gcm,
Are you surprised?
If Biden bans the importation of ammo (like PMC), what do you think will happen to the price of domestically manufactured ammo?
I agree:
JSNMGC…If in fact all of the gun sales are new owners the demand is going to stay high for awhile .
Both of my statements were prefaced and conditioned with “if.”
I believe there is only a small probability that either scenario will occur.
The price of Vista Outdoor stock was trading at $8 to $10 prior to June 2020. It is now trading at about $36. The market believes demand will stay strong for quite some time.
@ JSNMGC I propose we start contacting the manufacturers and point out that by selling ammo to the government they are promoting the demise of their own industry. Ask them to divert all sales of ammunition to the private sector.
I’m not buying ammo at these prices, but I understand why other people are doing so. Less than 30% of the revenues of the Winchester operating segment of the Olin Corporation for the nine month period ended 9/30/20 were from military/LE. Vista Outdoor does not disclose their revenue in a similar way, but based on their other disclosures, it looks like an even smaller percentage of their ammo revenues are from military/LE. I don’t own any shares in the Olin Corporation or Vista Outdoor, so I’m not going to try and tell them what to do. My biggest fear is… Read more »
JSNMGC…My biggest concern is bLIEden will try to nationalize these manufacturers under the guise of providing for our military . I wouldn’t put it past these tyrants to declare martial law then try to confiscate all guns and ammo .
There are a number of people who post here (who view themselves as “conservatives”) who would approve of nationalization and prices established by the government. Then they would get what they deserve – good and hard. Unfortunately, the rest of us would suffer as well. This has played out time and again. Each time, people want the government to remedy their petty little grievances and then they find themselves in a totalitarian dystopia.
JDT thinks the ammo companies should be guilty of violating some law. Old Reloader wants a federal agency to do an investigation to do . . . something. Big-Government-Terry wants price controls. Many others want somebody to do something. When asked about specifics, none of these people ever explain their idea and how it would work. The market decides the price at a given point in time. That price can’t be changed – it’s just a matter of how it is allocated: Manufacturer Wholesaler/Distributor Retailer Random guy with a gravy-stained camo shirt and unshaven neck who re-sells ammo he purchased… Read more »
Hell, I’ve said for years that Republicans love socialism as long as it involves things they want. Medicare, social security, price controls for things they feel they need, etc..
I find it funny that the people who are supposedly against big government sure like to call on government to solve their problems.
Some of the pleas for pricing mercy are downright cringey.
Ansel…While you are at it . Suggest that they relocate to gun friendly states . Their employees could move with them and we could use more gun friendly voters .
I don’t know if its the manufacturers or the distributors or some unknown middle-man, but a 300% increase in price to the consumer seems to be pretty close to price gouging.
Is there a Federal Agency that can investigate this? ……The Federal Trade Commission perhaps?
And, oh yes, the term greedy bastards is justified.
Best regards.
Old Reloader.
Old Reloader,
What do you want the US government to investigate – who is making the most increased profit – the South Korean manufacturer or Brownells?
Ammo suppliers and retailers are apparently a bunch of clowns, who aren’t funny.
Longeno,
What do you propose?
That is a rational decision.
“Starters” implies further action. What do you propose?
So much for price gouging during a time of crisis being illegal. I guess that was only meant for shit wipe? Gun industry is nothing but a bunch of greedy fuckers.
JDT,
What do you propose?
NO!
Just another Biden – Covid 19 GOUGE don’t buy ammo at these ridiculous prices and encourage these greedy basturds .
