Why does the brass on that ammo look corroded? I have had the same issue with Federal’s XM80C 7.62×51 ammo as well. Almost like the brass is “rusting” or something. What’s causing that? Seems to me that new ammo that looks corroded and leaves rusty-colored powder all over your hands and in your magazines when you handle it is probably some sort of QC reject stuff. Yeah, it not affecting accuracy or velocities on any of the 7.62 or 5.56 from Federal that I have fired, but. . . . . damn, there is something not right about this corrosion… Read more »

The discoloration of case because it’s annealed/heated during manufacturing, likely when sizeing the case? it is normal as stated by US Armed Forces personell I’ve talked to.
