Texas Gov. Abbott Signs NRA-Backed Constitutional Carry Bill Into Law!

Texas officially signs constitutional carry into law. IMG NRA-ILA

U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- All of our hard work and persistence has paid off!  Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1927, NRA-backed constitutional carry legislation authored by Rep. Matt Schaefer (R-Tyler), into law.  The historic bill signing fittingly took place at the Shrine of Texas Liberty — the Alamo.  Thanks to all your emails and calls to state lawmakers, Texas becomes the 21st permitless carry state in the nation, and rights have been restored to law-abiding Texans who wish to protect themselves and their families outside the home.

NRA issued this press release upon the governor’s final approval of this landmark legislation.

House Bill 1927 does not affect previously issued Licenses To Carry and allows those who still wish to obtain a license in order to carry in states recognizing Texas permits to do so.  It does not allow anyone prohibited under state or federal law from possessing a firearm, to carry a firearm.  The new law will take effect on September 1, 2021.  For more details and FAQ on the provisions of HB 1927, please click here.

Governor Abbott sent out this news release after he signed the monumental bill into law.  Please thank Governor Abbott for demonstrating his strong commitment to, and support for, your Second Amendment rights in the Lone Star State.

The unprecedented success that Texas gun owners achieved this legislative session culminated in Governor Abbott not only putting his signature on HB 1927, but also approving the following NRA-supported bills:

  • House Bill 1500 prohibiting government officials from shutting down firearm-related businesses during a future disaster;
  • Senate Bill 19 restricting companies which discriminate against the firearms industry from obtaining contracts with state and local governmental entities;
  • Senate Bill 20 allowing hotel guests to transport and store firearms in their rooms while traveling; and
  • Senate Bill 550 removing the requirement that a holster for an openly carried handgun must be a belt or shoulder holster.

Special thanks go out to HB 1927 bill author, Rep. Matt Schaefer, who spearheaded the effort on constitutional carry and worked tirelessly to pass the measure this session, and to bill sponsor Charles Schwertner for navigating this critically important legislation through the Senate.

House Speaker Dade Phelan and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick prioritized these key measures and their leadership on Second Amendment issues made this a groundbreaking session for law-abiding Texas gun owners.

Dear NRAHQ, No one cares what you ‘back’ until you dismiss WLP and get your house in order. You have made yourself and unfortunately by extension, your members irrelevant.

The sight of the skunk , li’l wayne La P u , detracts from the acheivement the people who actually worked to enact these 2nd amendment protections accomplished.

Cant wait til james puts him in prison.

Yet another case of the NRA coming in after the fact and trying to take credit for the work of others. The only thing NRA can legitimately claim credit for is LaPierre’s abuse and criminal behavior.

Is the skunk , li’l wayne La P u , gunna run up to colorado and stick his ugly grifting mug in front of the camera, and have the nra-ila crow about how much they did to stop the 3 anti-2nd laws being signed there ?

Hello….wheres Harold and the nra bragging about that ?

H A R O L D……..??

The NRA, Texas Republicans, and Abbott all refused to support and push for the two true constitutional carry bills that died in committee. Now here the NRA is acting like they actually did anything to get this compromised carry crap signed.

Yep, according this KABUKI it would be “Constitutional Carry” if we could only “legally” carry in 1% of Tx. It’s not even carry if you can’t carry, let alone CC. “The new [‘Constitutional Carry’] law bans Texans from carrying in bars, sporting events, prisons, civil commitment facilities, state-run hospitals & nursing facilities, and amusement parks. [AKA ‘Gun-Free’ Zones]…gives businesses the ‘right’ to bar the public from carrying [AKA ‘Gun-Free’ Zones]…Class C misdemeanor to carry into a business with oral or written notice that carry is prohibited. [AKA punish the innocent for adding to public safety by ‘violating’ ‘Gun-Free’ Zones]…lets employers ban… Read more »

But it IS “Constitutional Carry” for k1llers in “Gun Free” zones, right up until they start sh00ting.

TRUE. Sorry you can’t see my reply. More censorship by a “moderator”.

Pathetic censorship of comments by NRA toadies.

This “Constitutional Carry” gives businesses the “right” to bar the public from carrying. Class C misdemeanor. In other words punish civilians who add to public safety by “violating” “Gun Free” Zones. Lets employers ban employees from possessing. Bans carry in amusement parks, sporting events, bars etc.

How many defenseless innocents must perish before “gun free” zones are banned?

It’s permitless carry, not Constitutional Carry.

But it IS “Constitutional Carry” for murderers in “Gun Free” zones, right up until they start shooting. It’s an improvement, but it ain’t CC. In 1791 there were few “GF” zones like the El Paso Mall. “CC” ratified “GF” zones & penalties, enabling massacres to continue & gun grabbers to say “CC doesn’t work”. The recent surge of “CC” has a kabuki angle. Iowa passed it after their federal delegation helped Pence certify The Big Steal & put a gun-grabbing junta in power. Result: “They gave us CC so they MUST be conservatives! No need to primary anyone!” With Abbot’s… Read more »
