U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Governor Laura Kelly has vetoed two pro-gun bills that were previously passed with an overwhelming majority from both chambers of the Kansas Legislature.  Both measures will head back to the legislature where your lawmakers will vote to OVERRIDE Governor Kelly’s veto.  It is imperative that you contact your Lawmakers and ask them to OVERRIDE Governor Laura Kelly’s Veto of House Bill 2058 and House Bill 2089.

Proposed by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, House Bill 2058 does the following:

    • Recognizes all out-of-state concealed carry permits, and allows those who have been licensed to carry a firearm for self-defense, to do so lawfully in Kansas.  This legislation recognizes that visitors to Kansas should not be left defenseless simply by crossing a state line.
    • Allows individuals who are 18 to 20 years of age to apply for a Kansas concealed carry permit.
    • Authorizes the Attorney General to issue an alternative license to carry a concealed handgun to qualified applicants during a declared state of disaster emergency.
    • Creates a Restoration of Rights process for individuals to reestablish the Second Amendment right to possess a firearm upon expungement of certain convictions.

*****

Substitute House Bill 2089 directs the state Board of Education to establish grade-appropriate curricula guidelines to teach firearm safety to K-12 students, based on NRA’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program, and/or the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks & Tourism’s existing Hunter Education In Our Schools. Individual school district boards are to have the choice whether they wish to provide gun safety education under these standards. This gives the flexibility to school boards and parents to decide what gun safety education is appropriate for their communities and school children. Developing these standards by drawing from proven, existing programs results in cost savings for the taxpayers.

Again, please contact your State Senator and State Representative and ask them to OVERRIDE Governor Kelly’s Veto of House Bill 2058 and House Bill 2089.

Since the majority of democrats seem to want gun control laws and the majority of republicans seem to want no gun limited gun laws, I have a suggestion for a compromise. Make it illegal for democrats (and their hired security, if any) to possess any firearms and leave law abiding republicans alone.

Just one more reason to regret the 19th Amendment.

i don`t give a crap what anti-gun laws are passed or signed into law by low life wannabe napoleon politicians. they only have the power we allow them to have. if some state elects those type of so called leaders, then those voters better step up w/petitions,bill boards, whatever. but deal with it. get creative.

I don’t know her reasoning for this, but I can think of a few reasons why I wouldn’t sign it. Opening *your* state to the criteria to possess a firearm of *another* state doesn’t always mean you’re getting the most responsible people wandering around your state. You may be responsible, but would you bet your right to possess on someone else you don’t know? We are the United States, but we are independent states first (thankfully). 75 years ago I would’ve agreed that we should allow 18-20 year-olds to apply. Today, not so much. If the antics of today’s youth… Read more »

Your first bullet point is bogus. They want to allow only persons from another state, who have a concealed weapons permit from their home state, to carry. Concealed permit holders from any state are known to be some of the most responsible gun owners in the country.

You don’t have a clue as to what you have to go through to get a CCC permit, Different states require different testing to be certified for them. I have two, one in Pa and the other in Mo, Pa recognizes military and some other training, Mo, doesn’t honor any military, you have to take an NRA Safety and qualify on the range to get their CCC, so don’t spout about Loose guns coming into Kansas from other states with permits!!!!!!!! In answer about 18-20 year old’s I would go for advanced training but not forbid them not being able… Read more »

you are wrong on all three points.
first of all, like CwC said, only people with cwp’s from another state would be legal, others not.
second, why shouldn’t legal age adults be allowed to purchase and carry firearms? they can do everything else an adult can.
thirdly, once you have paid your debt to society (prison, restitution, etc) you should have all your rights restored.

Typical brain dead polytickshun pscychopathic control freak that lacks in reading comprehension. Apparently her oath of office isn’t worth a crap because she can’t understand four words…SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Oh wait…this all has to do with PERMISSION from the psychopathic control freaks to carry a gun for protection. Which shouldn’t exist in the first place. Maybe she’ll surprise everyone and say, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED means NO F**King PERMISSION from control freaks.

I have a different place to put it but it requires an upward motion.

They need all 84 Republicans to override as that is the 2/3 of the 125 needed in the House. The Senate needs 27 of the 29 Republicans to override.

We should have never given them the “right” to vote in the first place, let alone take office.

You know it is really bad to say that but so many times I agree. There are very few women that support the 2nd amendment and most go under the touchy feely rule regarding things instead of using logic but we do have a few out there that do deserve our support. I think today’s women are changing and their strength isn’t so much about women’s rights as much as it is about peoples rights but the majority are not that way.

She did that for the same reason Kristi Noem of South Dakota did. She knew that would open the state up to crippling lawsuits that the state doesn’t have the money to defend against.

She did that like Noem did for the same reason: neither woman has a spine and was not willing to protect the girls and young women of their States from predation by the mentally ill transgender bunch!

Cheers from the oil patch in Central Wyoming
