California Anti Gun-Show Bill SB 221 Vetoed by Governor Brown

California – -(AmmoLand.com)- Two steps forward and one step back Friday, September 28th, 2018, as decisions are announced from Governor Brown’s office. It seems that the Second Amendment community can’t catch a break without paying a price in return.

The two anti-2A bills were vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown Friday, September 28, SB 221 and SB 1177. SB 221(Weiner), aimed to put an end to the gun show in Daly City, eliminating the only gun show in the San Francisco area and was part of a wider movement to shut down gun shows throughout the state.

In Brown’s veto letter, he cites the local board of directors and community as the authority to make decisions on such matters.

This is welcomed news to California Rifle & Pistol Association, as SB 221 would have set a precedent for gun shows throughout the state. We have already been fighting for the existence of gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Orange County Fairgrounds and Ventura Fairgrounds; SB 221 would have just aided the opposition in their malicious efforts.

SB 1177 (Portantino, D), was a repeat of a similar bill from the last legislative session. Despite having been vetoed by Governor Brown twice before, Senator Portantino attempted to resurrect the one long-gun a month bill restricting long gun sales for Californians. For SB 1177, Brown’s veto letter refers to last session’s similar bill which he had vetoed before and that his views had not changed. CRPA staff has predicted this outcome since the bill’s introduction; Portantino just can’t seem to get the idea of restricting Second Amendment rights out of his head.

Senator Portantino can claim one win today with the passing of SB 1100. Despite the voracious efforts of CRPA staff, members and allies, long guns may not be sold to California adults under the age of 21. This fight, however, will not end with this signing. CRPA will be at the helm, fighting for the rights of California adults’ right to purchase long-guns.

Well, once the New(som) governor takes over Portantino won’t have any problem getting any and all anti-gun lunacy passed.

What a joke. (serious actually) No long guns for under 21. If young adults are too dumb or too irresponsible until age 21, then how can we expect them to serve and protect? Raise the draft to 21. Law enforcement included.

Larry Griffith

Maybe we shouldn’t let them vote either until they’re 21.

Don

That might not be a very bad idea. At 18 you really haven’t experienced enough in life to truly known or
understand what’s going on in the world around you. . . . I’m talking about “Today’s” 18 year old’s.

Clark Kent

Yup, especially those 18 year old men and women who today serve in the armed forces and place their lives at risk for all of us. Who would want THEM voting? Idiot.

Wild Bill

@"MCCLOUD!" Kent, as one that has been one of those 18 year (+) old service people, up to and including commanding hundreds of 18 (+) year old service people, I know that the responsible attitude and personal discipline does not come naturally. It must be taught. Unfortunately only one half of one percent of our 18 (+) year olds go into the military services. That leaves 99.5 percent of the 18(+) year old population that have not learned responsibility and personal discipline. Amending the Constitution to give 18 year olds the vote was not a good idea. It was a… Read more »

The Democrats will never go for this, they prey on the innocent, uninformed and inexperienced to fuel their fantasies.

Hate to burst your bubble, but you can’t become a police officer until you are 21 years old.
