Ft Collins, CO –-(Ammoland.com)- “I choose not to be a ‘common’ man. It is my right to be ‘uncommon.’

I seek opportunity, not ‘security.’ I do not wish to be a ‘kept citizen,’ humbled and dulled by having the state ‘look after’ me.

I want to take the calculated risk; to dream and to build; to fail or succeed: to daily breath the blessed air of freedom. I refuse to barter incentive for a dole. I prefer challengers of life to ‘guaranteed existence,’ the thrill of fulfillment to the calm of ‘utopia.’

I will not trade freedom for beneficence, nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cower before any master, nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to audaciously stand erect, proud and unafraid, to think and act for myself, to enjoy the benefits of my creation, and to face the world boldly and say:

‘This I have done’” ~ Anon

You can’t be free, so long as you have your hand out!

You’ll never experience fulfillment when you’ve traded your dignity for a pitiable government dole, when you filch off the productive labor of your fellow citizens, while contributing nothing.

This incentive-killing “parasitic existence” is relentlessly promoted by leftists/Socialists in Europe and Socialists, masquerading as “Democrats,” over here. Their only goal is the maintenance and expansion of a permanent “underclass,” forever dependent and unproductive, that keeps them in power. And, it is sounding death bells for all of Western Civilization, begun by our courageous ancestors in ancient Greece who threw-off the bondage of slavery so many centuries ago.

Now, leftists are inviting us all to become slaves once more. They want to “bring us together” into common bondage!

Just as these Socialists are deathly afraid of audacious, productive, and independent citizens, they are even more afraid of us when we’re armed! How can they presume to “take care” of us when we’re convinced that we don’t need them?

We finally have a president who does not cater to losers and who does not suffer seedy prevaricators, and liberals are having to reluctantly confront the disturbing fact that some of us don’t want to be slaves.

They’re scared to death!

“I prefer dangerous liberty to peaceful slavery.” ~ Thomas Jefferson

Me too!

That statement makes you a native Uncle Tom. Beware native Uncle Tom, your white, so called friends only tolerate you because you agree with them. The moment you have a disagreement with them you’ll be just another drunk Injun to be mocked and loathed. Ever hear the right say anything nice about native Americans? No, because it never happens.

And yet – today – another state fell to unconstitutional citizen disarmament laws – once again – upheld by the court.

oldvet….Is that what TS stands for? I was thinking more along the lines of “Too Stupid”.

TS

It’s garbage. Enough with the pathetic attempt to intellectualize it. You really think that liberals want to enslave you? It starts to go downhill as soon as Farnum adds his own words, or rather the tired old spin words of the far right–only appealing to disaffected Walmart Republicans who think that all the evils of the world are caused by welfare mothers. This tripe is about being against welfare and keeping gun rights. That’s all. All the slavery references and picture of shackles is a insult to the people who actually did have to endure the real horrors of slavery… Read more »

TS….has anyone ever told you that you’re a imbecile? Never mind…..stupid question. I imagine more times than you have the ability to count.

Gil

Because mild infringement on White mens’ perceived rights is the worst kind of slavery.

Wild Bill

@Tripe Spiller, First, the people who actually did have to endure real slavery have not been alive for about a hundred years so how could they be insulted. Second, the first slave owner in North America was a black fellow, who accepted another black fellow as payment for a debt. That began slavery in North America. Third, More white people suffered slavery in North America than black people. But it was called indentured servitude. Davy Crockett was indentured. So race has nothing to do with slavery. And finally, any mild infringement on a Civil Right is the first step in… Read more »

Put down the crack pipe, Old Bill, you senile old F***
Sooo, white people were the real victims of slavery in this country? Riiiight! If you really believe that, you are just too stupid to talk to. If you don’t believe it you will pay the price when you stand before God. What a useless, disgusting waste of space you are. No f88king moral compass.

