Proposed Credit Card Gun Purchase Bill Could Evolve into Confiscators’ Dream

Talk about “commonsense gun safety laws” notwithstanding, the “Real Men Don’t Need Guns” sign at the NRA HQ protest says it all about ultimate intent. (Jennifer Wexton/Facebook)

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Wexton bill would use credit card data to track firearms purchases,” The Washington Post reported Friday. “Congressional gridlock on gun legislation led Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) to seek creative ways to prevent gun violence.”

If by “creative” they mean unhampered by concepts of limited Constitutional government and unalienable rights, they have a point. Then again, we are dealing with totalitarian wannabes, and fresh off a manipulated demographics victory for Democrats, Virginia is undergoing an eye-rolling gun-grabber feeding frenzy.

Wexton says she “wants banks and credit card companies to flag purchases that could signal a person is preparing to carry out a mass shooting.” You know, kind of like the Department of Pre-Crime, but this one will rely on the type of economic fascism the power zealots refer to by the euphemism “public/private partnership.” Those “partners” like Citigroup and Bank of America, who are banking on disarmament, will be glad to help.

And it won’t be just gun purchases that are flagged.

“An effective program,” we are told, “would have to track credit card purchases of guns and ammunition as well as equipment such as body armor and night-vision goggles across multiple retailers. Because why else would anyone NEED such items…? Right?

Naturally, Everytown, that never saw an infringement it didn’t try to ram down gun owners’ throats, is all on board with the idea. And just as naturally, interested flacks like Joseph Moreno, a former federal prosecutor and FBI consultant who is a partner at the financial services law firm Cadwalader, is out there selling this abomination as “moderate middle ground that privacy and Second Amendment advocates should be able to meet in the middle on.”

That’s grabberspeak for anyone who is against it must be an extremist, designed to appeal to the ignorant and to “moderate Republicans.” That means anyone against it can now be smeared as exactly the type of “lone wolf domestic terrorist homegrown violent extremist” Wexton’s bill, H.R. 5132, pretends it can deter.

After all, Moreno assures us, “We’re not talking about banning any kind of purchases or a federal registry.”

Not for now, but let the Democrats secure majorities and Katie bar the door. Meanwhile, here’s what they are really talking about even if they don’t admit it here, understanding that they will happily take increments on the way to getting it all: Such steps would include banning private sales. And imagine what enforcers doing the bidding of citizen disarmament enthusiasts could do with information putting not only targets in their sights, but also guidance on how to word the warrants. And once this jackboot is in the door, imagine how much wider it can be kicked open. Case in point, be careful about using credit cards on state-determined “legal product” purchases.

Meanwhile, the street gangs doing the brunt of the killings in urban Democrat strongholds will continue operating as usual, undeterred.

The good news is this is much ado about nothing—for now. GovTrack and its Skopos Lab prognosis give Wexton’s bill a “1% chance of being enacted.” But that doesn’t mean we can just shrug it off and forget about it.
Being aware and on guard for this, and for all the avenues of attack, gives us a glimpse of the nonstop gun bans, grabs, edicts, orders, rules and rulings we can expect should the violence monopolists take it all in 2020.

These banks can be sued for violating customers privacy. I suggest we all get to suing and raising hell with our local representatives. Demand that financial institutions are liable for damages as a result of unconstitutional privacy violations. Sounds good to me.

Link

You have the money to sue. ??
And once the anti-gun people change the law they put in wording to prevent the banks from being sued as the banks are now complying with the laws.
Did not think it through did you ??

Wild Bill

@Link, Class action!

Tionico

document the harm done by the breach of your privacy, then file a commercial lien against the merchant and banking system that breached your security of personal data. That lien will ust sit there….. tying up THEIR assets, until THEY decide to settle. No need to even prove it in a court. If they try, you have your claim of breach.

BowserB

Gun owners need to be members of, and contributors to, the Second Amendment Foundation. That organization brings suit when necessary and feasible. Indeed there have been cases where SAF’s work was hijacked by NRA stepping in at the 11th hour, doing little but claiming credit. And the anti-gun crowd can’t claim SAF is “influencing lawmakers.”

tetejaun

If they are not influencing lawmakers, they are useless.
SAF and RKBA brought suit to the GW Bush federal government, They petitioned for redress of grievance per the First Amendment. The federal government refused to see their petition. The NRA had tried that earlier under the rapist Bill Clinton with same effect.
If you are not an NRA member, then you are not knowledgeable at all about whom has the power and fights for the Second Amendment. Or, maybe you just believe the democrat press.
There is one big dog and a bunch of barking chihuahuas.

