Illinois Gov. Sets Example For Others On Gun, Ammunition Stores

BELLEVUE, WA — -(AmmoLand.com)- The Second Amendment Foundation today applauded Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for including firearm and ammunition suppliers on the list of “essential businesses and operations” that will remain open during the Prairie State’s “Shelter-In-Place” emergency due to the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus emergency.

“When an anti-gun Democrat governor declares that essential businesses include firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for the purposes of safety and security, that is a really big deal,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Every governor should copy the Illinois example when issuing ‘shelter-in-place’ and business closure orders in the face of the Coronavirus.”

Three other states are already under sweeping emergency orders as the nation copes with the Coronavirus pandemic. They are New York, Pennsylvania, and California.

“Depending upon how long this emergency continues,” Gottlieb observed, “many Americans may find themselves facing situations where they will need to be their own first responders. Gov. Pritzker obviously understands this, and we encourage the governors of all other states to recognize this isn’t an issue of party politics but of personal and community safety.”

Executive Order 2020-10 directs all individuals living within the state of Illinois to stay at home, except for “Essential Activities, Essential Government Functions, or to operate Essential Businesses and Operations.”

These include information technology equipment manufacturers and suppliers, hardware, food, cleaning supplies, and “firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for purposes of safety and security,” the order says.

“We are all in this together,” Gottlieb stated, “and we will make it through, together, as well. Stay safe, stay well and stay ready.”

I’m surprised and gladdened by this. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy ordered gun store to close and shut off access to NICS while our governor said guns and ammo are essential. New Jersey has a shitty government.

Some guy

If you waited until now to think about getting a gun, you deserve to be without one.

StWayne

No, Some guy. Now is the time to welcome them back as brothers and sisters in arms!

StWayne

Seems to me he’s taking advantage of the situation to make himself look good every-which-way he can. Oh! Wait. That’s right. He’s a politician.

Ryben Flynn

Where would the police get guns and ammo if he didn’t declare them “essential”?

Dubi Loo

@Ryben, FYI The fat tax bastard Prick ster had nothing to do with gun shops being essential. It’s part of the law that was passed long before he purchased the office. Please don’t think he did anything to help gun owners or gun shops. In fact he added an additional agency and new hoops gun shops must jump through before the fat tax bastard will give them their permission slip to operate. Revenue be damned.

Justista

What about plumbers? He might need the toilets pulled out of his mansions again so as to declare them uninhabitable before tax season.
Keep an eye on this guy, he is as no good as he is rich and fat.

Dubi Loo

@Justista, Perfectly stated!

Dubi Loo

Prick ster didn’t declare anything about gun shops! The language declaring gun and ammo suppliers essential was already in the “emergency powers” law long before the Tax Bastard purchased the Governor’s office. He could not invoke the “act” without that provision. Prick ster has done nothing but advance the hysteria throughout this failing state. Make NO mistake, Prick ster is no friend to gun owners! I love the work Alan does, this time he was a bit off target. Praising Prick ster does not help our cause.

Echeron

I agree with you, he is making it worse, constantly.

Torn

Looks to me like he did state (firearm retailers) were exempt.

Democratic Socialists supported by Bloomberg money are employing a piece meal, state legislature by state legislature strategy. Actively support your state level most pro-2A organizations, especially those heavily engaged in lobbying at your state legislature. First and foremost, defend your home turf. Don’t depend on any national organization to come to the rescue. “Neither the state nor any county, city, etc. can grab your guns by declaring an emergency. Back in 2007, AZCDL was instrumental in the passage of a Senate bill that added a new section to the statutes regarding emergency powers.” Arizona Citizens Defense League Arizona Law ARS… Read more »

Correct. Your local gang of progressives lacks the brain power to create the type of boiler plate legislation that now pops up like mushrooms after a spring rain in legislatures and city councils coast to coast. This is the “Vast Left Wing Conspiracy” that hillary forgot to mention 30 year ago. Leftist billionaires and their foundations fund professional staffs who spread money far and wide to push a New Left Progressive agenda. That agenda includes turning you and yours in to serfs. The thin line of defense is your state level Fundamental Rights organization. I say Fund mental Rights because… Read more »

Better yet, wrap your head around the fact that the only way to eliminate the problem is extermination of the enemy. You can’t negotiate with cockroaches, rats or any other vermin, so what makes you think you can negotiate with democrats?

StWayne

You sir, must have been reading my former posts. I couldn’t agree with you more than if I said it myself. Glad that you are on our side.

Jim

His rants against Trump are insane–and he will kill his state.

PMinFl

I read this differently , we peons must shelter in place…lock ourselves up inside our own homes while police and selected individuals can roam free to get whatever firearms remain off of the shelves. Maybe buy whatever food is re supplied whilst we wait for the “all clear”.

Research the History of this man and his family, they have no interest in helping you except their own pocket books and invested interests. They are the problem…

I wish you wouldn’t have pointed this out for him. It had to be an oversight on his part.

I think he’s worried the virus won’t take as many lives as intended.

Riddle me this: Why would you choose as a government folks who do not trust you, and why would you put your faith in those who have not faith and no faith in you? If you live in a Progressive Utopia you might consider voting with your feet. This appropriately brings to mind the great line out of the movie “Sand Pebbles” when Paul Newman tells his Chinese hooker “Gygene shove off now, long time no come see.” True for China, true for your blue utopia. Paul Newman wasn’t in “The Sand Pebbles”
