A Nation at War With Itself

Civil Unrest
The future does not bode well for a country that is so deeply divided.

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- President Donald Trump has decided to cease cooperating with what he sees, not incorrectly, as a Beltway conspiracy that is out to destroy him.

“We're fighting all the subpoenas,” Trump said Wednesday. “These aren't, like, impartial people. The Democrats are out to win in 2020.”

Thus the Treasury Department just breezed by a deadline from the House Ways and Means Committee to deliver Trump's tax returns.

Thus the White House will invoke executive privilege to deny the House Judiciary Committee access to ex-White House counsel Don McGahn, who spent 30 hours being interrogated by Robert Mueller's team.

Thus the Justice Department is withholding from the Oversight Committee subpoenaed documents dealing with the decision to include a question on the 2020 Census about citizenship status.

Across the capital, the barricades are going up figuratively as they did physically in the 1960s and '70s. Once more, it's us against them.

Cognizant of the new reality, Trump seems to be saying:

These House investigations constitute a massive political assault, in collusion with a hostile media, to destroy my presidency.

We do not intend to cooperate in our own destruction. We are not going to play our assigned role in this scripted farce. We will resist their subpoenas all the way to November 2020. Let the people then decide the fate and future of the Trump presidency — and that of Nancy Pelosi's House.

In response to Trump's resort to massive resistance, Rep. Gerald Connolly said: “A respect for the limits of your branch of government, a respect for the role of other branches of government, is sort of the oil that makes the machinery work. … Absent that this breaks down. And I think we're definitely seeing that.”

Connolly is not wrong. But the requisite mutual respect between the Democratic House and the Republican White House simply does not exist. It broke down a long time ago.

The campaign of 2020 is on. And the stakes are huge. Not only are the first and second branches of government in play, so, too, is the third, the Supreme Court. Many Democrats, refusing to accept the success of the 50-year conservative long march to capture the court, are determined to pack an expanded court with liberal justices to overturn the conservatives' victory.

With Republicans having won two presidential elections in 20 years, with fewer popular votes, Democrats are also resolved to rewrite the Constitution and abolish the Electoral College.

Not only ex-convicts but felons in prison must now be allowed to vote, says Bernie Sanders, even if that means the Boston Marathon bomber.

Under the Sanders reform, if someone murders you, he is still entitled to an absentee ballot. The right to vote is apparently more sacred than the right to life. Truly, this is the divination of democracy.

Trump's defiance of House subpoenas will fire up his base, which sees the world as he does and has never cottoned to what President Gerald Ford cherished as “the politics of compromise and consensus.”

Whatever may be said about the “deplorables,” they are not obtuse. They do not believe that people who call them racists, sexists, nativists and bigots are friends and merely colleagues of another party or persuasion.

Trump's defiance of subpoenas, however, will force the more moderate Democrats to join the militants in calling for hearings on impeachment in the House Judiciary Committee, which is where we are headed.

The media are already salivating over the possible removal of a president they have come to loathe more than their great nemeses of the 20th century — Joe McCarthy and Richard Nixon.

And the media will reward those who echo the call for impeachment.

This week, two more Democrats running for president, including Sen. Kamala Harris, came aboard. Soon, the House will capitulate to the clamor and the stampede will be on.

The problem for Democrats?

Attempting to overturn the election of 2016 and remove a president who has the passionate support of a third of the nation will sunder the Democratic Party base as surely as it will unite the Republicans.

Should impeachment succeed, a wound would be inflicted on the American body politic that would take years to heal.

In the longer run, however, the question being raised today goes to the long-term health of the republic itself.

America surely does not lack for diversity. Its diversity — racial, religious, cultural, ethnic, ideological, political — is visible and ever-growing. What is missing is the concomitant of unity.

Moreover, it is the more racially, culturally, religiously, ethnically, and ideologically diverse of the parties, the Democrats, that seems the more splintered than a Republican Party that is supposed to be afflicted with the incurable and fatal disease of Trumpism.

The questions raised by the present state of our politics, which might fairly be described as an American civil war without arms, are these: How does a nation so divided stand united in the world?

And if it cannot stand united in the world, how long does it remain a great nation?

    1. It would be nice to have an AMERICAN president instead of shills, demican and republirat alike, who work for and follow the order of a small pack filthy money grubbing foreigners. Taking their orders from over seas. The only “fight” (LOL!) in 2020 is WHICH faction of the enemy of the American people will finish off the freedoms of our country. Trump-a-dump has HIS ATF ready to attack half a million bump stock owners. Don’t tell me he is “for you” when he and those who run him push RED FLAG CONFISCATION LAWS. It would be nice if we had an American president but that is NOT going to happen and you all know it. You are being played. Buy more ammo. Organize as militia to be ready for what must come. Get a short wave radio to listen in where it counts. Ne Copula Nobiscum! Liberty1775

    2. Another comment from the woman of color perspective (identity politics). Definitely a different color of lens. And yet I’ve heard a lot of people say this past week or so: “Well, what about Obama? There’s no point just blaming Trump, Obama did similar things. A lot of these abuses began under Obama; a lot of these policies began under Obama.” PJ: Maybe not as much as it needs to yet. We’ll see when we have power.

