NRA Statement on Texas Lt. Gov.'s Gun Control Proposals

Fairfax, VA – -(Ammoland.com)- The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action released the following statement on Friday regarding Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's recent comments on gun control proposals:

“With due respect, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s “proposals” would resurrect the same broken, Bloomberg-funded failures that were attempted under the Obama administration.”

“Like most political gambits, Lt. Gov. Patrick’s “solution” precedes his possession of the facts, including this critical concession by the Obama administration: Criminalizing private firearm transfers would require a massive, governmental gun registration scheme. Instead of trampling the freedom of law-abiding Americans, the government should focus upon actual solutions: fixing our broken mental health system, prosecuting known criminals and enforcing the existing gun laws that require follow-up whenever a prohibited person tries to buy a firearm. In the meantime, the NRA remains at the forefront of legitimate efforts to combat crime in our country. We encourage Lt. Gov. Patrick to join us in support of the same.”

It’s a wonder how these anti-gunners can say “We don’t want your guns!” without laughing. Everything they try to pass or propose only applies to the law abiding citizens.

Maybe instead of gun control we should engage in population control. We have a Constitution that is the law of the land, yet we allow people whose ideology is a direct conflict with that Constitution to live in this country. I say we establish a law that forbids anyone of an UNCONSTITUTIONAL ideology (communists, muslimes, socialists, etc.) from being US citizens. Deport all of those who are naturalized, and exile/expatriate all of those who are born citizens. Additionally the law would prevent any politician who creates or supports legislation that violates the Constitution from holding office FOREVER! This would quickly… Read more »

I’m pretty sure the communist party was banned from the ballot in the 1950s, so they called theirselves democrats..but what I want to know is where do they think they have the right to ban my right?..The Constitution grants authority to the Federal government to enforce 3 laws, counterfeiting,Piracy on the seas and Treason..the 10th Amendment says, the powers not delegated to the United States..and yes I agree, we should expel all enemies of our Constitution!

@Free, The Communist Party was not outlawed. Gus Hall was the Communist Party candidate for pres. for decades. They just could not get anywhere calling themselves communist. The federal government is not just the federal government. The federal government is divided into three parts. To write about “the Federal government ” as if it were one entity is a gross oversimplification. The Constitution grants Congress more authority than enforcing three laws! Taxing power, authority to raise army, commerce power, budgeting authority, declare war, etc, etc. The Executive, another part of the federal government, has his powers, from pardon to commander… Read more »

The communist control act, (68 Stat. 775 50 U.S.C 841-844) signed by Eisenhower 24 August, 1954 which outlaws the communist party! There is no laws on the American people in the Constitution, Its left up to the States!..theres no tax on intersate commerce and the feds are to make sure it runs smoothly, thats why theres post roads and post offices! to raise armys incase of invasion or rebelion! the only tax was on imports and whiskey, the U.S Marshal service was put into service in 1792, in some cases they cleaned up a lawless town and left! the Navy… Read more »

@Free, You asserted that the Federal gov has authority to enforce three laws (“The Constitution grants authority to the Federal government to enforce 3 laws, …”) That is obviously not true. The Communist Control Act (68 Stat. 775, 50 U.S.C. 841-844) is signed into law by President Dwight Eisenhower on 24 August 1954. The Act has since been ruled unconstitutional in federal court but has not been ruled on in the Supreme Court and has never been enforced. (That is how Gus Hall was able to run for president on the communist party ticket every four years and not be… Read more »

read Article I sec. 8…..Article VI, paragraph II , this constitution and the laws of the united states which shall be made in “Peursuance there of “..There was no federal police because there was only 3 laws on the american people, Treason, counterfeiting and Piracy on the seas, you better study up, it also only grants authority to forts and arsenals, ship yards and dock yards and any other useful buildings..

@Free, those people write outrageous stuff you get you to click on. They are no one to learn Constitutional analysis from. Get a used copy of “Constitutional Interpretation” by Craig R. Ducat and Harold W. Chase. They are probable in their zillionth printing by now, so the book will be cheap.

I dont need an interpreter, I know what it says, I read the writings of our founders!..The only Constitutional law authority is the U.S Marshals!..Confirmed by the U.S Senate, theres 52 of them all with deputies!..The constitution doesnt restrict us, its a document of how the Federal government is to be run..if it dont say they can do it, they cant!..the 10th amendment is clear, I’m sorry that you need an interpreter, Theres only 3 laws the United States government can enforce, Piracy, Treason and counterfeiting, Its the States responsibility and Right to pass any laws

    Doesn’t matter what ILA says.

What matters is what PVF says.

Will they continue to endorse Patrick?

