Driver Shoots 17-Year-Old Accused In Armed Robbery

Bob Irwin highlights the latest self-defense and other shootings of the week. Read them and see what went wrong, what went right, and what we can learn from self-defense with a gun.

USA –-(Ammoland.com)- WTHI TV 10 reports 05-20-19 in Terre Haute, Indiana, an attempted robbery turned into a shooting at a Terre Haute apartment complex on Monday.

The shooting happened near 19th Street in the Greenwood Manor Apartment complex. Terre Haute Police Department reported a cabbie from First Choice Cab picked up a fare in downtown and drove him to Greenwood Manor to drop him off.

That is when the 17-year-old passenger pulled a gun and tried to rob the driver. The cab driver pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber.

Terre Haute Police Public Information Officer Ryan Adamson said, “The cab driver pulled out a gun and shot the suspect. The suspect took off. He was located by our uniform division, is in custody (and) he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital”.

He will be charged as an adult for armed robbery, and there are no other suspects involved. The cab driver was not hurt.

Adamson told News 10 the cab driver does not face any charges at this time.

Comment;

A clearly a good shoot, it would save lives if all qualified public drivers to could carry firearms if they choose too.

Commercial drivers, cabbies, limos or Uber types here in Las Vegas are not permitted any defensive tools, but cameras installed to protect the drivers.

The result is their murders are recorded! I expect the drivers and their families think that is really helpful!

    A good shoot is one that stops the attack. That is what happened. Lives are precious gifts from God. Let’s pray for a complete rehabilitation of the young man!

    There are 2 important elements of this shooting that are being glossed over, but that warrant special consideration. First, while the juvenile would be robber isn’t an adult, he stepped out of the limits of childhood protection when he engaged in threatening behavior with an adult, and is being tried as an adult. While he is almost an adult (within a year of the age of majority), the same treatment should also be given to those younger than him who threaten adults, even at 14 or 15. We all knew threatening others with a gun and robbing them was wrong… Read more »

    I really don’t think the scumbag had to die for this to be considered a “good shoot”. What made it a “good shoot” was that the innocent victim took defensive action and lived.

    KDad, did you read the story before commenting? The thief also survived, “he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital.”

    Oh, I see, your comment is actually a reply to Darkman’s post. You didn’t use the reply link under his post. He also stated it was a good defensive use of a firearm – even though the thief survived to victimize more innocent people in the future, and possibly injuring or killing them during the remainder of his criminal career.

    @KDad, Well, as long as we are having fun playing on the phrase “good shoot” … It was a “good shoot”, had it been closer to the x ring, a bigger bullet, or more oomph, it would have been a better shoot. Well, at least the taxpayers get to enjoy it.

    They call this A Good Shoot, and The Suspect TOOK OFF. I think a Good Shoot they would find
    dead at the Scene. @ Darkman, You Are Correct.
