Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On Sunday morning Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree (D) suggested Mississippi’s allowance of open carry without a permit contributed to the deaths of Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate on May 10 2015.
During an interview on Fox and Friends, Dupree suggested there is no longer any such thing as a routine traffic stop because of how easy it is for law-abiding citizens to carry a gun.
Dupree said:
Mississippi just passed, last year or a couple of years ago, a concealed weapons law where you can carry your gun outside without a license. And now, this past year, they passed one where you can have it concealed in your purse or your briefcase [without a permit]. You know, people just have to be, police officers have to be real vigilant now.
Dupree referenced concealed carry again later in the interview, saying: “For whatever reason we’re passing some kind of laws I don’t think are good for our country.”
Dupree is right on two things:
- In 2013 Mississippi lawmakers passed legislation allowing open carry without a permit and Governor Phil Bryant (R) signed it into law.
- In 2015 Mississippi lawmakers passed legislation for permitless concealed carry in bags, brief cases, etc, and Governor Bryant signed it into law.
But Dupree is exceedingly wrong in politicizing the deaths of officers Deen and Tate by suggesting these laws had anything to do with the deaths of officers Deen and Tate.
Two suspects arrested in the officers’ deaths–Marvin and Curtis Banks–are felons and therefore barred from gun possession, period. They cannot possess or carry in any way.
The concealed carry laws in Mississippi apply to law-abiding citizens and were relaxed to help Mississippians more easily carry for self-defense because criminals–including felons–continue to possess and carry guns, laws be damned.

Liberal Judges that let felons out early , liberal judges that don’t enforce the maximum sentence. Liberal ATF Agents that don’t enforce felons attempting to purchase firearms. Liberal legislators that blame law abiding citizens , to further fascist socialist government agendas.
Just shows he is either an enemy of the Constitution , really ignorant or lover of criminals and making victims of us for bigger government. Any way he needs to get out of the office he occupies , a waste of oxygen.

traffic Stops stopped being routine years ago before ant law change because criminals were carrying firearms. end the end the analysis will show that these two criminals were able to get the jump on the cops. So the next time a cop approaches your vehicle and sizes you up as if you might be a threat keep in mind most cops are killed in these traffic stops.

LEOs have ALWAYS had to be vigilant, and typically are, since they know the person they stop may NOT be a “law-abiding” citizen, as most of us are. Thee is not, and has never been, any threat from the law-abiding citizens, whether they carry openly or concealed. This threat came from 2 felons who were already not allowed to carry or own any kind of firearm. How can anyone associate gun laws with felons, they do not mix (oil & water). Take away all the guns from law abiding citizens and the dirt bags will still be shooting Police officers and anyone else in their way.
Another big mouth excuse making Dem O Rat applying his 2 cents worth. Maybe if a Law abiding gun carrying citizen was in the area, he may have joined the gun battle and returned fire from the cops side. These killers we call “nothing to lose Guys” they are not gonna be taken down without a fight to the Death. And there are lots of them out there with illegal Firearms that are either stolen or bought on the street illegally . Just the kind of animals the Politicians dont address.
