The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association backs the repeal of the pistol purchase permit. The pistol purchase permit was created before modern, computerized background checks existed. The federal NICS checks that licensed firearms dealers conduct are often completed in minutes. North Carolina’s court system finished furnishing mental health involuntary commitment records to NICS in 2019, ensuring that it can do thorough checks. This relic that is the pistol purchase permit, now only serves as a time barrier, an unnecessary fee, and a general inconvenience to the exercise of the Second Amendment.

Senate Bill 687 was also previously filed in the Senate to repeal this permit.

Again, please contact your state representative and ask them to SUPPORT the amended HB 398.

With all the firearms being snapped up today, imagine how much money they get to process a pistol permit? They do the first of two BGC’s to purchase on you and then the dealer does the second one.

Pistol permits sound an awful lot like residual Jim Crow laws. They should have been gone a long time ago. You do not need a permit or need to pay a tax to enjoy an enumerated natural right.

Permission slip to buy a gun is like your doctor giving you a prescription for regulated drugs. Buying drugs is not right, but buying a gun is a right.

Or a permit to hold Bible Study. Assemble for Rmamdan or a Sedor. Or publish a pamphlet advocating the elimination of permits to publish pamphlets to eliminate permits to publish pamphlets to eliminated permits…………………. Enumerated natural rights. Listed in the Bill of Rights. Granted by God, the Author of All Things. Defended by government and the People. If government fails to defend those rights that particular government is no longer legitimate.
