Will We Protect Our Children in School?

States that Allow Armed School Staff

U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)-  In the long run, we get the results we plan for. We wear a seatbelt when we drive because we won’t have time to put the seatbelt on the second before an accident. We have insurance when we drive so we can financially and medically recover if someone runs into us. Saying that bad things shouldn’t happen isn’t a workable plan. That is why I’m angry at people who say we shouldn’t protect our kids at school. For the last twenty years we’ve seen mad men murdering our children because the crazy person wanted to get their name in the news. Why has there been even a single mass murder in a church or school after the murders in Columbine two decades ago? Let’s ask the uncomfortable questions while we have time. We can and should save our children, but some people disagree.

Protecting our students sends the wrong message.

Do you vaccinate your kids? Do you take your children to the doctor when they are sick, or do you tell your children that disease is ugly and shouldn’t exist? I think that protecting our children sends the message we love them.

Guns are evil and it’s the gun’s fault.

If we think guns are evil, then why do we protect our politicians and judges with guns? Why do we protect politician’s children with guns? I think we should stop bad people before they hurt our innocent children.

We should protect our children even though some people can’t imagine evil.

I’ve met people who said they could never hurt someone else. Why should our children suffer because a few people don’t want to be bothered with their own defense?

Ordinary people do a good job of stopping the bad guy. When they are present, armed citizens stop or reduce the severity of mass murder attacks 95 percent of the time. We have never seen an armed civilian shoot an innocent victim during a mass murder attack.

Should we leave our students unprotected because of a safety concern
that never happened?

My friend Ed Monk studied public violence. We’ve had up to a hundred people shot if we wait for the police to end the threat. Having an armed defender close enough to hear or see the attack drops the number of victims to single digits. The armed defender saves dozens of lives..or more. We know that works.

“What is an acceptable number of dead and wounded victims to have
while waiting for police to arrive?” -Ed Monk

Despite the fantasy of crazy teachers shooting their kids, we don’t have a reported instance where an armed member of a school security team accidentally shot a student while at work. We haven’t seen it even though armed and trained school staff came to school thousands of times.

We need the armed defenders near the victims when the shooting starts. We can put hundreds of armed-volunteer school staff in place for the price of a single school resource officer.

How should we protect our children?

Plastic “No Guns” signs don’t save lives. Extending “gun-free zones” from the school doors out to 1000 feet from the edge of school property doesn’t save lives. Disarming the honest moms and dads who drop off their kids in the school parking lot doesn’t save lives. Those are the quack-cures of public safety. These false solutions have gotten our kids killed. Maybe they sounded like a good idea at one point, but they failed.

Our children’s safety is too important to leave to politicians and the press. Let’s do what works.

    1. The most damaging occurrence in our country is the administration of our schools. The indoctrination of our children in the Zero-tolerance policies of hide or run when attacked as the only socially acceptable actions, is against the laws of nature. Adults involved in the education and safety of our children should be prepared and willing to protect our children like a mother bear would hers. If not, these people should not be guiding our children in the learning of the world. The indoctrination of our children can remain imprinted for life.

    2. We must accept that we live in a time where the only way to provide reasonable (perhaps absolute) safety in an institutional situation like schools is to have closed campuses with armed gate guards and metal detectors on entry points. Most parents in urban living no longer allow their children to run free in the hood like we did as kids, because we all recognize that we’ve allowed the streets to become populated with too many pervs, gangsters and other forms of low life for children to be safe. If we accept that the streets aren’t safe, why should we be so stupid as to label a place like a school as “gun free”, and then be surprised when someone shoots one up. Why the ridiculous anti-gun crowds only response is to get rid of the 2nd and confiscate firearms, doesn’t surprise me, but still makes we wonder at the lunacy of these folks. God help us if they get more power than they already have.

    3. Missouri is shown in green, but the truth is almost no schools have armed staff. For the most part only high schools and middle schools have armed SRO’s.One SRO is better than nothing, but in the average school with 900 students spread out over eight wings, their can be a lot of casualties before the bravest officer gets to the scene.

Missouri has had the option of armed staff since the concealed carry law was passed in 2003 if the school board or superintendent of a district approves. The legislature has added additional optional training for school protection officers in addition to armed staff and SRO’s but districts continue to refuse to allow armed staff because of “guns” and “insurance” concerns. Students and staff remain extremely vulnerable. Utah shows the effectiveness of armed teachers without training beyond a CCW permit in Utah with a 23 year history of no successful school attacks.

    4. Prior to the “No Gun Zone” law, schools could have gun clubs, vehicles could contain firearms, teachers could self arm and we had no problems. That is until this law was passed. This law guaranteed lunatics time to kill as many as possible unopposed. Almost as if this Democratic Party written law was created to insure killings so the Democrats could get elected on a gun control platform. Children make high visibility victims and the media as well loves it!.

    5. IMOA all educators should be given the choice to be armed or not in GFZ. They could have firearms instruction, handling classes and a qualification courses for their weapon they intend to carry in school through the police or sheriffs offices using either their course of fire or a modified course set up for educators.
If their district doesn’t allow educators to carry, they should carry for their own protection and the protection of the students anyway. There are many types of belly bands, holsters or other methods of carry that the weapon won’t need to be taken off until the educator gets home.

    6. The bully only wins when the innocents cannot fight back. Gun Free Zones are the killing fields of the mentally unstable and the criminal element of our society.

      1. Good ole sleepy Joe dreamed this up and passed it. Along with all of his other gaffs you wonder why he is still in the running to be president. Yea, it would be a good day if he was elected, hah. Gun free zone signs belong to him and the blood of children is on his hands.

    7. Texas has 254 counties, of which at least 174 of them have armed teachers, administrators and staff. ( yes even janitors ) Not all of the school districts advertise that they have armed personal in the school so the above may be higher Also I believe Ohio is about 95% with only a couple of counties not using armed employees. We protect courts houses, banks, airports, shopping malls sports events and music festivals, why not protect our most valuable investments, our children with guns. Ban Gun Free Zones everywhere.

    8. I see shades of Blue inside of our State. The Evergreen State of Washington…..
-In Western WA State, there in not a single County that has a school district with Armed Teachers.
      – Can anyone prove differently?…Anyone?
-That would be a Constitutional Right. Again , not allowed West of the Cascade Mountain Range.
-2nd Amendment Constitutional Rights are ONLY allowed in Eastern Washington State.
NOT Permuted in Western Washington, of the Evergreen State.
Facts matter…….it is not so green over there….
