SIG SAUER Introduces SPEC1 Premium Firearm Care System

Newington, N.H.-( SIG SAUER is pleased to introduce SPEC1, a premium firearm care system, specially formulated for SIG SAUER by SLIP2000. SPEC1 is a non-toxic, non-hazardous, pure synthetic based lubricant with no Teflon™, silicones, or petroleum distillates.

“This partnership between SIG SAUER and SLIP2000 that has resulted in SPEC1 is a win for our consumers. For years SLIP2000 has been the lubricant of choice amongst our SIG SAUER Academy instructors and military units in the U.S. and around the world, because of the quality and performance of the product,” began Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “It’s important to us that our consumers have easy access to the same products used by our instructors, and can have complete confidence in the lubricants and cleaners they are using on their firearms because it has earned the SIG SAUER name. The introduction of SPEC1 accomplishes all of these objectives to the benefit of our end user.”

The complete SPEC1 Premium Firearm Care System includes: synthetic gun lubricant, light gun grease, bore solvent, and gun degreaser. SPEC1 is formulated to reduce heat and wear, and to keep firearms running smoother and lasting longer. SPEC1 will not attract dust, dirt and sand, or feel sticky and tacky like most petroleum-based products on the market today. This synthetic lubricant will not dry up, freeze in cold temperatures, or allow carbon, copper, and plastic wad fouling to stick in the barrels or to gun parts. This non-toxic, non-hazardous formula is completely safe for the end user during application, cleaning, and firing.

“SLIP2000 is honored to be working with SIG SAUER, one of the world’s best firearms companies, to introduce SPEC1. We are also extremely proud that our lubricants earned the favor of the elite SIG SAUER Academy instructors through rigorous use and testing,” began Greg Conner, President, SLIP 2000 / SPS Marketing. “This partnership means that SPEC1 lubricant is now the official lubricant of the SIG SAUER Academy, and that all SIG SAUER firearms will be manufactured with the SPEC1 lubricant, and a product sample will ship with every SIG SAUER firearm. To earn the endorsement of SIG SAUER, and know they want to put their name on our lubricants and cleaners, is very exciting for our brand.”

    1. I did an experiment with tungsten disulphide .0005 micron powder. I coated the slide rails of the slide and frame of my 1911, and the barrel due to tungsten being a great insulator and awesome load tolerant property.
Very nervously I took the pistol to the range and 300 handloads I have been working with for the last 8 years. The barrel is a barely broken in 5″ threaded Jarvis that’s dead on at seven yards to.
The crono showed a 25ish fps gain on the 185 grain loads and 13ish gain fps on the 230. The barrel has a bluish hue inside after copper foul removal that was able to be cleaned with my typical Windex solutions. The slide operated fine with a lot of mag dumps A Kimber pro tac tends to have at least one or two Hang ups with HP loads and FP’s which is why I changed the barrel and worked the barrel ramp and frame fit a little closer and closed the gap a hair. Since I have been to the range and put down another 500 roumds without Hang ups and a super smooth operation.

This particular dry lube of 100% tungsten disulphide has worked great for me, and it did take a lot of surface prep which was fine by me because Kimber seems to have a finish that peels off after a few trips.
I repeated this treatment in my Armalite home build (pain in the ass). Ordered a good BCG complete. Stripped the finish from the sleds and used a polishing compound for the bolt chamber which was not chromed. It already has a McFarland gas key and upgraded bolt from Matrix Arms so kudos to them for the low cost well engineered product. Coated the whole thing i ln my media tumbler for 2 hours. Now the receiver all I did was lightly sanded where the carrier sleds sit and the disuphide stuck to the Cerekote. I also cleaned the barrel and made a paste with the TD and worked it in with a .22 cal bronze brush wrapped with old tee shirt. Barrel was previously cleaned and has 100 rounds logged. I checked headspace and went to the range. 300 rounds of 168 grain handloads didn’t have any gains in FPS but the action was real smooth and the BCG cleaned easy and didn’t have any issues. I do not mag dump my AR’s bacsuse barrels are expensive.

I was uncomfortable with no lube on my sleds so I made a wheel bearing grease infused with the disulphide and it’s like wet ice on wet ice when slightly diluted with Motor oil. Grease on sled and wet bolt with carbon solvent and oil.
This stuff will last for years to where those $16 an oz would not last a few months with the amount of trips I make.
Take it with a grain of salt.

    2. I understand we all use what we, as individuals, find works. For me that is Mobil 1 10W30 synthetic at about $8.00 per qt. vs $16.99 for 4oz of this product. Like this product it does not freeze up, it works great in full auto guns and I’ve been using it for decades. I admit that you can’t eat it or cook with it but with the money I save I can go to McDonald’s.
