Today, the Vermont Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing H230, “an act relating to implementing mechanisms to reduce suicide.” This dangerous anti-gun bill violates Vermont citizens’ Second Amendment rights by implementing a slew of anti-gun laws. This bill includes a laundry list of gun control measures including “Red Flag” laws, mandatory 72-hour waiting periods, and “safe storage” laws.

NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are urged to contact committee members and request that they oppose all anti-gun measures. Please contact committee members NOW and ask them to OPPOSE ALL anti-gun bills that would place further burdens on law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen!

  • H230 implements “Red Flag” laws, or Emergency Risk Protection Orders, that are designed to empower the government to confiscate Americans’ firearms without due process of law. Aside from allowing run-of-the-mill malicious actors to indulge personal grudges against law-abiding gun owners, in the current politically-charged environment these laws enable the government to target those with First Amendment-protected political views the government disfavors.
  • H230 delays Second Amendment rights by imposing a three-day waiting period before an individual may receive a firearm that they lawfully purchase. There is no evidence that waiting periods reduce violent crime or suicide. Instead, this simply denies someone the ability to buy a firearm for urgent self-defense.
  • H230 includes “safe storage” laws aimed at implementing a top-down government mandate telling you how to store your firearms. While we support storing firearms in a responsible manner, we do not support top-down one-size-fits-all government mandate. As NRA’s safety materials explain, “Many factors must be considered when deciding where and how to store guns. A person’s particular situation will be a major part of the consideration.”

Again, please contact Vermont committee members and urge them to OPPOSE any and all anti-gun measures that will do nothing to reduce violent crime in Vermont, and will only burden law-abiding citizens!

This illustrates that when it comes to gun rights in America, there are no safe places. Till not too long ago, Vermont was regarded as the epitome of gun rights; no license needed. But migrants of the “liberal” persuasion moved into the state big time and transformed what was called, “The most Republican state in the union”, in John Gunther’s bestseller of the ’40s, “Inside USA”. You can never take the gun control movement seriously enough. They have eyes even on Arizona and Texas.

Straight Up Bullshit… Nothing more…Nothing less. Having known several people who killed themselves. 2 used a firearm. 2 also drove their cars in front of trains. ironically at the same train crossing. 4 people in the area, in the last year have killed themselves by walking in front of trains. Does that mean we should outlaw trains, tracks and train crossings? 1 hung himself. While a best friend tried to hang himself, but was found by his parents and saved. Should ropes be outlawed? Human behavior, both good and bad can not be controlled by legislation or laws. “Nothing is… Read more »

We need ” red flag ” laws for politicians who violate thier oath . Instant removal from office without due process and see how the clowns like that.

This from Vermont, which was, for many years, the only state you could carry a handgun without a permit. It’s a damned shame they’ve been overwhelmed by NY refugees besring liberal ideologies.

Really now, it would make more sense to simply make it against the law to commute suicide (with a gun).

It would make as much sense as anything they are suggesting

The statist mindset knows no boundaries. The answer to every problem (whether it exists or not) is: more government; always more government. There are those statists who fear and see more government as the way to assuage their fear. Then there are the statist elites who see more government as their ticket to more wealth and more power. Both types of statists have the same answer: more government, less liberty, less freedom and they have no qualms about the government killing, imprisoning, or destroying anyone, to accomplish their goals.

The Marxist cancer spreading from NY, CT, and MA, has taken over the once great, beautiful and free state of VT. It is on it’s death bed because no one caught it in it’s early stages. Is New Hampshire next?