The tools are already in place. If the appropriate steps are taken within the mental health system then those not mentally stable will be adjudicated and in the system. This doesn’t always happen because a lot of mental health professionals are either overworked or too lazy to do the right thing. They juice up their patients on mood altering drugs, prescribe drugs that most people can’t even pronounce and send these folks back out in to society trusting that they will continue to take their meds. If criminals don’t get guns they will use something else as a weapon. restricting… Read more »

@Ed, Did you know that criminals are not required to fill out form 4473 to buy a gun?
It is true, the S. Ct said that requiring criminals to fill out the 4473 form is requiring them to testify against themselves, and the government does not have the power to do that.
Why don’t we just dump the whole GCA, NFA, and NICS and go back to something that we know works? Restore the Republic.

At least Lt. Gov Patrick is trying to protect our rights and help prevent guns from getting into the wrong hands. Most others are simply trying to take away our rights.

And therein lies the rub – Agree to any compromise with the gun grabbers at your own risk. Any step towards gutting the 2A is a good thing for them.

    Will

@Jeff,but what Patrick is proposing won’t stop guns from getting into the wrong hands. It will only make life more miserable for law-abiding firearms owners exercising their 2A civil rights and freedoms. He isn’t protecting shit. Compromising and caving into gungrabbers will end many political careers. Patrick will soon find that out too.

Here’s an idea. Let’s be consistent and logical (ok – let me dream). Anyway – private ownership and carry of a firearm is a civil right. Voting is a civil right. So let us – nationwide – tie those civil rights together. Do we want felons to carry firearms? NO. Do we want felons to vote? NO. Do we want illegal immigrants to carry firearms? NO. Do we want illegal immigrants to vote? NO. Do we want mentally unstable folks to carry firearms? NO. Do we want mentally unstable folks to vote? NO. SO If you’re a capable (no adjudicated… Read more »

@C, You’d have to flesh out the details of your essay. For instance, what are the standards of mentally unstable? Who decides those standards? Based upon what? Who applies those standards? If I am in charge, then I say anyone that is a member of the democrat party is mentally unstable. And there is some evidence to that effect. Vegans would say anyone that ever ate meat is mentally unstable. AOC would say anyone that does not drop everything and devote their life to green doctrine is mentally unstable. I could go on. Your valid picture id requires government control.… Read more »

It has nothing to do with saving lives its all about disarming the people Because no country has ever turned to socialism without first disarming the people. Under socialism all the people are slaves to the government and 95 percent of the people live in poverty, and they have no way to fight to get their freedom back.

We’re already slaves to our debt. A situation that’s been encouraged by the government and financial institutions for decades. Debt by household has skyrocketed since the 1950’s.

What’s required is discipline. In a totally me-centered, consumerist society, that’s definitely swimming against the current. It’s sort of like sexual abstinence – possible to do, but almost no one is willing to do it.

I’ve been handing out a pamphlet for years now on this issue. It all fits on both sides of a tri-fold 8 1/2 X 11, but too long to post as a comment. The title is: “Money & Power, a possible solution?” I’ve handed out hundreds and gotten exactly ZERO responses.
From where I sit it looks much more like people don’t WANT a solution, but just want to complain incessantly.

All ‘gun control laws’ are un-Constitutional: Article 6, U.S. Constitution “The Constitution…shall be the supreme law of the land”. Therefore, no federal or state legislative law, Executive Order or local decree may limit, deny, change or modify the Constitution. THAT is called the ‘Supremacy Clause’. Article 6 continues “All laws must conform to and be made pursuant to the Constitution”. Therefore, any federal or state legislative law, Executive Order or local decree not in 100% harmony with the U.S. Constitution, is null & void. When Americans obey the un-Constitutional ‘gun control laws’, they tell the tyrant they will accept any… Read more »

That is exactly CORRECT. Just look at what gun owners did in England and Australia. They became total slaves to their despotic governments and are still at the mercy of common criminals as well as those that wear uniforms. And yes, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED seems pretty easy to understand. And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand it.

I agreed 100% that any and all gun laws that limit a non-restricted American citizen, any right to own, carry, buy, or sell their privately owned firearms or “weapons”, is totally against the Constitution and the fundamental God or natural rights that are protected and unalienable. I 100% agree that the government is overstepping their duties that We, The People, have GIVEN them as elected officials and should first and foremost uphold the Constitution that they swore an oath to honor, protect and enforce. Out of the over 10,000 laws on the books, only the ones that holds them responsible… Read more »

Well said sir. I have always maintained that bad laws (unconstitutional and mala prohibita laws) should NOT be obeyed while good laws (Constitutional and mala in se laws) deserve to be obeyed. It’s not an easy thing to do these days with so many laws on the books and given the consequences of non-compliance, but it’s a personal thing that should be practiced by all patriots across the nation. The fact that the only way politicians judge their success is by the number of new laws that they introduce that are passed is just wrong. I pray every election season… Read more »