Will Flatt

Won’t happen. Moreover, the government will not allow suits against banks where banks are required to perform the action that is at controversy. Privacy violated?? You have no standing if that privacy violation is in accordance with government edict; and the banks already violate your privacy six ways to Sunday on the orders of the government!! Better to pay in person with cash.

tetejaun

“lone wolf domestic terrorist homegrown violent extremist” You mean the DEMOCRAT mass murderers and mass shooters, the DEMOCRAT “lone wolf domestic terrorist homegrown violent extremist”? Because EVERY mass shooter/mass murderer has been a democrat for the last 40 years. HERE is a SHORT list: 1. Gary Martin, democrat, that shot up co-workers & police in Aurora, IL. 2. Robert Bowers, democrat, that shot up Jews at Tree of Life Synagogue. 3. Stephen Paddock, democrat and Bernie activist, killed 58, wounded 800 at concert in Las Vegas. 4. Nikolas Cruz, democrat, shot up High School in Florida.(member ‘Young Democrats Club’). 5.… Read more »

One must remember that MOST if not ALL of these Democratic RADICALIZED LEFT WING TERRORISTS were on PSYCHOTROPIC “doctor” PRESCRIBED DRUGS!! No one mentions the affiliation of these doctors for hire!

Some guy

A simple comparison of the rates these psychoactive drugs are prescribed, versus the rate of mass shootings will put the blame exactly where it belongs. At the feet of big pharma. Notice how NO gun rights outfit will say this? Know why? MONEY.

BowserB

Most of these domestic mass murderers (actually nearly all) were on, or withdrawing from, behavior altering prescription drugs, often from childhood thanks to parents looking for alternatives to parenting. Here is a short list. These are from the companies with real lobbying power: Prozac, Xanax, Ambien, Trazodone, Zoloft, Paxil, Ritalin, Luvox, Effexor, Celexa.

John Noveske published a list of mass murderers and their prescription drugs. He died shortly after in a single car accident in daylight in good weather on a deserted country road. His list on Facebook disappeared almost immediately.

tetejaun

A LOT of money the the anti-gun business.
Communist democrats will not allow their slaves to be armed.

Bill

Love your writing, it’s always spot on. You, like a few here, truly understand these people and are able to extrapolate their moves, something that takes a deep understanding of the conspirators minds. A real understanding of history helps too because this has ALL been done before and most are too dumb to have learned anything from it, and well, you know how that saying goes….. those who dont know history…..

tetejaun

Had this been 1777, many of those folks would be shot already.
Communists and the uneducated cowards are a disease destroying the United States.

tetejaun

Yes, I saw that and heard them singing our National Anthem.
Freedom is a good thing. Worth fighting for.

BowserB

Ironic that just as others admire and wish for our freedoms, the Democrats are in high speed pursuit of socialist communism. The Chinese people want what we have; the American Democrats want what the Chinese communist government leaders have.

Arny

This is exactly why I buy with CASH. Cash is golden. People better learn to use it. Because once we are a cashless society the Govt will have full control over you.

Wild Bill

@Arny, Yep, the street outside every gun store will be lined with cash machines! And it is true that government hates untraceable cash, so … have lots.
The weakness with cash is that the government can call in the old style currency and limit the amount of currency to be turned in for new style currency. That has not been done in the US, but it has been done in other countries. So, a little gold, a little silver, and lots of canned goods and munitions.

BowserB

You’re right, of course, Arny. And I’ll be on the list right from the start, along with millions of others. I buy 5.56 and 9mm in bulk online. A thousand rounds of “military grade” ammo will surely get the attention of the new Precrime agency.

(Side note. A lot of online dealers are going to lose one of their advantages on January 1, when many or most will have to start collecting state sales tax regardless of nexus. If you have an online bulk purchase in mind, you might want to place your order this month.)

nrringlee

Apply the same theory to anyone who is making a pattern of purchases or ceasing a pattern of purchases with credit cards that might signal a pending abortion. After all, it is about protecting children, isn’t it? Anyone who shows signs of abortion intent needs to be Red Flagged. See how progressives and leftists choke on that one. And oh, yes, abortion is not an enumerated natural right. Just wanted to get that in.

