NASCAR Rejects Gun Ads, Cites “Gradual Shift” on Guns Joins Yeti, Dick’s, UnderArmour

Las Vegas, Nevada – -(AmmoLand.com)- ‘Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.’ ~ Winston Churchill.

The words are as true today as when Churchill uttered them in 1948 or George Santayana when he originally said essentially the same thing in 1905. Yet, major organizations, those with no stake in politics, are taking political sides and alienating their consumers in the process.

Perhaps the CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods was just ignorant of his consumer base or Yeti made a miscalculation when it cut ties with the NRA.

However, when it comes to NASCAR taking an anti-gun approach, it simply baffles the imagination as to who is calling the shots and how out of touch they are with their fan base.

NASCAR chooses Anti-Gun stance

“We just heard from NASCAR on a number of gun-related ads and unfortunately, due to a gradual shift in NASCAR’s position on guns, these ads must be edited/changed—especially those that are depicted as assault-style rifles/sniper rifles. NASCAR is still open to some of the less controversial gun accessories, concealed carry, or classes.”

Consider this, even if your audience was split 50-50 as to the issue of the Second Amendment, why would you intentionally alienate half of your base? Let’s take it to an extreme. What organization wants to intentionally anger even 10 percent of its base? I am sure much more than 10 percent of NASCAR’s fan base is pro-gun, but that seems to be of little import to NASCAR. This is an organization which bragged for years that it was born out of bootleggers running Moonshine. NASCAR’s Winston Cup Series ran for over three decades sponsored by none other than the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

K-Var Arms Corporation Ad Banned by NASCAR: NASCAR Rejects Gun Ads, Cites “Gradual Shift” on Guns Joins Yeti, Dick’s, UnderArmour

What about the Busch Series? Does NASCAR now view hunting rifles, Modern Sporting Rifles, and even scoped .22 LR rifles as so taboo that they cannot even be depicted in an ad in the official program sold at the races?

I am not a southerner nor a NASCAR fan but millions of Americans are. If NASCAR turns tail and runs like a democrat then I hope their fans tell them to shove it. I quit watching NFL, NBA and MLB because these people are not athletes they are PRIMA DONA’S. They get paid millions claiming their “sport life” is short due to injuries and need the high slaries. Well T. S. Cemeteries all over the world are filled with Americans who were paid less and gave a hell of a lot more. In this country we have graves filled with… Read more »

It’s ironic that an activity born of and steeped in reckless illegal behavior, that apparently sells and promotes the drug of choice of drunk drivers at it’s events, is now getting on roof of their platform and pointing a finger at someone engaged in a legal and constitutional activity. They are drifting sideways in the wind………

I never really watched a lot of sports, other than NASCAR, in the mid 60’s before it was popular in the North, I went down South and got hooked up with some teams when it was called Grand National Racing, it got bigger and costs were rising. much the same came into effect at the smaller tracks were going under in all parts of the country, it has been hard to take seeing this and now as I have said many times, THIS P/C IS WRECKING THE HELL OUT OF THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!! Hunting and Racing was my past time, now… Read more »

Roy

Well, I guess that since I no longer shop ar Dicks, I can quit watching NASCAR Races! No longer Watch Pro Football either!

KDad

I lost interest in NASCAR when all the cars were nothing more than clones and they changed the race format into three segments. It didn’t help either, when Dodge left racing. NASCAR has become PC like a few other organizations that I don’t support anymore.

Ricardo Pacetti

NASCAR is making a giant mistake with this anti-gun position.

Strokerup

Another sport bites the dust………….

HoundDogDave

Haven’t given a Sh!t about NASCAR since the Stock cars stopped being “STOCK” cars you could buy at the dealer and drive to the grocery store.

Phil in TX

I began to lose interest in NASCAR several years ago when the cars were turned into clones with the paint jobs being the only difference. I long for the days when Fords were really Fords, Chevys were really Chevys and Plymouth, Dodge, Pontiac, Mercury and Buick competed. With the clone cars there is really no reason to watch any more. As for the rejection of the ads, I agree with Dave C, they are shooting themselves in their own foot. The overwhelming majority of NASCAR fans are also fans of the outdoors, fishing and hunting. Firearms go along with that… Read more »

Nope, it started way before that. Once guys like Smokey Yunick left it was all downhill from there.

