JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — U.S. District Judge Brian J. Davis has sentenced Charles David Mobley, 50, of Lake Worth, to two years in federal prison for making a false statement to a federally licensed firearms dealer in connection with the acquisition of a firearm. Mobley entered a guilty plea on April 4, 2022.

According to court documents, special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) identified Mobley as a potential black-market firearms dealer after law enforcement recovered several firearms purchased by Mobley in connection with separate criminal investigations.

Undercover ATF agents subsequently engaged in five different straw purchases from Mobley between July 2021 and August 2021.

For each purchase, Mobley went to federally licensed firearms dealers, bought firearms requested by the undercover agents, and falsely certified in ATF paperwork he was purchasing the firearms for himself. Mobley subsequently provided the undercover agents with the purchased firearms. In total, Mobley straw-purchased nine firearms for the undercover ATF agents, some of which had large-capacity magazines attached.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David B. Mesrobian.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

I don’t know about you, but I feel so much SAFER knowing this person is being raped in a prison somewhere! It makes me tingle all over. That’s what happens when SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED is INFRINGED.

For the sake of freedom, the entire DOJ needs to be stripped of the political hacks, their power, and restructured in such a manner that it acts as an advisory board for state prosecutors.

If the government can have a firearm and the man with a ‘federal license’ can have the firearm then Mr. Mobley shouldn’t even have to have been involved. It is Infringers making up Infringements and then deceptively manipulating someone to not go along with the made up Infringements so that the Infringers can pretend they are the good guys, not anti-Constitutional domestic enemies of the US Constitution and justify another round of funding to keep their jobs of Infringing. When Mobley gets out I hope he shows the Infringers what Infringing can actually look like when done with moral authority… Read more »

The AFT claims guns this man bought were recovered in criminal investigations. What type of crimes were committed with the guns. If someone had been killed that would have been the headline. It’s more likely the guns were found in possession of people who were prohibited for non violent offenses that shouldn’t disqualify a free person from exercising their rights.

Logician

So, EXACTLY, just how is what he did a crime? Oh, he bought some GUNS for others? So what? The ATF is a corrupted and criminal organization and so is the legal system, so pray tell, where are the REAL crimes being committed? Do I think that criminals should have easy access to guns? No easier than you or I do, no harder either! There are many men and women who are just totally enamored with the pretty gold plated iron chains on their wrists and ankles, and it’s difficult to get them to want to take them off! They… Read more »

The catchy sign says ” Don’t lie for the other guy, buy a gun for someone who can’t, and by yourself 10 years in jail”. And yet, this guy made nine straw purchases and got 2 years in jail. Yet another slap on the wrist.

Raconteur

I was looking at this in another conversation. How many people have actually done federal jail time for straw purchases, since the inception of the NICS? As I recall, as of about ten years ago, it was 7 (seven).
