The National Rifle Association (NRA) celebrates a significant victory today for Alaskans and the Second Amendment. Governor Mike Dunleavy has signed House Bill 61 into law, marking the first major pro-Second Amendment legislation passed in the state in the last decade. This comes ten years after House Bill 24, the “Stand Your Ground” law, which Governor Dunleavy supported by voting ‘yea’ in his first year as a state senator, was enacted on April 11, 2013.
House Bill 61, championed by Speaker Cathy Tilton and backed by the NRA, is a groundbreaking law that safeguards the rights of firearm businesses and gun owners during states of emergency. The bill prohibits state and local government entities from closing lawful firearm businesses or restricting individuals’ access to firearms, ammunition, and component parts during declared states of emergency. The bill passed with bipartisan legislative support, and its Senate companion was carried by Senator Scott Kawasaki (D).

I especially liked NRA’s “me too” attempt to jump on the pistol brace rule fight, after a stay had already been issued. It’s easy to win every war if you wait until the winner has been decided before joining.
Much as I want the NRA to become an ally, I do not feel that way. Each article I read with distrust, hoping to be relieved when I finish reading. Just before I read this article, I read another that said the NRA was not supportive with Texan’s open carrying under their 2014 law and supported an earlier 1967 law in California on open weapon prohibition. They need to clean house and make a statement about their past shortcomings.

Another useless law that doesn’t work like it is claimed to. All the next Democrap/Communist governor has to do is not declare an emergency for a few days during which his thugs can raid peoples’ homes and steal anything they want to along with their guns and ammo. This law should say that government has no authority to regulate firearms or ammunition at any time including times of emergencies. You have to watch the wording, folks. The commies will get around any law unless it is concrete in favor of the Constitution and the peoples’ rights.
