Who Stole My Cheese?

Cheese
“Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbor, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning,” Leviticus 19:13.

Milwaukee, WI -(AmmoLand.com)- Fifteen years ago, right after I married my wife Janice, my overtime at my job was cut.

When I asked for a raise, or to have my OT re-instated; I was told to put my wife out to work. I was determined that the Moral Order isn’t going to change, but rather I was going to find a new employer. I have never put my wife out to work, and I went on a job search.

During that search, I was told by many people that I should read a book called, Who Moved My Cheese? An Amazing Way to Deal with Change, written by Spencer Johnson MD. This book extolled the virtues of a global economy in which jobs are transient. The author tried to equate people with laboratory mice running through a maze, trying to find the cheese that they had become accustomed to, after someone had moved it. This book was a puff-piece to those who would tell you that instability is a blessing.

After reading Spencer Johnson’s book, I concluded a better title would be, “Who Stole My Cheese?” (This concept was used by Ilene Hochberg, who wrote a parody called, Who Stole My Cheese?) There are several things Spencer Johnson’s book didn’t emphasize:

  • Starting a new job is hard work, one must learn to do things the company way. There is the right way, the wrong way, and the company way. However you did things at your old job, that was then and this is now.
  • Starting over means starting at the bottom. When you start a new job, you start at entry-level pay. You also start at entry level benefits, for example vacation pay and holiday pay are accrued by seniority. Even the cheap substitute for vacation pay, known as PTO time, is earned at a higher rate upon the accrual of seniority. Thus, to continually start over is to continually be at the bottom. Some opportunity.

While mere complaining is counterproductive, fighting for the ability to provide for one’s family is indeed a noble cause. The idea that people are equated with “pet mice,” or “lab rats,” is even more degrading than equating people with Pavlov’s dogs. (I had a supervisor who stated he trains workers the same way he trains his dogs, and he wonders why everyone wants to slap him silly.) The workman is a man made in the image of God, (Genesis 1:26-27) and our Lord was a carpenter before He entered the ministry.

Now, to answer the question, “Who Stole My Cheese?” The short answer is your Federal Government. Our US Constitution, in Article I, Section 8, paragraph 1 provides for Congress to “lay and collect” duties, imposts and excises, which are generally referred as a revenue tariff, which keeps American money and American jobs in America.

The revenue tariff is based on a reading of Matthew 17:24-26. Your federal government stole “your cheese,” when it stole your job, and it used your tax-money to ship it overseas.

I was laid off by a Cargo Air Carrier , they set up a job with a subcontractor to do the same work for less money. I told them GFY . A week later their New 747-8 sat for a week because the idiots couldn’t read the central maintenance computer and determine which flap sensor was faulty. Lost a million dollars revenue over a $72k a year job. I can and do make $75/hr fixing cars and trucks for myself. The airline lost one of the most intelligent maintenance people ever. Their loss not mine , if they were on… Read more »

N8: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other” – John Adams. Put that in your pipe and smoke it…..

This was a waste of my time. Religion has absolutely no place in politics.

I suggest the author of this piece change the title to: ‘Who Cut the Cheese” as it was a real stinker. The Federal Government, for all of its faults, does not ‘steal jobs’. Instead, it PRODUCES way, way too many jobs…..