Patrick Sperry

Contrary to a couple of the comments above. This is a pretty good primer about the working philosophies of two of the primary forms of governance in the world today. One might be called philosophical Libertarianism, and the other Authoritarian Despotism. There are indeed different forms of slavery. Physical, emotional, and mental to simplify things, and of course combinations thereof. At least that is what my research paper addressed back in the days before things such as spell check, and grammar check existed. My paper received an grade of A-. Due to a couple of sentence fragments and a spelling… Read more »

Utopianism works on both sides of the fence. The leftist socialist utopia is the perpetual, economically impossible free lunch where Peter always pays for Paul: a social welfare utopia. The right’s utopia is a limited constitutional government where the government and its police state have been handed all the (big) guns and decision making power: a warfare utopia.

BikerDad

Bob,

Where is this paradoxical “Right” of which you speak? A limited Constitutional government would, by definition, NOT be a “police state.” Nor would it have all the decision making power. Perhaps you are confusing two different flavors of leftist totalitarians. The “let your freak flag fly” libertine, until it comes to Big Gulps, tobacco, GMO foods, etc, etc, socialist left, and the buttoned down (in public) fascist left. Note that BOTH are police states, they just SELL their starting points differently.

Gil

Why? Because you’re not allowed to shoot people dead when you want to?

Wild Bill

@Gil to whom are you addressing?

Mike Murray

No thinking person “wants” to shoot someone, but there are times when shooting someone is what a person MUST do. Gil needs a good course in use of force.

Stupid, provocative article that trivializes the horrors of slavery. More and more typical of Ammoland these days. Need a few new editors. Your credibility is in the toilet.

Wild Bill

@Trivial Socialist. If you want different editors, I don’t think that you will find them here. Why is this article “provocative”, in your opinion?

oldshooter

For TS: I found the article to be fundamentally “smart,” not in any way “stupid,” although I agree it is provocative – of course, provoking thought and a desire for personal independence was obviously its intent. I don’t find the provocation to be something negative in this case. But “trivializing the horrors of slavery?” REALLY! How did it “trivialize” anything? To what specific “horrors of slavery” are you referring, the mundane specific indignities of daily life as a slave, or the fundamental underlying issue of making some humans “non-persons?” Do you believe it is better to live as a slave,… Read more »

Patrick Sperry

Well spoken Sir!

JoeUSooner

If you consider this article (this subject) to be “stupid,” JOHN’s credibility is not the one in question.

Gil

There weren’t any “horrors” other than you couldn’t leave your employment. The “wage slavery” movement was based on the fact that slaves had it better than the lowest level free workers because at least a slave owner had a business interest in keeping slaves healthy.

Mark

There are many kinds of slavery….. It is also a horror to lose one’s autonomy by having it regulated by another, most often for the benefit of another. Egalitarianism is not the “equal” mentioned in the Declaration. the freedom our Founders risked their lives for. Egalitaianism (equal outcome) destroys freedom because it also abdicates personal responsibility. I would rather live in a community of individuals than a pseudo community of the collective who are enslaved by the PC dictates of those who are arrogant enough to think themselves elite. Remember that Irish males were captured and sold into slavery in… Read more »

Sad. Ownership of the common man has been written about to you for 5000 years. Refusing knowledge and historical fact puts your credibility at serious risk. Not in a government regulated toilet, but in the trash bin. Free men ask nothing of another. I ask not but one thing. Admit that I don’t own you, and you don’t own me. Voting for someone else to govern is an abrogation of your inherit freedom, a sign of weakness and an assault on your neighbors. Government is a system of bondage, enforced by force and coersion that has no equal in a… Read more »

@S F, What was the writing from 5,000 years ago that you are referring to?

sean

Written history going all the way back to Sumer, in Mesopotamia.

Archeologists found that was the first time an organized ‘government’ was using it’s power to catalog it’s ‘serfs’, fortunately we don’t have that today.

We’re free as a bird.

Lynyrd Skynyrd says so.

“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery” This is actually a translation of a Latin phrase that Thomas Jefferson used: Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem. It has also been translated as, “I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.” Here is the sentence in context: “Societies exist under three forms sufficiently distinguishable. 1. Without government, as among our Indians. 2. Under governments wherein the will of every one has a just influence, as is the case in England in a slight degree, and in our states in a great one. 3. Under governments of force: as… Read more »
