Warning Take Action Call Protest
Contact the NRA About NOT Supporting Any Red Flag Laws

Virginia – -(AmmoLand.com)- The NRA has taken a public position supporting Red Flag laws. This happened last year. To be fair, the NRA did want certain key things in those laws:

  • 1) A strong due process requirement and
  • 2) A requirement that the subject of the Red Flag law get treatment

and they should have added:

  • 3) That anyone lying to get someone “Red Flagged” would suffer **severe** legal consequences

Here's the problem and why we need to get the NRA to walk away from Red Flag laws: NONE of the Red Flag bills in Congress, or anywhere else, have any of those protections! Red Flag laws focus on an inanimate object (firearms) and NOT the individual who may be the real danger to himself and/or others.

And how would due process be done BEFORE the guns are confiscated? Why just guns? What about all the other weapons that a person has access to – from poisons to kitchen knives to automobiles?

Since none of the bills have what the NRA wants, making them nothing more than gun confiscation disguised as “public safety,” there is NO REASON for the NRA to remain silent.

The NRA needs to stand up and strongly OPPOSE all Red Flag bills, in Congress or elsewhere, and they need to do so ASAP!

NOTE: We are NOT calling for anyone to drop their NRA membership over this, but the NRA needs to hear from us and they need to speak out against Red Flag laws loudly and clearly.

VIDEO OF NRA's POSITION ON RED FLAG LAWS

Here's the video where NRA's Chris Cox talks about support for Red Flag laws:

ACTION ITEM

  • 1) Click here to get the NRA comment form:

https://www.nraila.org/contact-nra-ila/

  • 2) Fill in your name, etc. Be sure to include your NRA member number if you are an NRA member.
  • 3) Suggested subject: Oppose all Red Flag laws
  • 4) Suggested message:

As an NRA member, I urge the NRA to strongly oppose all Red Flag laws in Congress or state legislatures!

The Red Flag bills in Congress, including S. 7, do NOT have the protections the NRA said they wanted in such a bill: strong due process and a requirement for help or treatment for the individual. Plus, these bills focus only on guns. What about all the other dangerous things that a person has access to, such as poisons, knives, automobiles, etc.?

Because of the lack of those protections, Red Flag laws are nothing but gun confiscation schemes disguised as “public safety” and the NRA needs to come out STRONGLY IN OPPOSITION to ALL Red Flag bills.

Let me know what the NRA is planning to do about Red Flag laws, as I see them as a serious and very real threat to our liberty.

IMOA, People shouldn’t give up on the NRA because anti-gunners hope to separate us to achieve their anti-gun goals. First contact the NRA and let them know we are not pleased with their current support of bump stocks bans or any gun control initiative. Let them know they need to be asking every news outlet for a chance to be heard. Bring facts to the table and it’ll expose the true anti-gun agenda. Counter the B.S. anti-gunners spew targeting non-gun owners and change a persons mind about guns.

Red flag laws are the nose under the tent that the left is looking for to begin the confiscation of guns from law abiding citizens. There are plenty of laws already on the books to identify those who are dangerous and take action to remove the threat. The problem in, those who see the questionable behavior don’t take action and say or do something. The red flag law will do nothing but give the left an excuse to take away firearms from you and me.

RED FLAG LAWS are a disgrace to America. They are performed on the “Say-So” of a SINGLE PHONE caller, WITHOUT ANY DUE PROCESS, CONFORMATION or LEGAL NOTICE to the individual. In the middle of the night, so the police have “the element of surprise”. IN THE FUTURE YOU CAN EXPECT PEOPLE TO REPORT SOMEONE AS A DANGEROUS PERSON, BECAUSE: THEIR, BLACK OR A REPUBLICAN, OR HAD A DISAGREEMENT WITH A NEIGHBOR, ETC. All gun owners are going to answer any knock at the door or break-in of their door in the middle of the night WITH A LOADED GUN. That’s… Read more »

What THE HELL is Wrong with YOU NRA! CHRIS COX! I WILL NOT SUPPORT THE RED FLAGS LAWS! THEY ARE DANGEROUS! THEY STRIP DUE PROCESS AND OPEN THE DOOR FOR THE LEFT TO EXPLOIT THE REG FLAG LAWS, AND THE LEFT WILL IN EVERY WAY UNTIL THEY GET OUR GUNS!! SO FOOLISH AND UNWISE TO GIVE THE LEFT A TOW HOLD! I JUST CANT BELIEVE HOW STUPID YOU ARE TO GO ALONG WITH THIS! GROW A SET OF BALLS AND STAND ON THE CONSTITUTION, AND STOP BEING A POLITICAL PUPPET FOR MONEY AND MAYBE WE CAN SAVE OUR COUNTRY! NO MORE ACCEPTANCE NOR DISCUSSION OF ANTI GUN LEGISLATION OF ANY TYPE, KIND OR STYLE.
NO MORE NOT EVEN ONE

ATTENTION !: OUR 2ND A RIGHTS ARE NOT UP FOR GRABS NOR FOR DISCUSSION.
WE THE PEOPLE GET TO KEEP ALL OF OUR 2ND A RIGHTS AS STATED IN THE 2ND AMENDMENT.

“THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”, MEANS JUST THAT.

Any attempt to consfiscate weapons by LEO or the courts should be resisted with all measures. If that includes the death of LEO or owners -so be it. The only way ive ever found to stop a bullys behaviour is wth violence, so it DOES WORK so if your afraid to stick your neck out there will be a boot on it. I didnt get the 2nd from the NRA or LEO and it was protected long before they came on the scene

Once again, the NRA under it’s current dictatorial, non-elected, administration fails to protect not only the 2nd Amendment, but the 4th Amendment as well. This is just one reason why I will not endorse, re-up, support or promote the NRA as long as the current rich profiteering overlords of the NRA continue to control the organization and fail to support the 2nd Amendment, and compromise away our rights.

