Wisconsin –-(Ammoland.com)- “This bill, the Firearms Freedom Act, sends a simple message to the federal government: Wisconsin will not help you take away our second amendment rights.” – State Rep. Michael Schraa (R Oshkosh)
Dear Gun Owner: The Wisconsin Firearm Freedom Act has been introduced.
And the gun-haters are practically coming apart at the seams, frothing with anger.
You see, they don’t like being on the defensive. They simply don’t know what to do when we gun owners assert our rights.
The bill – LRB 2036 – would make it illegal for any local or state law enforcement officer to carry out orders from a federal mandate to restrict magazines or other firearm accessories or types and amounts of ammo in your possession.
And it would make it a crime for any state official to carry out federal gun confiscation orders here in Wisconsin.
Right now LRB 2036 is being circulated for cosponsors. We need as many legislators as possible to sign on as supporters.
This legislation is an important safeguard for Badger State gun owners. It’s also a bold reaffirmation of states’ rights as a deterrent against federal gun control.
But it will not be easy to pass. Too many spineless republicans in state government are afraid to back a bill that will give meaningful protections to gun owners.
Already anti-gun Attorney General Eric Holder is trying to bully the state of Kansas for passing a similar law, claiming the Kansas law is “unconstitutional” under the supremacy clause.
However, the supremacy clause does not invalidate local or state laws that are in conflict with federal laws — it says that laws that are in pursuance of the Constitution are supreme. This clearly means (inversely) that local and state laws most certainly supersede unconstitutional federal laws.
And last time we checked, gun confiscations, magazine bans and ammo restrictions are all unconstitutional.
To allocate resources for this fight I need to ask for your help. We’re already fighting gun control here at the state level. And preparing for the renewed attack on semi-autos and so-called “high-capacity” mags by the Obama administration.
But even with all of this going on, I am confident we can pass the Wisconsin Firearm Freedom Act, with your help.
I’m going to be laying out the action plan for this legislation in the coming weeks.
Please do what you can to support WGO so we have the resources for a full grassroots mobilization to pass the Wisconsin Firearm Freedom Act.Sincerely, Corey Graff Executive Director
WGO works for grassroots gun owners, not politicians. While many gun lobbies fight for “reasonable gun control,” WGO sets a higher standard: Defining the terrain of pro-gun political battle. Sure, many groups claim they’re “pro-gun” – all the while they provide cover for anti-gun deals cut by politicians – but only WGO truly informs gun owners, remaining committed to a 100% pro-gun position. We oppose all gun control – regardless of the political party – and work tirelessly to restore the Second Amendment. Visit www.wisconsingunowners.org
