Another Massive Gun Grab Bill (Re) Introduced

NRA Capitol
Anti-gunners in Washington never let a good tragedy go to waste.

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- At a time when our nation struggles, everyone’s first and foremost concern is the safety of themselves and their loved ones. However, this doesn’t stop Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) from pushing a massive gun grab bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that would leave law-abiding Americans defenseless.

Rep. Johnson’s bill, H.R. 5717, the Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety Act, is nothing “new” or “innovative” for the gun control crowd in Congress. As we reported on failed presidential candidate and Senator Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) companion bill earlier this year, Rep. Johnson took the same route of copying proposals already offered by his colleagues in Congress and packaged them into one bill with his name on it. Very bold.

H.R. 5717 includes banning semi-automatic firearms like the AR-15, a federal licensing scheme for all gun purchasers, “universal” background checks, unconstitutional red flag laws, and other anti-gun proposals that have already been introduced. These issues should be familiar, as we have been reporting on them throughout the 116th Congress (please see here, here, here and here). These egregious, over-reaching proposals are part of the Michael Bloomberg gun control play book, all of which would leave law-abiding Americans defenseless during a very critical time.

While Rep. Johnson pushes his gun grab legislation, NRA members are seeing troubling trends across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the pandemic, some anti-gun lawmakers have deemed gun stores as “non-essential,” shut down issuance of firearm permits, and, in some locations, they have created extreme delays for background checks required for firearm transfers. Some jurisdictions have even put added restrictions on firearm transfers, making it all but impossible for many law-abiding Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

This is all happening a time when prisons are releasing inmates back onto the streets and putting lives at risk. In Utah, a recently released inmate broke into a woman’s home, threatened her with a knife and demanded her car, cash, bank cards, and PIN numbers. Fortunately, the woman’s son was home and was able to call for police help and she was unharmed.

Whether it is Rep. Johnson’s proposal to disarm law-abiding Americans, or anti-gun jurisdictions shutting down access to lawful self-defense, NRA will continue to fight these abhorrent and unconstitutional actions. During these times of uncertainty, our ability to protect ourselves and our families is paramount.

Hank Johnson – – the man who stated that Guam would CAPSIZE if the Military stationed more men there.

Arizona Don

Every restrictive gun law ever passed by government(s) passed under the pretext of government protecting citizens and yet after passed dozens of countries used those very laws to take guns “from” the citizens and murdered them. During the twentieth century hundreds of millions of unarmed citizens were murdered, throughout Europe and Asia, and buried in open pit mass graves many of which have since been discovered. It is said over a hundred seventy million defenseless citizens were murdered by their own governments (that number may actually be only a fraction of the actual number) after disarming them during that bloody… Read more »

Hank Johnson smartest man in Congress from the Democratic Georgia Plantation.
If anyone is foolish enough to believe the gun banners propaganda that gun violence will go away with the prohibition of firearms applied to ONLY peaceful law abiding citizens, then walk the sidewalks of any city street named after any reverend civil rights leader at 2am and experience the love you will get from the nice folks who you’ll meet . Or you could just try to pump gas at a at any pump in Metro Atl at any hour of the day to feel all that love.

Circle8

Maybe this idiot is worried the weight of a gun will sink Guam and cause it to capsize. What type of brain does the people who elect these fools have anyway? God know he does not have one so I assume people in his district don’t either.

You are too kind to democrats. They have but one object. To subjugate us all. They are a pack of highly odorous low life Communist`s

HR 5717 is a COMMUNISTS’ WET DREAM come true IF it passes. This bill is EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS to ALL FREEDOM LOVING Americans and FUTURE Americans.

Green Mtn. Boy

Tippy,he’s as unstable as Biden the Buffoon.

Remember Rep. Hank Johnson was afraid that the island of Guam might tip over if too many people live there. Yes, he really is that stupid!

Heres the take action link to oppose this legislation, which for whatever reason the majority of these articles still neglect or deem unnecessary to include. Saying “contact your sen/rep” is useless without providing the means to do so.
Thank you FPC, for making these take action links so simple and accessible.

The means to find your legislators and oppose these actions rests under your finger tips. State and city governments have web pages now, and provide widgets for you to enter your address and find your representatives and senators. The FPC, GOA and NRA pre-written statements are great STARTING points, but actually calling and visiting your representatives (whether at their offices at city hall or state capitals or town halls) is essential. Relying on the pre-written communiques as your sole means of contact makes the input far easier to decry as the notions of fringe or radical elements – emails which… Read more »

So now the NRA has jumped on the HR 5717 bandwagon, probably in response to hyperventilating members contacting them after having been fired up by other organizations out to raise money on fear. Fact: In every session of Congress, anti-gun Democrats introduce really bad bills which will never see the light of a committee hearing. Last I saw, HR 5717 only had a few sponsors and had seen exactly zero action. The Dems typically introduce such bills to keep their leftist base happy, knowing they will never pass. Even Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t give this a bill a hearing (yet, although… Read more »

This bill is currently in THREE committees (two regular and one sub): Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce and the Crime Terrorism and Homeland Security sub-committee. Washington state tried an end around using multiple committees. Their similar state level bill was defeated in the Judiciary committee (by a combination of public pressure and the addition by Republicans of many amendments which required further debate and voting – resulting in time running out for the session, thankfully) the bill was then re-introduced as a Budget Committee item by tacking on a nominal or token magazine buy back. The budget bill was… Read more »

Dis guy I know in this Soprano State sez, – because of actions like this, – it’s time to “go to the mattresses.”
Too bad; “violence is such a big expense.”

gunnerdd517

I agree with author. Law abiding citizens would line up to turn in their guns. I WILL NOT COMPLY !

Doszap

If this passes it’s they who are the NON LAW abiding, and they who should be imprisoned or worse.
YOU CANNOT pass LAWS that ARE ILLEGAL to Federal LAW and the CONSTITUTION first and foremost, anyone trying to enforce these laws are to be disposed of as fast as possible.

UNDER “COLOR” of law is the KEY.

Great…Then we can all become criminals with no fear of going to jail, I could feel like a democ-Rat!

When the nation is concerned with a pandemic, Democrats are concerned with attaining greater power. “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.” —Majority Whip James Clyburn

Terry

You know it would seem to make more since, than wasting valuable time, to have the supreme court review some of these proposed laws prior to going through bot to simply throw out those that are non constitutional before a lot of time and energy is expelled on them.

Finnky

@TLS – That would provide no incentive for grabbers to refrain from throwing out “stuff”. They would just write millions of proposals so that SCOTUS could not do anything else, in hope that something evil would slip through. Better to imprison legislators who vote for bills if bill is ever declared unconstitutional.

The rest of us police ourselves, congress need to do the same.

A couple weeks late on this article, it has been extensively covered by every YouTube gun channel already.