The directors and board if the NRA ARE elected every year, but you must be a Life Member or higher to vote. A Life membership is not that expensive and may be paid in monthly installments at times.
Like it or not, the NRA us the world’s largest and most powerful lobby for your gun rights. I suggest that, rather than quitting, you increase your membership to Life level and start making changes from WITHIN to make it as it was when Charleton Heston was our President.

Tennyson. I am an Endowment Member that believes the NRA BOD is beyond repair. I do not believe its in the best interest for members to pay more just to vote. Voting and giving money is not required to express our dissatisfactions. Change is needed now from within or do without members and their money. Yes, the NRA is powerful lobby that now seems has turned away from us.

YES, The NRA is “the largest and most powerful lobby” on gun issues — but the NRA is not, and never has been, a pro-RKBA organization. The NRA position has NOT CHANGED since the president of the NRA testified before congress that he didn’t carry and didn’t think anyone should be allowed to carry without strong restrictions AND a federal license. Can this really be the organization we want “protecting” our rights?? This is the organization that first proposed the Bump Stock Ban This is the organization that after failing to get a bump stock ban through congress, went directly… Read more »

Understanding the general purpose of the red flag laws to assist in preventing a loose dangerous person from using a fire arm is a good thing. BUT!!!!,,,,if you look at this very closely it seems its a page right out of Hitler’s Mind Khoff. If history reminds itself this is exactly the same type actions taken in the 30’s and 40’s under Hitler with neighbor reporting neighbor firt being Jews and second having ANYTHING against the regime. These type laws are what we fight against everyday in this country. These type laws will be made UNCONSTITUTIONAL…

Actually so-called Red Flag laws are useless and completely unnecessary — every state already has some form of Mental Inquest Law, which can be used to resolve the issue of anyone who is a danger to themselves or others.

Making another law is not the answer when they don’t enforce the laws already on the books.

The NRA is nothing but a bunch of Political Hacks. They have a Long history with colluding with the Anti-Gun people. Gun Owners have to wake up to the BS of the NRA! Sadly gun owners are like the Demoncrats who think it’s the same party as when JFK was in office, it is not. The same with the people who think the NRA is the same NRA of the 20’s and 30’s, It Is Not!!!!! Join the Gun Owners of America, who actually fights for gun owners!

Dave C. Unintelligent? That is what politicians and the BOD of the NRA consider us. Well, one does not have to be smart to learn that they have been betrayed.

TomC

Dave, you miss the point. The NRA is not — never has been — and never will be — a pro-RKBA organization.

The idea that somehow giving an anti-RKBA organization more money will magically change it’s position is ridiculous. You might as well recommend that we join and support Bloomberg or the Marching Mothers — we’d have more chance of changing their positions, and they have a much shorter history of supporting anti-RKBA legislation.

Red Flag “laws” are all unconstitutional in that they VIOLATE the Constitution’s Bill of Rights. The Revelator posted this several weeks ago listing every bit of violation. 2nd Amendment – the right to bear arms shall not be infringed” 4th Amendment – “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated; and no Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause, SUPPORTED by OATH or affirmation, and particularly describing THE PLACE to be searched and the persons or things seized” 5th Amendment – “…to be a… Read more »

Herb, you are wrong about the NRA flip-flopping. The NRA has never changed its position on the right to keep and bear arms. During congressional NFA hearings in 1934, NRA president, Karl Frederick, testified “I have never believed in the general practice of carrying weapons. I seldom carry one. … I do not believe in the general promiscuous toting of guns. I think it should be sharply restricted and only under licenses.” The NRA position is still the same today. They supported the National Firearms Act in 1934, supported the Federal Firearms Act in 1938, supported the Gun Control Act… Read more »

Any support for these types of laws needs to be opposed. Yes, we need mental health evaluations for some, but just to take a person’s personal property based on what might be a personal grudge against someone is ridiculous. We all know how many government officials do their best to find a way around regulations that have “good intentions “.

I am doing just the opposite and writing to the NRA in support of ERPOs! This issue has my support, along with many others such as: President Donald J. Trump, Marco Rubio, and many other respectful government officials from both parties. It is important to note that our up and coming young voters who have been out there on the streets, on the weekends demanding change such as support of ERPOs. It is important to note that ALL of us support our right to bear arms! The majority that wants you to talk to you, to listen to what we… Read more »

We have shown you the Constitution and Bill of Rights again and again, they have been in place for over 200 years, served our country’s citizens well, and your minorities still wish to change them. Many countries constitutions have been based on ours except they took out the parts they didn’t like, almost identical to your suggestions, and the countries eventually failed. The people on the street can differentiate between the real deal and a scam.

The NRA’s position on emergency risk protection orders (ERPOs) has recently been mischaracterized by some who haven’t taken the time to understand our position, including the anti-gun mainstream media and organizations that purport to support the Second Amendment. @ Thomas You must have been asleep when Cox first mentioned that the NRA was supporting the red flag law. It makes no difference they have thrown us under the bus more than they have defended us. Maybe the elites should forgo some of their over the top salaries and use some of that money for what they said they would do, defend our 2A rights. The NRA has gone social justice on us and have moved beyond the purpose they collect all the yearly dues for. It is interesting they come back with this now, hoping the worse has… Read more »
