From $35 a 1000 to $95 for a 1000 , ya it’s a Ben Dover deal that will put you and your wallet in rectal pain
Hard to believe that I bought these primers two years ago at half the price. Who is getting all the profit?
THE COMPANIES !!! They are TAKING ADVANTAGE OF US ! Like All OTHERS !
Nope, Biden inflation on top of Biden inflation. Cost of all components up and affected by bottlenecks. Labor up and affected by government mandates. Cost of transportation up and affected by government regulation driven truck driver (no pun intended) shortages.
Our own people buying by the pallet load and reselling the ammunition and components on gun broker. Every time we buy from them, we cast an economic vote for higher prices.
Biden inflation at every level and niche.
Nope. Most of the price increase from late 2019/very early 2020 is still due to incredibly high demand. Supply only increased moderately due to: High cost of property/plant/equipment; High cost of hiring/training additional people; Uncertainty over future regulations; Recently increased taxes; Uncertainty over future tax increases; Uncertainty over future demand (demand fell dramatically in 2017 and stayed low in 2018 and 2019 as compared to 2015/2016 levels). If demand decreased dramatically, prices would likely be less than 20% higher than end of 2019 prices. The secondary market you referenced is an example of the effect of demand: even if manufacturers… Read more »
If it is all demand, then we could all just stop buying; the price would come down due to lack of demand; and then we could all buy at low prices, again. Blame your fellow shooters … have it your way then.
I wrote that most of it is demand. I indicated that the price would decrease significantly if demand decreased significantly. I don’t “blame” anyone (other than those people who drive increased regulations and taxes and/or who advocate for government intervention). If people (shooters and non-shooters) bought significantly less primers (as components and incorporated into cartridges), the price of primers would decrease. Demand for ammo, primers, and powder is extremely variable. There was plenty to be bought at lower prices in 2017, 2018, and 2019. As much as I would like to see lower priced ammo and primers, I don’t want… Read more »
I agree. It would be hard for all the new gun owners to resist, even at these prices, because after all,you need something to shoot and train with. To all of us with stashed ammo, waiting for the upcoming rebellion, we could always just spend a couple hundred $ and pick up a Mantis X and practice with that. That would be cheap compared to paying a buck a round for anything.
Yes, dry firing, too!
I am glad goobernment gave us tons to practice with but not all is what i like to shoot. price of 50 is down (not many people will lay out 8-15gs for a gun ) but primers are hard to come by .2.99 delivered is cheep but i like my own load better than theirs and ranges frown on api
wow people hate a lesson in economics. did you learn in school or life?? required course in military university so
“did you learn in school or life??”
Both.
I don’t compete but I love to shoot on the range. At the current prices and shortages; no matter the reason, I’m drastically reducing my purchases and time on the range. They can keep their products at the prices they’re advertising. I will be spending my dollars on the water fishing. I can eat what I catch, but even the tightest group I shoot puts nothing in the freezer. My components are going to hunting and self defense purposes only.
More than half? Reloading component prices have gone up about 500% in ten years. I stopped reloading common ammo because of this. I only reload harder to find ammo that I own guns that use it. But now, I can’t find small pistol primers anywhere that are not jacket up in price. Same goes with .22 ammo. They are trying to sell bulk crap for the price of Eley match.
glad I bought 22 when price doubled 50 years ago bought a pallette still plink off that , some of you will remember it went from 1/4cent to a 1/2 cent per at same time surplus 3006 went down
Every time components makers buy materials, they pay tax. Every time an ammo maker buys components, they pay tax. Every time end users buy ammo they pay tax. And corporations pay corporate tax. Tax on top of tax on top of tax all passed along to consumers. It is the taxing authority that is getting all the profit and they don’t do a thing to earn it.
You nailed the problem to many of life’s problems in the USA, TAXATION. Repetitive taxation should be illegal. Penalty should be harsh. I wonder what the founding fathers would do about it ? lol
First, they would have a tea party!
dump all your ammo in my truck I dont mind
they dont pay tax on materials as they are not final user, they do pay an import tax if they bring in lead or brass you know toxic substances to epa obummer really screwed us there and the pittman tax the money that goes to hunting Im all for: the epa stuff is just a grab
Just say “NO” to price gouging!
If I said no. I wouldn’t have what I do now. Was I happy about the price ? Not at all. But I noticed if you want it. You better just bite the bullet. I’m starting out reloading so not much of a choice for me. Unless I don’t want to reload. lol
You call this a deal? You’re outa your frigging mind!!!
Biden inflation.
fjb/lets go brandon
Don’t forget… add $27 for the Hazmat fee.
No “F”-ing way Brownell’s! Price gouging S.O.B.s! If this is the way they treat their customers now, it’ll be a cold day in hell if I ever buy anything from Brownell’s ever again in the future.
second that, their prices were always high worse now,
I could get a 5,000 primer case for less than this just a few years ago.
full case for 84$ sometimes without hazmat , or no hazmat if you bought $500 still have a ton of pistol but out of 50bmg
WE ALL NEED >> SMALL PISTOL PRIMERS << !
AND IT WOULD BE “PATRIOTIC OF MFG.’S ” TO DROP THE >
PRICE GOUGING !!!! CAN’T TELL ME IT COST DOUBLE TO MFG. THESE PRIMERS! THEY ARE TAKING ADVANAGE OF THE PEOPLE ! VERY
“UNAMERICAN OF THESE MFG’S ” !!
Why the caps? Normal people use “normal” font.
You answered your own question……………
“VERY ‘UNAMERICAN OF THESE MFG’S ‘ !!” ~ Ronnie America is largely defined by being a constitutional republic with a (somewhat) free market based on capitalism. You have complained many times about capitalism. What is your suggestion? Would you like government intervention, like Bernie Sanders advocates and as totalitarian governments have imposed around the world? You are not a victim – you are a market participant. Other participants are outvoting you – they value primers more than you do. If Federal charged less for their primers right now, the retailers would almost certainly keep their prices the same (and increase… Read more »
I dont get the down votes ,people dont get this is not an altruistic endeavor. It does show that these manufactures have no belief in helping others ,so if they get in trouble no quarters . we help those that help others and let drown those that take advantage
Did shooters step-up in 2017 and buy to keep demand up when the threat of Hillary as president went away? No – their buying decreased dramatically and ammo manufacturers were stuck with excess capacity. The manufacturers didn’t have an expectation that consumers would continue to buy out of some sense of loyalty. They took steps to mitigate the decrease in profits.
It’s how a (still somewhat) free market works and the alternative is much, much worse.
Demand for ammo in the U.S. is incredibly volatile.

It would be Patriotic of the mfr’s to stop delivering product to any agency connected with the rogue government we currently are dealing with. They are the ones most able to send a powerful message to these tyrants if they were to divert their shipments to the private sector.
Vista Outdoors (The owner of Federal and many others), announced record profits Q4 2021 of 52.2% over projection. Estimated Q1 2022 is close to 94% increase. So this might be some of the answers to the price increases. We are a captive market with few choices, pay the piper or go without.
they talk out both sides, the reason primmers are stupid expensive they want to make same money whether you load it or they do. have been making my own primmers , boy does that slow down reloading
There are a number of choices: Olin, Vista Outdoor, Hornady, Black Hills, Nosler, PSA, PMC, Fiocchi, Prvi Partizan, and others.
They are pricing to market – just like most industries do in a (still somewhat) free market.
Demand increased dramatically in a short period of time and prices increased.
If the manufacturers charged less right now it wouldn’t change the retail price.
Do you have a suggestion?
