Republican Party of Texas Fires Pro-Gun Activist

U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)-  Choice of personnel indicate your policy. You are who you hire..and fire. The Republican Party of Texas terminated their director of operations, Rachel Malone. Ms Malone was a grassroots activist before she was hired by the Republican Party of Texas. She was a passionate second-amendment supporter. She thought the existing gun lobbying groups in Texas fell short in their promised results. Malone started  her own, one-person gun rights lobbying organization. She monitored bills and asked others to speak up when she testified. She learned how the Texas Senate conducts business and passes legislation. She also learned how the Texas Republican Party sets the party’s agenda. Therein lies the problem.

In theory, local caucuses meet to establish an agenda and nominate  to state conventions. This was supposed to be the voice of the people talking to their future elected officials. In fact, real grass-roots activism challenges the powerful status quo. Democracy frightens the-powers-that-be.

Malone was originally speaking to pro-gun and conservative groups across the state. She explained how the political system was supposed to work. She explained how a politically active group could get things done.

That is when the State Republican party noticed her. When a county chairman was elected to head the republican state organization, he pulled Rachel along. Frankly, it was easier to have her inside their tent than generating activism outside. That was the thinking for a year.

It didn’t work out that way in practice. Rachel Malone showed conservative republicans how to press the Party’s grassroots-driven agenda from the ground up. What happens when the Party’s stated principles differ from the personal priorities of elected officials? That is when the phone calls start.

Our elected officials will follow the agenda set by the citizens..at least in theory. In practice, these entrenched officials follow their self-interests. They want to promote legislation that matches their personal beliefs and the interests of their large donors.

It all comes down to money and power. These elected officials spoke and Texas state party officials listened. They wanted to keep their job after all. Rachel Malone was terminated the next day.

Malone wasn’t released because she was ineffective or abrasive. She was fired because democracy is inconvenient for elected officials.

That is a frequent problem. Rachel generated widespread excitement. The Texas Republican Party had an energetic base of activists and volunteers. They asked the system to follow its own rules and take guidance from the citizens. So much for theory.

I’ve written my own elected officials and said something similar. Politicians ask us for money. I write back and remind them of what they said when they ran for office. I’ll donate again when they live up to their own words. That frightens some politicians..at least in Texas. And, it should. For now my wallet is closed..at least to them..but I remain an activist.

If I were placing bets, I’d bet on Malone remaining an activist as well. Contact her at http://www.texasfirearmsfreedom.com/

sounds to me like they have unleashed an attack dog who knows precisely where to inflict the most pain.

they’d have been better off keeping her in and giving her so much work she couldn’t do any activism.

now she’s loose. and they will regret it.

We’re seeing the same problem here in Ohio with RINOs in the Statehouse supporting a new Kasich-promoted gun control bill. In the process, they’re working to “table” a legitimate pro-2nd Amendment bill, despite having overwhelming pluraluties in both houses and a so-called Republican in the Governor’s office. As noted by another commenter, be careful who you vote for and make sure it’s NOT a wolf-like RINO in sheepdog clothing!

Now that is freakin funny. I don’t remember reading anything about the NRA in this article. It’s not about the NRA, it’s about RINOs that vote for their big money donors. IOW,,,corrupt politicians doing the Texas two step.

If you advocate for eliminating a right that our forefathers foresaw as necessary to protecting our freedom, you have proven yourself as anti-American. Feel free to leave and move to a country with freedoms that are granted by the all powerful government.

Austin is the capital of Texas and is the liberal mecca of the state and an embarrassment to any decent human being. Had Rachel claimed to be a lesbian, no one in Austin would have messed with her and probably she would have been promoted.

@OV, I have a barbecue in the planning and logistics stage. We have a chance to break the grip of the corrupt parties. Maybe, someday, we will get around to banning political parties. Maybe, I’ll start a new one, called the Barbecue Party!

I met Rachel at an event, and was impressed with her drive and conviction. If she says that Abbot and team are turning against us,… then we need to look to other leaders for support and leadership. The RPT gets no more of my support until they start paying attention to we the people. This is not about those from out of state that are turning against the people this is our well established republican party leaders and fellow Texans. Rachel is informing us of what is really going on. Let’s support her in any and every way we can!… Read more »

Over the past few years I have come to see demoRATS as really communists based on their agendas, and laws they have passed. Side-to-side comparisons between the 2’s agendas leaves one no doubt they are one and the same. Having said that, what has prevented democrats/liberals/progressives/communists from taking office as republicans? Nothing. How many so-called republicans are nothing more than wolves in sheep’s clothing? How many of the GOP are in reality communists/democrats? Look at their voting records. Look at how little they have done for the American people since winning both houses and presidency. They have had an opportunity… Read more »

The people of Texas need to identify the RINO’s in their government and remove them
before it turns “Blue”. Be careful who you vote for.

Bob K – at least one of the rinos (they do NOT deserve capitals) self-identified and decided not to run again – that would be the former house speaker Joe Straus – he was the single biggest obstacle to improving Texas gun (and knife for that matter) laws. Good riddance.

If this is true, we need to hold the officials accountable! Unfortunately, the article was full of conclusions, but few facts, like what officials, and what was said to what party officials!

I’ve known Rachel personally for a number of years. She worked hard to organize gun owners at the grass roots level in Texas. That is what got her hired by the TxGOP because she was good at it. What got her fired is that she publicly criticized Gov. Greg Abbott’s new “school safety” program that was long on gun control. Here is what she wrote when she announced her dismissal: “It’s been an adventure-filled year working for the Republican Party of Texas. Unfortunately, it’s come to an end as suddenly as it began. Yesterday I arrived at work to learn… Read more »

There you go Texas, your first steps towards becoming California. You’ve heard about all of the scum pouring out of Cali looking for that better place? This is them at work on destroying your state now. Liberals, leftists more, are a virus. Look up the definition and behavior of a virus and tell me they do not fit the textbook definition. Human beings naturally want to populate an area and establish an equilibrium with their new environment but left its move in and destroy and consume everything.