Ansel Hazen

Too funny. Organic save the planet eco friendly rope. How ironic it would be.

Tionico

Personally I prefer the extra “jusstice” metaphor of utilising the old and well proven means of the firing squad for lawful executions, after being duly tried, convicted, and sentenced, precisely BECAUSE it would being the very thing these traitors sought to ban to bear against them in their treason. Require that they NOT be hooded. Let them ponder the poetic and legal justice of the very tool they sought to demonise and remove from society is about to be employed to remove THEM and their diseased hearts from society. I believe it would serve as an extra level of deterreng… Read more »

Wild Bill

@Tio, Firing Squad? We will run out of walls. Can’t we just shoot them as we run by?

Mack

Wexton is dangerous. Her bill could give states ideas.

Wild Bill

@Mack, You are correct, and that is why this next election is so important. Only we can drain the legislative swamp, so that Trump can drain the judicial swamp and bureaucratic swamps.

BowserB

Every Democrat in office is dangerous now. It used to be that a certain level of intelligence was necessary to get elected to public office. Now idiots, whacko’s, and outright criminals can get into office–and get the press to listen to them!

Tionico

Probably not her orignial idea, and THAT is the scary part. With outfits like BloomingIdiotBurg’s Mad Mamas and such, these pollitical organisations are putting these diabolical plans into the empty heads of elected “lawmaker” and at times even funding their “creativity”, or, as in the case of nasty gun bills floated in many states (Washington Oregon, Nevada, to name three recent I know of) writing the legislation for them, then letting them trot out their diseased ponies onto the circus midway as their own creations.

Follow the money. Every time, that leads to the gun grabby crowd.

BowserB

Almost the scariest part of this article is the WaPo headline: “Congressional gridlock on gun legislation led Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) to seek creative ways to prevent gun violence.” There are still a lot of people who believe that rag (owned by Jeff Bezos) publishes news and the truth. This headline is, of course, neither. My friends, I have to repeat. The word must be gotten out to every gun owner in America–and that includes the millions who think “they’re not talking about my hunting rifle, varmint rifle, etc.” With one hundred million potential votes, we can turn this nation… Read more »

I agree. We need to vote. Those that scream about civil war most likely don’t vote and have never seen war. Getting off our lazy collective ass and voting is first. Running for offices such as city council and mayor and then more is how we beat this garbage. If and idiot like AOC can get elected why can’t we?

Wild Bill

@Op Z, Yeah, if they can not get off their butt to go vote, what makes them think that they can deploy?

Chris Mallory

You going to vote for the big government progressive with the D beside his name or the big government progressive with the R beside his name?

Thanks to the “magic dirt” people, we aren’t going to vote our way out of this. So people wouldn’t call you a “racist” you allowed the borders to be open to anyone and everyone. We should have ended all immigration in 1790. All immigration has been bad for America and Americans.

Wild Bill

@CM, Can we, instead, seek out and support the “not corrupted yet” primary candidates? Then the d or r party is denied the party hack candidate. Restore the Republic.

Doszap

While I agree voting is a MUST,it just buys some time. THIS CRAP must be stopped dead on, time these organizations were opened up to Sunshine, and be decimated by truth of WHO and WHAT they are, MARXIST FASCISTS.
If not NOW, WHEN?.

Wild Bill

@OV, I am hoping that those state and city government buy ups will get Trumped! Restore the Republic.

Arny

I could see credit card companies enjoying this with the cash advance, higher interest rates. So exactly how does this help besides paying more for a product ?

dave

It will push more of us to either pay by check or cash, or unregistered gift cards. In fact for years I’ve used only cash and gift cards to buy any gun related item at all – guns, ammo, magazines, and anything else the Nazis would care to know about. And I try to only use private sales for my guns too. And all those items are therefore ‘ghosts’ – which is what the commies fear most – a weapon they don’t know about and therefore can’t confiscate.

