Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- “Since politics is the “art of the possible,” it appeals mostly to second-rate minds. First-rate minds are interested only in the impossible. This is why we have brilliant scientists and industrialists, but only mediocre politicians” ~ Anon

In 1865, the British Parliament passed theLocomotive Act,” also know as the “Red Flag Act.”

It required that all trains on the island, freight and passenger, never exceed four miles per hour while in the countryside. A two mile-per-hour speed limit was imposed in built-up areas. Even then, a flag-man was required to precede the train by fifty meters as a warning to pedestrians and wagons alike.

This relatively new steam technology was feared by politicians (who fear all new technology), because like all politicians, they were deathly afraid it might be corrosive to their political power and their ability to “control” the population.

As always, the welfare of citizens, and of the civilization, was the last thing ever considered!

Highly educated” detractors (the same academic charlatans who promote “ global warming” today as a method for holding back technological progress) assured the public that thirty miles per hour (the speed of the fastest horse) was all the human body could withstand. Acceleration to greater speeds, we were solemnly warned, would surely be fatal!

Today, we have the opportunity, through our new Administration, to reverse this same “fear-oriented” attitude toward modern guns and our Second Amendment that has been cynically promoted for decades by dread-mongering leftist politicians, all in an effort to separate citizens from new technology.

Their attitude is the same as that of British politicians a century and a half ago, who were so fearful of emerging railroad technology of the era. Modern weapons in the hands of “ordinary” citizens frightens leftists as does nothing else. You can tell from their contemptuously self-righteous rhetoric!

“Who never compares his notions with those of others… often thinks himself in autarkic possession of the Truth, when he is only fondling an ever-putrefying error, long-since exploded!” ~ Samuel Johnson

Is it statistically true that a gun in the home is more likely to be fired at one of the home’s residents than it is at an intruder?

Oldshooter

No, it is not. That alleged fact stems from a debunked “study” published in the New England Journal of Medicine years ago. The sample was very biased, for example, the average number of police visits to their homes was more than once a month. The folks included were by no means “regular citizens” – how many times have the cops been to YOUR house? Also 68 percent of the time when a gun WAS fired in the home, it was used to defend against an assault by an abusive spouse. Consider: If, as such a statistic were true, it would… Read more »

Thank you.

Long answer: Google / Yahoo / Bing “Kellerman Study” and you will get many links to many articles to read about this flawed anti-gun study. In short, many articles tearing the flawed study to shreds far more logically outshine those that try to uphold such obvious nonsense. That early 90’s “Kellerman study” is where that false statistic comes from. The whole study has been so thoroughly debunked so many times that only the usual leftist liars – who unfortunately rightly assume that most people will be too ignorant of facts and figures to know any better – keep trying to… Read more »

I was having a far-ranging discussion in my local coffee house the other day, when the owner allowed that she didn’t trust our government, or the American “military establishment,” or the police. So I pointed out that, if I didn’t trust the government, military, or police, I certainly wouldn’t them to be the only ones who are allowed to be armed. Therefore, I posited that she must be in favor of an armed public (OK, I knew better, but I couldn’t resist seeing how she’d handle the obvious conflict). Well, sure enough, she also didn’t trust civilians to own guns.… Read more »

Yes, well, many in the progressive community lack the capacity for logical thought.

A third line as food for thought about anti-gunners. Some general truths – with “general” meaning that although there may be exceptions and even perhaps plenty of them, _generally_ these truths hold true far more often than not.) . 1: A liar will always be quick to assume you and/or others are lying. Its just part of how people who routinely lie and deceive have to operate, and they project this thinking onto others. This is a tip for those who routinely have to deal with someone often disbelieves and acts as if you are not telling them the truth.… Read more »

Progressives (and others) who claim to be anti-gun are liars. They are happy to have guns in the hands of our benevolent overlords, but will not trust their fellow citizens with them. They will seldom admit it, but they feel the same about the vote and the common citizen.

ya’d almost think they wuz royalty er sumpin like….. the way they look down their noses and insist on control and regulation at every turn.

That was King George Three’s problem. And his cure.. as the renegade Yankees decided they’d had done with his meddling. His bid to disarm them, rendering them full slaves, was the tipping point, the red line in the sand past which our forbears would NOT let themselves be pushed.

Let the present control mongers continue to press and we SHALL see a repeat.

And yet, this attitude is still the rule when it comes to reloading ammunition. I have been called a Genius and a Demon by those who don’t understand and refuse to open their eyes and minds. But then throughout the ages it has always been so with most human endeavors.
