Gun Owners of America Statement on Pres. Trump’s Nomination of Kavanaugh to SCOTUS

If Republicans blow this opportunity, it is unlikely to come again. For the Supreme Court has seemed within Republican grasp before, only to have it slip away because of presidential errors.
Gun Owners of America Statement on Pres. Trump’s Nomination of Kavanaugh to SCOTUS

Springfield, VA – -(Ammoland.com)- Erich Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America (GOA), issued the following statement on Pres. Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:

“Gun Owners of America is optimistic that Judge Brett Kavanaugh will be a huge improvement over the retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on many constitutional issues, including the Second Amendment.

“Initial reports suggest that Judge Kavanaugh deeply respects the Second Amendment, even though he was not the strongest of the finalists.

“Nevertheless, Judge Kavanaugh filed a pro-gun dissent in Heller II, arguing that Washington, DC’s ban on semi-automatic firearms was arbitrary and unlawful.

“In fact, his dissent was so well argued that GOA’s subsequent legal briefs have repeatedly held up his dissent as the model to follow.

“In another case, Kavanaugh correctly interpreted the Firearm Owners Protection Act to find that a defendant could not be sentenced to 30 years in prison for use of a fully-automatic firearm if he was unaware that the gun fired automatically.

“Kavanaugh also supported the prevailing opinion in the Citizens United case, which affirmed GOA’s voice in the political arena.

“GOA hopes that the Senate will confirm Kavanaugh — and that the Supreme Court will take up more Second Amendment cases, thus repealing the onerous and unconstitutional restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms that exist throughout the country.”

Gun Owners of AmericaErich Pratt, or another GOA spokesman, is available for interviews. Gun Owners of America is a nonprofit lobbying organization dedicated to protecting the right to keep and bear arms without compromise. GOA represents over 1.5 million members and activists. This pick was probably okay, but believe there were two better choices. This guy is more establishment and they pressured Trump to go that way. I think Trump would have preferred to pick Barret and so do I.

GOA says, ” “Initial reports suggest that Judge Kavanaugh deeply respects the Second Amendment, even though he was not the strongest of the finalists.” Well, which one of the candidates was the strongest Second Amendment supporter, GOA?
That is the Judge that I am looking for. Stop playing hide the ball!

No Bull

Gee Wild Bill, It doesn’t really matter who was stronger if they weren’t nominated by Mr. Trump. If you are that intereared you could do a little research on the other candidates and form your own opinion. Accusing GOA of “playing hide the ball” is just plain silly. Makes you sound a lot like (dare I say it?) a whiny little liberal.

Wild Bill

@NB, Ahh, I see that my writing was not clear. Who are the strongest Second Amendment supporters does matter because Kavanaugh might, possibly, not be confirmed, and Trump would have to nominate again. Or, possibly, Trump might get to replace Granny Ginzberg. So I would like to know who are the stronger Second Amendment Civil Rights supporters on Trump’s S. Ct. candidate list so I can mention those people to him, now and for the future. Kavanaugh in his DC Circuit Heller descent, in dicta, mentioned that fully automatic weapons (machine guns) are traditionally banned in America and he was… Read more »

As we point out in our alert today, we believe Judge Thomas Hardiman to have been the strongest 2A candidate, though Kavanaugh also came down in support as well in his decisions.

Wild Bill

@John Dunlap Velleco, Thank you for your response, here. I understand that your time is at a premium. Very thoughtful thank you.

Wild Bill.
i checked their records and ESPECIALLY on the 2ND AMENDMENT.
the two best i found was Senator Mike Lee of Utah, and Judge Don Willett from Texas.
the rest would pass i feel but the two i mentioned were MY FAVORITES.

Wild Bill

@JH, Good intel. Thank you. I read Mike Lee’s book “Our Lost Constitution”. Every one of the cases that Lee points our as a wrong turning point in the history of American law was scrupulously avoided in law school.

It would be nice if the Supreme Court Judges would take up the case of Maryland’s unconstitutional “may issue” carry permit where it is nigh on to IMPOSSIBLE to obtain a carry permit by a LEGAL LAW ABIDING AMERICAN.

Gregory Romeu

THAT is a case that Marylanders need to mount and follow through to the Supreme Court only when all other avenues have been exhausted. So, clear your wanna-so and gotta-so islanders and get it started!
