Wednesday, the California Legislature was up to their usual tricks, “gutting and amending” a bill of a completely different subject matter to push for more gun control. The latest effort is Assembly Bill 1587, formerly legislation pertaining to the Health and Safety Code dealing with multifamily housing, which has been amended to now require credit card issuers to use specified merchant category codes unique to firearm and ammunition retailers. This is one more attack on law-abiding citizens that continues to put more restrictions and regulations on law-abiding persons and businesses while ignoring the criminal element. As California continues down this path, Idaho, Mississippi, and Texas have passed laws this year banning such efforts to track gun owners. AB 1587 has not been scheduled for a policy hearing at this time but we anticipate it will be scheduled soon.

Stupid wast of time since in California you can’t buy guns without registration or ammo without a permit and record keeping by the retailer. Credit card companies can send the information to California’s Department of Redundancy Department.

gutting is not even close to what they did with this bill. they literally struck every word in the housing bill and replaced them with firearm merchant codes to track every purchase someone makes.
