A recent Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation survey found that 51 percent of American millennials would rather live in a socialist or communist country than in a capitalist country.

USA – -(Ammoland.com)- A recent survey conducted by the Victims of Communism and polled by YouGov, a research and data firm, found that 70% of millennials are likely to vote socialist and that one in three millennials saw communism as “favorable.”

Let examine this tragic vision in light of the Fraser Institute's recently released annual study “Economic Freedom of the World,” prepared by Professors James Gwartney, Florida State University; Robert A. Lawson and Ryan Murphy of Southern Methodist University; and Joshua Hall, West Virginia University, in cooperation with the Economic Freedom Network.

Hong Kong and Singapore maintained their lead as the world's most economically free countries — although China's heavy hand threatens Hong Kong's top ranking. Rounding out the top 10 are New Zealand, Switzerland, the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Mauritius.

By the way, after having fallen to 16th in 2016, the U.S. has staged a comeback to being in the top five economically free countries in the world.

What statistics go into the Fraser Institute's calculation of economic freedom? The report measures the ability of individuals to make their own economic decisions by analyzing the policies and institutions of 162 countries and territories. These include regulation, freedom to trade internationally, size of government, sound legal system, private property rights, and government spending and taxation.

Fraser Institute scholar Fred McMahon says, “Where people are free to pursue their own opportunities and make their own choices, they lead more prosperous, happier and healthier lives.” The evidence for his assessment is: Countries in the top quartile of economic freedom had an average per-capita GDP of $36,770 in 2017 compared with $6,140 for bottom quartile countries. Poverty rates are lower. In the top quartile, 1.8% of the population experienced extreme poverty ($1.90 a day) compared with 27.2% in the lowest quartile. Life expectancy is 79.5 years in the top quartile of economically free countries compared with 64.4 years in the bottom quartile.

The Fraser Institute's rankings of other major countries include Japan (17th), Germany (20th), Italy (46th), France (50th), Mexico (76th), India (79th), Russia (85th), China (113th) and Brazil (120th). The least free countries are Venezuela, Argentina, Ukraine and nearly every African country with the most notable exception of Mauritius. By the way, Argentina and Venezuela used to be rich until they bought into socialism.

During the Cold War, leftists made a moral equivalency between communist totalitarianism and democracy. W. E. B. Du Bois, writing in the National Guardian (1953) said, “Joseph Stalin was a great man; few other men of the 20th century approach his stature.”

Walter Duranty called Stalin “the greatest living statesman … a quiet, unobtrusive man.”

George Bernard Shaw expressed admiration for Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin.

Economist John Kenneth Galbraith visited Mao's China and praised Mao Zedong and the Chinese economic system.

Gunther Stein of the Christian Science Monitor also admired Mao and declared ecstatically that “the men and women pioneers of Yenan are truly new humans in spirit, thought and action.”

Michel Oksenberg, President Jimmy Carter's China expert, complained that “America (is) doomed to decay until radical, even revolutionary, change fundamentally alters the institutions and values,” and urged us to “borrow ideas and solutions” from China.

Leftists exempted communist leaders from the harsh criticism directed toward Adolf Hitler, even though communist crimes against humanity made Hitler's slaughter of 11 million noncombatants appear almost amateurish. According to Professor R.J. Rummel's research in “Death by Government,” from 1917 until its collapse, the Soviet Union murdered or caused the death of 61 million people, mostly its own citizens. From 1949 to 1976, Mao's Communist regime was responsible for the death of as many as 76 million Chinese citizens.

Today's leftists, socialists, and progressives would bristle at the suggestion that their agenda differs little from that of past tyrants. They should keep in mind that the origins of the unspeakable horrors of Nazism, Stalinism, and Maoism did not begin in the '20s, '30s and '40s. Those horrors were simply the result of a long evolution of ideas leading to a consolidation of power in the central government in the quest for “social justice.”

Hold on now! Does anyone else see it, or is it just commie pareidolia? Look closely at the upper right part of the American flag, and tell me that that image isn’t suggesting the death of America by by an oncoming sea of commie red? Look closer, and follow the contours, and they line up EXACTLY with the Soviet flag. Surely Occam’s Razor would say this is more than just coincidence?