PJ: I was one of the people that called Obama deporter-in-chief — that was when I was an activist — but I do think that President Obama — I miss him deeply – (PJ) Pramila Jayapal

      1. I just love it when these people write down a bunch of outlandish gabble, and refer to people that no one has ever heard of because they reveal that they are coming from some unconnected fantasy.

    3. Just saying the obvious aka racists just being racist.
“[People] do that all the time, especially women of color, they take our words
out of context because they’re afraid because we speak truth, we speak truth to power.
This is just pure racist act,” said Tlaib.

“We do that all the time, especially white men, we take their words out of context
because we’re afraid because they speak truth, they speak truth to power.
This is just pure racist act,” said “Tlaib”.

    4. Anybody who has been watching the erosion of our rights through the apathetic attempts of our failed legislature who are apparently satisfied with judicial legislation by the Supreme Court should be screaming enough. If in doubt about the liberal agenda and their hijacking of the Supreme Court through structured court cases, starting with Roe v. Wade, you should read D. Horowitz’s book Dark Agenda. You will be afraid to learn that the war is just about over.

    5. Posting this here, because it was rejected by email delivery, but makes me wonder how Ammoland actually operates, and if there is some editorial policy that needs to be understood.

Subject: Comments ALL subject to review??

Hello. I have noticed recently that all of my comments have been pre-posted with the italic phrase “subject to review…and approval”. Even the most innocuous posts seem to be subject to this.
Is this for ‘everyone’ who posts comments, or is it something “special”, specific to me? Because what I post is reasonably articulate, cogent, and respectful, and devoid of the name-calling, finger-pointing and very poorly written stuff that periodically shows up in the comments sections. I have spent a career, in fact two careers as a Marine and a federal officer, in public service. I know how to write, and how to do so respectfully, with purpose.

So, the answer to my question?

    6. When Trump was first elected, a lot of citizens were willing to at least listen to the media about how bad a president he was going to be and how corrupt he was. After Mueller spent 30 million and over two years and found basically nothing, the American people are figuring out that the media is like the little sheppard boy that cried “wolf!” too often. The media’s credibility is just totally shot to hell. Now Trump is refusing to cooperate with the people that tried to oust him and this time the American people are going to be giving Trump and not the media the benefit of the doubt.

    7. Ammoland commenters, can you say “hypocrisy”? Here you are slamming @Truth for his call to “REVOLUTION NOW!” as well you should, because he’s not only full of s*** but in all likelihood just trying to get a rise out of you more gullible types. But how many of you are guilty of the same when you call for civil war?? And guilty for all the same reasons as given in these comments in condemning @Truth. As far as I’m concerned, you civil war mongers can shove it up your a$$ and keep your hostile and paranoid ambitions and delusions to yourselves. Get real — anyone who starts shooting people in hopes of triggering a civil war, BE YOU CONSERVATIVE OR LIBERAL, will deservedly be quickly put down and/or snuffed out and America, even with all its faults, will go on without you!

      1. It’ll only happen if conservatives open fire. Liberals already fired the first shot with their violent protests. However, the LAW ABIDING citizens are forces to sit back and watch as ANTIFA Burns shit and beats people. Liberals have been inciting a civil war for a while. It’s only because of the Right’s diplomacy that it hasn’t happened. Don’t get it confused.

    8. The Communist (excuse me, I meant Democrat) Leadership has declared war on The Constitution and the Rights therein.
The majority of the American population need to work for a living, provide food and housing for their families and pay bills. They are not supported by the likes of Soros, Bloomberg, Steyrs and others who have used the capitalist system of the United States to make their fortunes, then used those fortunes in an attempt to destroy the very system that allowed them to become wealthy.
I do believe that when this whole process shakes out, the Democrats will be exposed for the globalist, socialist, one-world organization that they have become and will be repudiated by the voters who believe in Freedom, not Slavery.

    9. Trump began trying to encourage Congress to do its job when he agreed to hold off cancelling DACA to allow Congress to address the issue. It didn’t. There are all the rest of the illegal immigration issues Congressional Democrats ignore. Trump’s tax returns are more important to them. According to them, Mueller, Barr, and Rosenstein have become Republican stooges. Some Republicans act no better. We have a country that needs Congress to fulfill its constitutional duties to address real problems. And nothing would assist the primacy of law as much as impeaching a few federal district court judges.