BowserB

You’re right, Dave. I’ve always used a “cash back” credit card for, well…the cash back. Time to change my thinking. Kindof a pain, though, since ATM’s usually have a $300 limit, so you have to go into a bank to get cash. I guess I could just start keeping a stack of $20’s in the safe. If you use a check, the next law will include checks, so U.S. legal tender currency may be your only choice for anonymous ammo purchases.

Tionico

I used my debit/credit card from my credit union last week to buy a pair of $20 slippers from Cabelas. The purchase showed up as Cabelas, category Food and Household. I laughed.

Haven’t bought a gun from them in a long time, wonder if ALL Cabelas purchases list that category? I think the merchant can set up their categories however THEY wish.

nrringlee

Got any good sources on tar? And feathers? It is about time some politicians learned about that.

hippybiker

From what I’ve seen lately, these Democrats are stepping on the Dicks and Tits at all levels of this corrupted system! Hurry up Nov. 2020 is all I can say!
By the way. I didn’t seem to see any REAL Men I the photo! Did you all?

doublecraven

So what’s your plan? And why haven’t you already started?

Big George

That’s because the men are either at work or out hunting! This is what their wives do when they’re away…join a bloomberg/soros group so they can get a free paid trip to somewhere to hold up their professionally pre-printed signs!!

Ryben Flynn

I don’t know how every gun store marks the transaction with a debit/credit card, but from past experience I know if you buy a firearm from Walmart the receipt indicates it was a firearm and so would the credit/debit transaction, but my LGS receipt is marked “goods or services” no matter what I buy with my debit card.
Or just take a cash advance on your credit card and go buy your firearms if you’re worried about it.

Finnky

Paying cash is great for local transactions, but I save 20%+ buying online and shipping to a friendly local FFL. Are you proposing that I drive half way across the country to pay an online retailer in cash? Due to federal law, they would still have to ship the firearm(s) to my FFL to complete the transaction in my state of residency.

doublecraven

Buy a gift card to the store first. Then use the gift card.

Tionico

should be able to arrange an ACH transfer to the retailer. Or get a money order from USPS , WalMart, Winco, or yuor bank. SWIFT type wire transfers typically cost $20 or so, some accounts include them at no extra charge. If this sort of insanity DOES get made into law, two things: watch for the industry to come up with viable work-abouts, and watch underground markets flourish, the very thing that is driving this, but no one will ever be able to atop those sales. If there was a way of stopping off-book transfers now, they’d be doing it.… Read more »

These folks are going to kick off the next Civil War or be damned. They are mindless machines with not a thought of what this could rain down on them and their families if the Virginians decide time to go full throttle.
I am not looking forward to the out come of this debacle.

drderek

True. But let us not forget that a counter motion has begun. Numerous Virginia counties have pledged to be “Sanctuary Counties” that will not abide by the proposed dictates. This is also occurring across other states as well. Perhaps we are finally viewing Americans standing up for the basic principle of self-defense for their families, themselves, their property, and their neighbor. A report yesterday stated that there is an estimated 425 million firearms in American presently with another large uptick in purchases taking place now because of actions like in the Virginian government. There is a major tension growing. The… Read more »

Taxes are debt you didn’t create and bills you don’t owe but if you don’t pay them they will enforce it with force. Guess that makes all of us losers since our forefathers killed the British for .3% tax.

Tionico

our forefathers killed the British for .3% tax. Smurf, you could not be more wrong. The tea tax was NOT why they went to war. Remember the specific ORDER that was given the seventy or so men under Captain John Parker just at daybreak as his men stood in formation on the commons at Lexington? Here it is: LAY DOWN YOUR ARMS ye damned rebels, and DISPERSE. Forty years later one of those seventy men was asked WHY were you men out there that morning? Finnky

@O.Z. – Credit cards do not always equate to debt. Get a card with no annual fee and pay in full every month – no fees, no interest. Just collect their rewards – points, % cash back, air miles or whatever. Well technically you’ve got a minor debt for a month, but you are not “in debt” if you’ve already got the money to pay it off.

RoyD

This is what I do. I haven’t had a balance after the monthly payment for over a decade.

dave

I would like to propose a new place where Constitutional patriots and totalitarian state wannabes can ‘meet in the middle’. That is that gun grabbers find a different hobby, and I promise I won’t let my gun shoot them.

