That is not a full power 10mm loading. Full power 200 gr 10mm should be around 1300 fps. They left a lot on the table, most likely due to using the same projectile as the .40 S&W loadings.
So close to being what I wanted. Dang. I like the 175 silvertips, loaded to full house. Amazingly flat shooting and accurate as all get out (I usually am crowding 1500 f/s with my loads).
Whimp load, Not full power
Try looking into 45 Super. Cases come from Star Line. 185g @ 1278 f p s and 200g @ 1189 f p s.– this is from a commander barrel! The only gun mod to use this caliber is recoil and firing pin springs. This is a 44mag. medium load equal. Good for deer and varmints (urban varmints) If you own a single stack w/8 rounds or a double stack w/14 rounds, it is worth having 44 mag. medium load power! My top energy load for my 1911 45ACP with a ramped Clark barrel is a 185gr JHP with a muzzle velocity of 1495 fps. That is 918 ftlbs of energy. Twenty six pound recoil spring, buffer, and square bottom firing pin retainer are the only things non-stock about the gun. I use R-P cases and a proprietary powder. 200 grains traveling @ 1130 FPS, is moving pretty fast for a fat boy. I’d like to see the energy.
You can figure ft/lb energy of any load thusly: Velocity squared (1130X1130=1276900) times bullet weight divided by 100 (200/100=2) 1276900X2=2553800 then divide by constant 4500. 2553800/4500=567.5 ft/lb energy at the muzzle.
Just square the velocity Times bullett weight and divide by 450,400. = fpe
A .40 S&W load in a 10mm case?
A 200 grain .40 S&W will never make 1130 fps without some potential catastrophic results.
The 40 S&W was made because most people cannot stand the recoil of 10mm, I love mine.