I had watched NASCAR as an interested, but not dedicated, viewer. It was a form of entertainment. I had even gone to a race several years ago. Now, this is good reason why I should NOT support anything NASCAR. The money I may have spent with them is/will be going to a reputable vendor. I will not waste time or money on useless liberals.

BTW, although I own one Yeti cooler, I will buy no more. I have since purchased two RTIC coolers. And Dicks? I don’t shop there anymore either.

Phil in TX

Yup. I’ve never been inside a Dick’s and will never go into one. No need. I have plenty of other places that are closer that I can spend my hard earned money in that don’t do political BS. As for Yeti, I can’t afford one of their coolers anyway. The closest NASCAR event to me is at Texas Motor Speedway which is a two hour drive on I-35 complete with all the semi traffic and construction. Then I would have to spend too much to attend and lots more for food and drink. Nope, I’ve got better things to do,… Read more »

Well! There goes a sport I USED to LOVE!!! Hey NASCAR!!!! When you come to your senses, let me know. Till then, YOU can GO FOR BROKE. Americans LOVE OUR FREEDOMS and RIGHTS which God GIVES!!!!!!!!

Dr. Strangelove

Well, all of those left turns must have finally had an effect on them.

Rock

And NASCAR puts the final nail in their own coffin, it’s about time…. Being the racing by NASCAR “everybody is equal” rules already SUCKED enough. The cars all being the SAME except for brand style stickers… Yeah, DONE with the entire pile of leftist, political correct, socialist infiltrated SHIT organization ! It has become another ad campaign for the Dems/libs.
NASCAR is now BANNED in my home !

Eric R

I was already down to just watching 2 NASCAR races each year; Daytona and the Bristol night race. NBC turned Bristol into a series of commercials interrupted by the occasional race segment and I didn’t even make it to the end of the race.
You left your base audience in the rear view years ago but this is the final straw for me. Wonder if Bass Pro will be back as a race sponsor?
Adios NASCAR …..this is where I exit.

cav2108

Nothing more for you, and your organization, any more. You will need to move all your operations and events to NJ, CA, and NY. You will need to start developing a new fan base. Maybe Soros and antiFA will sponsor your antics. The leftist liberals are the real racists, but I don’t think that means that they like car races . . . . . . . too late for you though, and no going back. You and I are done.

Gene Ralno

NASCAR management is so busy racing, they don’t have time to read. Here’s a short lesson. None of this folderol is necessary because 2018 data reveals gun homicides declined seven percent, firearm injuries declined 10 percent, fatal child shootings (under 18) declined 12 percent and unintentional shootings plummeted 21 percent. Generally, since 1991, the murder rate has fallen by 45 percent and the overall violent crime rate has fallen by 48 percent. Further, shooting incidents involving students have been declining since the ’90s. During that time, citizens were buying a record number of firearms. In 2018, more than 26 million… Read more »

I hope you don’t mind, but I’m stealing this.

NASCAR just lost another fan. More importantly THE SPONSORS who underwrite the cars/teams/events have lost someone who purchased their products. I doubt that the sponsors are too worried about one little old man in Arizona not buying their products. I do believe the sponsors will sit up and take notice when tens of thousands of FORMER NASCAR Fans tell the sponsors to take their products to another venue or watch your sales collapse. Was looking for a new car….it will NOT be a Ford, Chevy, or Toyota now. Hey, it’s a start!

JPM

NASCAR’s roots are in running moonshine and anti-government actions (avoiding and fighting “Revenuers” – the early manifestation of the BATF). Not only did the moon shiners modify their vehicles to create the cars that would today be the basis for NASCAR, but THEY CARRIED AND USED GUNS! The drivers should put gun and gun product sponsors on their jump suits and vehicles in extra-large letters and bold, bright colors. It’s understandable that in today’s sorry state of affairs across the nation that most Americans are ignorant of American History details, but NASCAR being ignorant of, or ignoring their OWN history… Read more »

It’s a simple truth – “Dance with the one that brung ya” or “Don’t let the door hitcha where the good Lord splitcha.”