Some guy

If your house was full of roaches, would you promise not to call Orkin if they stay out of your cornflakes? Bet you wouldn’t.

chiefton

Well I don’t believe that you kill roaches with a total spray down of your house. That would not be safe or wise as the potential for collateral damage increases dramatically and that would be very bad. A very surgical and stealth attack on the key roaches would make the others realize that they are not welcome. Unfortunately, roaches are not very smart but are excellent at survival and hiding.

Wild Bill

@Dave, Ah! A cage match. Excellent!

OBloodyHell

Anyone who uses a CC for any gun-related purchase and thinks it’s not getting tracked by Google, et al, and thence totally available to the government — via the NSA if no one else — is a fool.

Cash only. In small bills. Thanks.

Wass

As long as we in the gun rights community continue to play only defense, we will continue to see more of this kind of abuse. For heavens sake, the gun banners support all kinds of perp coddling and convict releasing, not to mention New York State releasing from “life imprisonment”, cop killers. Capital punishment for murderers? Don’t even think of it! Do you see the picture? We have a lot of facts to ram down their their infantile (their real appellation, not liberal) throats. Let’s shout out load, “we are decent people, leave us alone. Punish The Perps!

Exactly… their policies have had absolutely no positive impact on violent crime AT BEST. Statistically, their policies are the type of beaurocratic regulation that EMPOWERS criminals…. the facts are obvious.

Grim

Wexton gets added to the hit list.

JDL

So, the gun stores will just have names like “Chuck”s Candies”, resulting in yet another law that does not work.

chiefton

Go to any store that sells Visa cards and buy it for the amount of your purchase. Use that untraceable card to make your purchases. When it is used up, shred it.

Quatermain

The fact is that cash only transactions do not seem to be impacting the legal cannabis trade anywhere. With all the anti gun hysteria from the big bank CEO’s this might be a way to give them a good dose of reality.

AnotherLEO

That’s one way to look at it. The other way is that many of us have BLED to protect our freedoms and constitutional rights. I’m not going to HIDE or be inconvenienced by their unabashed tyranny. I simply wont do business with any bank or lending institution that doesnt respect constitutional freedoms, just as I wont patronize any business that participates in this crap. @American Patriot Or how about planning ahead and purchasing with cash. If ordering online, use a prepaid/gift card. IMOA, People should use their credit cards and get cash whenever you buy anything gun related and these buffoons anti-gun control BS would be useless.

Joseph Moreno’s statement is just a backdoor excuse to implement more bad gun control legislation and will lead to tracking guns or components and then confiscation when the time comes. “We’re not talking about banning any kind of purchases or a federal registry.” It wouldn’t be long before additional gun control legislation would require banks to turn over their data to ensure none of those people who purchased gun related components aren’t prohibited persons.

Whatzit

All gun control is bad. All of it is unconstitutional.

Ansel Hazen

Cash should be used as much as possible. CC companies get their income from the processing fee of the transaction. So every time cash is used it hits them right where we need to hit them.

Sometimes you have to hold your nose and dance with the devil to get what you need though. I recently bought an upper from a company that would only take a card. So I went out and bought a gift card with cash and used that.

@Possum1500 – Well… If you drink and then try to sleep it off in the back seat of your safely parked car – you can be arrested for drunk driving IF you have the keys to the car in your possession. Finnky

@WB – Thanks for the laugh. Both funny and smart – even armed conflict is at its heart a political fight. We and the country will all be far better off if we can avoid violence while preserving our freedoms. However if violence is necessary, it is far-far better that we are “the good guys”. Let the left start what they cannot finish, let the government do the dirty work – we gain the political might to restore freedoms for all. Love the way you’re headed here!

@WB – Unfortunately, this will not come to pass or if started would be short lived. This is because their strength is only verbal bravado and mask wearing thug gangs, nothing more. They are essentially weak and cowards behind their noise. That maybe, might have worked a 100 years ago but the system has become way to entrenched! No, in order to beat them, you have to play by their rules, even if They suck. Which they certainly do. They think we are all a bunch of uneducated, violent, mindless, Barbarians. That, my fellow gun owners and freethinkers is their Achilles Heel. We must work to use their ignorance and supposed superiority against them!!
It is the only way we will prevail. But you all know that!
