The Naive Won’t Survive, Are You One?

Opinion

Naive Assumptions:

Last Thursday’s nationwide cell phone disruption is by now “old news” and lasted only a few hours, yet when service was restored, 911 centers were instantly flooded with calls (for hours afterward) from panicked citizens who were wondering if emergency services were still available!?

Many Americans have merrily done away with landlines and now depend entirely on cell phones. More are going this route every day.

Yet, when cell service tanks (which it definitely can and did), these people will be unable to summon emergency services.

When cell phones are dead (and/or 911 centers are hopelessly overloaded with anxious callers), it is up to the individual citizen to confront and unilaterally deal with:

  • 1) Medical emergencies
  • 2) Fires
  • 3) Violent home invaders

Patient stabilization, as well as “load-and-go” transportation to the nearest ER, becomes a critically necessary capability.

“High-capacity” fire extinguishers on site are also obligatory

Heavy firepower (including “weapons of war”) falls in the same category.

Thursday’s cell phone disruption represents an important warning:

Those who naively assume that emergency services are always “just a phone call away” are kidding themselves, dangerously!

Ham radio, CB radio, GMRS, MURS radio with GPS. 2 years of dried food from Mountain house, water filter system, water iodine tablets, solar, battery and gen power, lots and lots of ammo and fishing gear, vehicles always full, rotate the 55 gallon drum of gas and diesel every two months.

Phone company here broke the land lines putting in a fiber optic cable and declined to fix them. So no landlines here even if you want one. A bit out of town has no cell service except satellite. No land line, no cell. If Elon decides to cut off satellite, no phones at all there.

The whole planet is susceptible to one major issue. One that could literally wipe us out. Solar flares. And from what I’ve read, that is what caused the issue. They may CLAIM that isn’t what caused it, but since they LIE about most everything, how do we really know? Powerful twin solar flares erupt from sun as cell phone outages spike across US (video) I guess it is just a CO incidence that those twin flares happened at the same time. Don’t you think?

Captain Obvious isn’t telling anyone on this site anything they didn’t already know. Sorry, but this short “editorial” was pointless.

Mr. Farnam only touched on the tip of the iceberg. We all need to do two things. First, get rid of the cell phone. Second, start putting constant pressure on our supposedly elected representatives to harden the grid. My family don’t use cell phones (one bout with cancer was quite enough, thank you), but the landline network was abandoned and ripped up years ago in our area. Our only phone is VOIP, through our ISP. During power outages, all those services go down, wouldn’t work even if I had a generator. The mountain of evidence linking cellular and WiFi to… Read more »

A prime example of people going completely off the rail happened in 2021 in Iowa. When the deracho hit. Cell and internet service was lost over a large part of the state. People were losing their minds, because they couldn’t make calls, check their Facebook or Instagram. People were driving 50+ miles just to do so. Many weren’t prepared for when utilities being went offline and grocery stores were closed. Some for up to 3 days. Not a lot has changed or was learned from the experience, in the 2 years since. Most people have forgot the experience and won’t… Read more »

Damn shame the home invaders coming through my door won’t be able to use their cellphones to call 911 for medical services.