You’re right, I see it too. & yes, we will be destroyed from within. I doubt there is anything any of us can do to delay the inevitable. I am soooo disheartened that I even question whether or not Trump will win in 2020! Truly scary stuff thinking about the demise of your nation….by its own inhabitants.

The youth of today are not taught but dictated to in our schools by people who believe in socialism. These people have not lived in that environment and believe they know best. I am here to tell the youth socialism is not living and in fact you are denied the right to live freely. NOTHING IS FREE. In socialism you are told what to do, what to study, what work to do, where to work, what your house can look like and the government does what they want with YOUR money PLUS YOU CAN NOT OBJECT. Ask someone who has… Read more »

The ideology of the left is to, “RULE,” over the people, not lead them.

The left believes they know best and therefore we are supposed to follow them and do what they say. I have heard the same $hit from dictators ever since WWII. They were full of it then and the same types are still full of it now.

Just visit the Socialist web page. You are promised a 10 hour max workweek and the gov’t provides everything for you. It demonstrates how gullible and poorly educated the generation is.

I call them “over-educated idiots.” I don’t mean to be insulting, but have yet to find a better way of expressing what they’ve become. Or what our colleges are quietly turning out via their socialist agendas. These are the same young people you see stumbling and fumbling for words when Jesse Waters asks them general knowledge questions, and they look at him like he’s got worms crawling out his ears. Ask them, as I have because I was there, what the date 18 MAY 1980 means historically for America, and suddenly, you’re the one with worms crawling out your ears.… Read more »

Sure and it was your tax dollars at work that educated, indoctrinated and mentally constipated these young people.
Higher education is a joke at most schools anymore.
God bless School of the Ozarks. One of a dying breed.

Isn’t it interesting that people who have never experienced communism or socialism are so easily willing to embrace it? The left knows if you control the narrative, you control the mindset. Indoctrinating school age children from pre-school to college is a slow methodical agenda which is starting to yield visible results. This is clearly evidenced on how easily it was to turn historical butchers into political heroes. The left are experts on steering people where they want them to go. Their masterpiece of deception is to accomplish it in plain sight.

Also worth mentioning… “I’d rather be with Russia, than the Democrats.” Because if there’s one person in the world who hasn’t forgotten history, it’s Putin. And the one thing he hates more than chellengers to his throne, it’s America. Or how about, “The American civil war was fought because states rights, not slavery.” Another ignorant creation of the failing public education system in the south. And lastly, “The second amendement was made for hunters, or for a well organized militia, not for private citizens to fight the government.” This idea will be the end of the bill of rights.

Over 130,000,000 men, women and children died in the 20th century DIRECTLY due to communism. Communism, sold under the guise of a benevolent socialism that gives you every need and want, is a totalitarian ‘government’ that owns everything and everyone. We see it in Hong Kong, where the Chinese come in, load up 100 or 150 people snatched right off the street, and take them back to mainland China for a work detail. In ALL communist takeovers, the supply chains stop or slow down. How do communists solve THAT problem? They kill about 30% of the population. Instantly there is… Read more »

Actually, JPFO estimates that 260 million+ people were murdered by their own governments in the 20th century, after being disarmed!

A more truthful title would be, “Most people are ignorant of history.”

And the MOST accurate way to put it would be; “People who learned history in school know nothing, because all the good history that has value has been hidden away to support the criminals in their lust for ultimate power.”
That’s better. No one ever learned history without they sought it out on their own dime. The textbooks only contain pablum intended for babies…. and sheeple. 🙂

I would agree with you. I graduated high school in may of ’73 and even up to then classroom material was only intended to provide an outline or framework of history. How could it be otherwise given the time restraints of the school day. I spent many, many hours reading encyclopedias written in the ’40s and ’50s, of which we had a set in my home. They would have a section on the First World War, for example, that might be 100 pages long. And the latest set we had at school, ’60s, might have a third of that. To… Read more »

How to you convert a country to communism? You teach the children communism will give them everything for free.

@ttj, How do you prevent that conversion? You get control of the local school board.

Just as happened here…. back in the 1800s!

Why Is The United States Still Using The Prussian Education System?

WHY? Because it provides the best in mental conditioning to install blind obedience. That’s why. It’s simple, but extremely obvious.

I read that article and can say that did not represent my classroom experience in any class for twelve years. I am calling BS on his “beliefs.”

Agreed, that commentary (Knute’s link) is pure bs.