Deplorable Bill

So much for watching nascar anymore. You either stand up for what is right BIBLICALLY, constitutionally or you don’t. Next will be people who take a knee at the national anthem. Arm up, carry on.

joefoam

Do the ad execs have any clue as to their customer base is? Ask the NFL how much their antics with CK cost them in viewership.

tomcat

I have watched Nascar for a long time and even attended some of the races, however, the management had changed a few years ago and things have been downhill since. If you look during a race the stands are never more than half full and NBC spends more time advertising than showing the race. I have said this to them and about their stages but to no avail. I guess they are headed the same direction of the NRA and NFL. Large amounts of money coming in swells these CEO’s heads so they can’t think anymore.

Hogbreath

Final straw for me–nascar was beginning to bore me anyway–just burned my tshirts and hats, NO nascar will be viewed on any tv in my home !

Nanashi

People are surprised Nascar is turning left?

Robert

LOL, so we need them to reverse the course to fix this

ras52

Will, I quit watching races a few years ago. They are too much like Hollywood now. NFL ,Dicks, Yeti, Levis, NASCAR, like you said, to Hell with them all.

james

NASCAR just trying to make themselves PC so they can be sold off to the highest bidder.

james

I’m done with NASCAR since they clobbered up the oval into a ROVAL.

Heretic

I lost all interest in NASCAR several years ago, mainly because of its increasing affinity to Leftist principles and the abandonment of their Conservative base. Cookie-cutter, purpose-built race cars which NASCAR tries to pass off as Chevies, Fords, and Toyotas with plastic decals providing the only difference among them are also a bad joke.

Terry

Okay guys they don’t support us we do t support them. I express that every time I see Yeti coolers in. A gun sport store.

Magnum

NASCAR is on the way down the tubes anyway, just look at the empty seats and those are after they have already removed 100’s of thousands of seats from the tracks so they don’t appear empty on TV. They can’t even fill a full 43 car race field anymore, 37-38 cars are about it.

Bob Sadtler

SCREW nascar! Thanks to Richmond’s web of one-way streets, if I want to watch a bunch of rednecks drive around in a circle, I can park my @$$ on any street corner and watch it FOR FREE!

Eat $#!+, you backward morons!

Jim

Was watching the Road America race today, and noticed that there were “Henry Repeating Rifles” banners along side the track.

Dave C

Methinks they shoot themselves in their own foot…..

Montana59

It”s the boy or grandson brain france. He is a left wing communist. he’s grandfather is turning in his grave. I haven.t watched races in years

Ryben Flynn

NASCAR has so few races on free broadcast TV I don’t even know when they are on and miss most of them. So I’ve seen maybe 3 races all year so far. Don’t really care about NASCAR anymore. And the one I would be most interested to watch at Darlington is not on free TV. And I live in SC. It’s a 1 hour drive from me, but I made the mistake of traveling through Darlington on a race day once and the traffic was horrendous. Not going to go and have to fight all that and pay for those… Read more »

F*ck NASCAR whisky runners!

Isnt Childress on the NRA board?I wonder what he thinks about this nonsense?

Get Out

I was never a fan of NASCAR or racing anyway, so no loss there. They might want to recheck their fan base and they’ll find they’re probably a lot of gun owners who attend their races don’t or won’t agree with their anti-gun position.

Stripeseven

Go straight then turn “LEFT”…Way to the left…..

TexasOlTimer

I was an avid NASCAR fan until NASCAR began to change the rules. While other sports play one on one every week and need playoffs to find the best, NASCAR has all 43 teams playing together every week. To have a playoff where the best can lose just doesn’t work. Then they started the ‘heats’ – I dumped it. It’s time to either boycott all the advertisers and NASCAR to make them come back to what the sport once was and was meant to be.

Waldo

I think it may be time to start boycotting the advertisers that NASCAR DOES approve of, & make sure they know about it & why! As well as encourage others to do the same!

Vern

I stopped watching the races years ago, they became boring as they were becoming all the same. As far as boycotting goes, anyone who is a veteran who used to get a discount at Cabelas on reloading items notice they don’t do that anymore for veterans? That happened when Bass Pro bought Cabelas.

Dave C

I thought all they stopped was the discount on loaded ammo…..

Ed

Drive fast, tun left. Skid right, kiss wall. Nuff said.

Green Mtn. Boy

YeP,I shifted right on past them,Eff em.

It is not a “Gradual Shift”, it is an assault with a bulldozer. Think we are gonna need a bigger Bulldozer.