      1. Pete, How do you spell RINO, it seems that some members forget the original charter of the party, but most forget their promises made during their campaigns. When will it be, that we citizens decide that we have had enough of the politicians in Washington, DC shredding the Constitution of the United States of America.

    10. I agree with most of this article. The part I disagree with is that this will force any moderate Demo to become more American and less Communist. That will help the President and help all of us. The Demo-Communists have drawn a line in the sand and with blood. They are all in. Are we???

      1. Ladies and Gentlemen…here is evidence of evil. This guy, “Truth”, starts his lies with his name (for how far he is from his moniker) and then continues to spread his corruption through the goodwill of this site. I guess the original model of the serpent’s “…you will not die…” is still a good example to follow if you are of that ilk. We conservatives are really the more accepting of the species as, if one goes on the “Everytown” site, no one is allowed to comment on their totalitarian drivel. Kinda makes one proud to be counted as a “deplorable”, don’t it?

      2. Rather than a reply that has any link to the subjects raised in the article or the comments made in reference to that article, you engage in sneer and smear. You waste your time, as I suspect I am in reply to your statement, but I hope that others might read this and realize your agenda.

    11. Right. America cannot endure as a house divided. Better to eliminate the enemy within. Stock up on ammo now, it will be needed later. Every commiecrat, jihadist and illegal alien must be removed.

        1. @ Truth I guess I will bite one time and get you paid by Bloomy or Soros. When you use the handle “truth” it is an oxymoron to your real posting. There isn’t a speck of truth in it. Just some pimply faced kid in his mommie’s basement with a sticky keyboard. based on the intellect of your posts that has to be what you are.

    12. @Truth; Sir, respectively, I do not think you know what you are asking for unless of course you are a foreign plant intent on fomenting such trouble. In the event you are serious, just remember if you were to get what you asked for multitudes of innocent people will die from a variety of causes, including starvation, lack of medical care, indiscriminate violence etc. Take a look at Syria and ask yourself; is this what you really want? Violence should ALWAYS be the last option not the first. We haven’t lost the election. We haven’t lost the protection of the constitution. We haven’t lost the protection of the Supreme Court. Maybe, maybe you know of what you ask but I seriously doubt it. If you do then there must be very few people in your life you care about. We are incredibly blessed and to throw that away before we have done everything in our power to keep our constitution intact sans violence is just unthinkable. What you are suggesting would inevitably destroy our society as we know it and while I would cherish seeing and hearing less of the Kardashians, not having access to clean water, working sewers, dentists, doctors, dependable food sources etc., not to mention what it would do to the education system our grand children are entitled to is deplorable. Armchair commandos can denigrate this post all you want but the truth is when a person suggests a violent overthrow of our government they aren’t thinking it very far through, it would be horrible.

      1. In answer to Mr. Miller. “ Those who would make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable!”
        John F. Kennedy
        SI VIS PACEM,

        1. Well said and I agree completely. Ghandi said, “I do believe that, where there is only a choice between cowardice and violence, I would advise violence…” We are at a point in our history where there are the Democrat and liberal destroyers, cowards who are too comfortable (sheep) and those who are willing to take a stand beyond lip service. When action is needed it needs to be applied swiftly and efficiently.

      2. The writer you reply to knows exactly what he’s advocating. The history of of misery, privation and death that accompany the socialist revolution and its aftermath, as well as the ultimate and inevitable failure of this “economic” system is well documented.

They seek the destruction of evil capitalism and the elimination of our national Constitution that (as described by obama “a charter of negative liberties”*) limits the power of the state and recognizes the rights of individuals as supreme, an antithesis to the socialist agenda where the state is supreme.

          1. @Toothless Truthless, Like the Fat Boy Institute would be interested in someone that runs around shouting, ” Revolution Now”. I can hear them laughing all the way from Dallas. I am AUS (ret.), and currently ranching in the Republic of Texas.
I answered your question, now you tell us Fearless Leader, what you have ever organized?

      1. Those of us who have known combat are slightly amused at your sort, those who would destroy our society to impose a dream of Utopia that has repeatedly failed every time it has been imposed on a population by promised “equality” or by force of arms.
You exemplify the type who is more than willing to let others fight your battles and serve as canon fodder while you suffer neither hunger, thirst, heat or cold, or the risk of violent death.
Go, live the dream in one of your “worker’s paradise” countries for a year, live the life of those who “enjoy” statist control of every aspect of life rather than blindly follow the indoctrination of academia.

        1. Or, as one co-worker once told our ridiculously stupid supervisor, “Get the f**k back into your ivory tower and leave us working stiffs alone!
          Kudos to “Animal”

          Phil in TX

        2. I’ll ride with Huapakechi on this. Maybe the wisdom comes from our time in harness, dealing with death as assigned, to know, recognize and understand both courage and cowardice. Or a continued adherence to that Oath we took. Much of one is on display in this nation, not nearly enough of the other.
