By John Crump
AmmoLand Shooting Sports News is endorsing Anthony P. Colandro for the 2019 NRA Board Election.

“Anthony is a great friend of AmmoLand Shooting Sports News and has been fighting to save the second amendment behind enemy lines in NJ all his life. Anthony would be a great addition to the NRA BOD were we know he will always have NJ's back. NJ needs all the support it can get to fight back against the plague of Democrat lead gun control efforts in the state.” ~ Fredy Riehl, AmmoLand Editor-in-Chief.

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- Anthony P. Colandro, the host of “Gun For Hire Radio,” refers to himself as a “Capitalist Marksman.” He has spent most of his adult life exploring a passion for firearms and training through his range “Gun For Hire” located in New Jersey.

What is amazing about his journey through the firearms world is that Anthony didn't start shooting until he was 25. Through a friend that took him to the range, he shot his first gun. Like a bolt of lightning, the firearms bug hit him hard. Not only did he open his own firearms range, but he became one of the top instructors in the country.

Anthony has gone onto train 1000s of people in the safe use of a firearm. Not only is he an NRA certified instructor, but he is also an NRA Master Training Counselor. He is teaching the next generation of instructors to ensure future generations of Americans will be able to practice their rights to self-defense.

While teaching others to shoot is a passion for Anthony, his primary focus is safeguarding the Second Amendment from those who would infringe upon it. He is following a calling and running for the 2019 NRA's Board of Directors. He feels this is the best way for him to help secure our rights as an armed and free people.

I had a chance to speak with Anthony about the issues that are facing gun owners in an ever-increasing hostile environment.

John: Let me start out with the obvious question. What is your background?

Anthony: I started shooting in the 1980’s in New Jersey and in the early 90’s I became an NRA certified Firearms Instructor. I have been teaching and promoting the safe and positive aspects of firearms ownership since then non stop.

John: Why do you want to be on the NRA board?

Anthony: I have already sat on three NRA committees so I have an understanding of how things work and I feel my skills and experience of owning one of the largest and busiest ranges in New Jersey can add some expertise.

John: What is the biggest change you want to bring to the NRA board?

Anthony: I would like to see more support and education to commercial ranges and I would really like to start an urban initiative program where we have a task force reach out into that untapped area for membership and support.

John: What do you see as the biggest threat to our Second Amendment rights?

Anthony: Progressivism is like a forest fire. It destroys everything in its path. We have to get back to conservative values and stop the spread of cloaked socialism.

John: How can the NRA be more effective in educating the public on our Constitutional rights?

Anthony: Owning a range and teaching in New Jersey only fourteen miles from NYC, I have been gifted the opportunity to teach and educate people from all walks of life. I have learned from their perspective what their wants and needs are, and I want to be their voice.

John: What is your opinion on banning of bump stocks?

Anthony: Honestly, I have always thought of them as a novelty item. I am not a fan due to the inaccuracy, but I do believe they should not be banned. Our rights are slowly being taken away like slicing a salami one thin slice at a time!

John: People from New Jersey have seen their gun rights infringed upon. What do you think the chances of those Draconian laws spreading to states that have a record for being more firearms friendly?

Anthony: I always say “what happens in New Jersey, doesn’t stay in New Jersey” we are one of the battleground States, and we need to fight, and the freer States must support us! Look at the Lautenberg Act. That started in New Jersey and then became federal law. The other pro-gun States look down upon us but they really need to support our  resident gun owners.

John: What is the best way to push back against “Astroturf” groups such as March For Our Lives?

Anthony: We need more moms, kids, and people of color representing our cause. I allow the Second Amendment Women, and the 2A4E to use my facility to run their outreach events. We need to as I say, “each one reaches one” to break that old white guy gun owner narrative. The other side is very good at what they do and we need to copy their playbook.

John: You host “Gun For Hire Radio.” Tell us a little about your show?

Anthony: My podcast Gun For Hire Radio, the voice of one million New Jersey gunners broadcasting behind the Second Amendment iron curtain, was started eight years ago as a voice of the people of New Jersey to communicate and unify our plight. Every week we cover current crime topics, legislative issues, and general education for the 2A community. It has been very, very popular and has helped amplify our voice in New Jersey.

John: Through your training facility, you have trained 1000s of people. Why is the act of training people in firearms use important to you?

Anthony: After the Boy Scouts of America, Gun For Hire is the largest purchaser of NRA training materials. We have trained over 15,000 students since 1992 in NRA classes. I feel this is the great starting point to get people into the shooting culture and has received a nationally recognized certificate of completion. This is what I call cultivating the masses. Once someone enters my facility and sees how family friendly and clean the facility is and then they experience excellent training we now have broken the “gun” culture narrative and they can start their path (with our help) to be a part of the 2A battle.
