Washington, DC – -(AmmoLand.com)- The House Judiciary Committee held hearings on banning AR-15s and other semi-autos today.

GOA was there at the hearing. But note that there won’t be a vote in the committee today.

So we will continue to monitor this legislation and let you know when a vote is coming.

But the Senate currently presents a more imminent threat.

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be voting on Chuck Canterbury, who is the President’s pick to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Canterbury headed the Fraternal Order of Police and articulated several anti-gun positions during his tenure there.

Go here to add your name to the pre-written letter which urges your Senators to vote against Canterbury as the new ATF head.

This pick to lead the ATF represents another troubling nominee, who has been selected to fill an important position in the administration. Earlier this year, we warned Republicans Senators that Attorney General nominee William Barr had a long history of supporting gun control, including semi auto bans. We pointed out that since Democratic Senators were routinely opposing Trump nominees like this, as few as four Republican Senators could vote “no” and sink Barr’s nomination.

Unfortunately, the Senate confirmed Barr. And so now Barr is roaming the halls of the Senate pushing the central legislative goals of the Bloomberg/Giffords anti-gun lobbies. Cleaning up this mess has become massively more difficult than if Senate Republicans had done the right thing from the start.

Now, we’re in exactly the same situation with the nominee for the ATF head, Chuck Canterbury.

Canterbury had led an organization which supported Universal Gun Registries.

He supports “red flag” gun confiscation orders and has indicated he is open to supporting a ban on semi-automatic firearms — the so-called Assault Weapons ban.

So please add your name to the pre-written letter urging your Senators to vote against Chuck Canterbury as the new ATF head.

Thank you so much for taking action!

In Liberty,

Michael Hammond
Legislative Counsel

P.S. Please distribute this alert to your pro-gun family and friends and urge them to take action.

Any one or any thing associated with the BATFE is unconstitutional by its/their very nature. How could anyone be director of such a shameful, abusive and criminal organization NOT be a POS?

No way in hell should law enforcement be involved in these “Civil Matters.” In these so called “red flag” situations, rarely has a law been broken. Yet LEOs are ready willing and able to use deadly force against folks who have broken no law! Every Officer involved in such situations has seriously violated their oath of office and must be dismissed from the force immediately!

Red Flag Law is an assault on the US Constitution in it’s inception. If the SCOTUS gives any government official authority the bypass due process, than it’s unconstitutional. If we make existing law that makes enforcement of validated and warranted threats, than it’s essentially just streamlining existing law, and I’m all for it. But for the record “Red Flag Law” as the Democrats intend it, is bovine excrement. All this talk by the Dem candidates to confiscate guns needs to result in the ousting of them and their associates permanently by any means necessary. (per Article VI) American citizens do… Read more »

I don’t have any problem with Red Flag laws provided that due process is strictly adhered to. That means a hearing before a judge with the owner present and represented by counsel prior to any actions being taken to confiscate weapons. None of us want a mentally impaired person carrying and none of us want unnecessary harassment of firearm owners. Thus, if you bring a false charge against an owner, you must pay all costs associated with the accusation. As a part of any acceptable Red Flag law, there must be clearly defined means and methods of quickly returning the… Read more »

Why dont you people just continue to stock up, enjoy what little we have left of 2A and quit trying to fight the Beast and his system and when they do finally come for all of your property, legal property, that you paid for, protected by a document that means shit to them, then decide if you’re willing to die for it or not. Us dying in a very loud and public way is the only thing that will stop what they’re doing. All the pleading and talking and letter writing isnt the way. Remember, they hate people being killed… Read more »
