Covington VA --(Ammoland.com)- Fauquier County is considering a new noise ordinance that would have a ridiculously low threshold.

The ordinance would affect target shooting and hunting, because if someone could merely hear a shot in their house, they could file a noise complaint!

The Fairfax Wildlife Club is concerned for their Friday night Turkey Shoot fund raisers and for shooting on their range at any time.

If you live in Fauquier County, you can contact your Board of Supervisors member by phone or email to object to the ordinance not exempting gun shots caused by target shooters and hunters.

If you shoot or hunt in Fauquier, you should contact the Board of Supervisors members, too.

The Board of Supervisors is taking input during a 90-day comment period. Let’s be sure to give them plenty of input!

Here is a link to the contact page:

There will also be a chance for public comments at a future Board of Supervisors hearing on the ordinance. I will provide more information on this when I have it.

      I was just wondering if Shrek should go and find out if that is where Prince Charming finally ended up at.

    3. By the same token if I hear my neighbor so much as fart I can file noise charges?

      The only information I could find was on their website and it said the proposed law ….

      …changes the threshold for a violation from unreasonable noise to plainly audible and discernable noise from inside a fully enclosed neighboring dwelling or business and includes many exempt activities;

      No data on what is “exempt.” It’s an overly broad proposal. It basically says if you can hear something inside your home (presumably with the windows open) you can file a complaint. That would include car doors, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, power saws, hammering nails, drills, music, talk radio, parent calling their children for dinner, etc. etc.

    5. Every noise I hear in my neighborhood does not mean that something or someone is out to get or hurt me and my family. Between planes, cars, trucks, motorcycles, dogs, cats, children, lawnmowers, weed eaters ect. and yes, I even hear a riffle shot every once in a while.

      I am very tired of the government trying to remove every right I have to live free. stay out of the peoples personal business. we have the right to bear arms and own property without government interference. The noise ordinance is just another way to take our rights to the 2nd amendment away. No more government! Too Big! WE will vote you out very soon. sick of it all!!!!
