In the latest film by Stoeger, “Chasing White,” we follow a group of dedicated hunters on their DIY snow goose hunting adventure in Arkansas. This yearly tradition, fueled by the Light Goose Conservation Order, sees these hunters waking up at 3:00 AM to lay in the mud and chase snow geese. If you’re into snow goose hunting, you know it’s not for the faint-hearted—it’s a passion that borders on madness.
The Essence of Snow Goose Hunting
Hunting snow geese isn’t just about pulling the trigger; it’s about the camaraderie, the preparation, and the sheer determination of the hunters. Every year, this crew gathers in February to hunt snow geese in the farmlands of eastern Arkansas. Their days are long, running on adrenaline and caffeine, setting up massive decoy spreads, and enduring harsh weather conditions. The motto here?
“No plugs, no limits, and no sleep.”
Stoeger M3500 Snow Goose Shotgun

The Hunt
A typical day starts before dawn, with the team assembling and setting up their gear without a wake-up call. Each member knows their role, whether it’s setting up the decoys, working on frames, or scouting for the best spots. The crew sets anywhere from 600 to 3,000 decoys, a laborious task that’s crucial for a successful hunt.
The weather often adds to the challenge, with frozen fields and the need to use four-wheelers to transport equipment. Despite the grueling work, the moments when everything aligns are magical. Seeing the geese come together and swirl in the sky is an experience like no other, making all the hard work worth it.
The Grind
The journey to a successful hunt involves more than just shooting. It requires knocking on doors to gain permission to hunt on private land. This aspect of the hunt can be just as challenging as the actual hunting, as it involves persistence and good communication skills to secure access.
The Chaos and the Rush
When the stars align, and the geese start to flock, the chaos ensues. The hunters, amidst the noise and frenzy, prepare to take their shots. The excitement is palpable, with geese flying in from all directions, creating a scene of pure hunting adrenaline. The hunters live for this chaos, the moments when their hard work pays off, and they can experience the ultimate waterfowl hunting adventure.
The Experience
Snow goose hunting isn’t for everyone, but for those who love it, it’s an unparalleled thrill. The film captures the essence of this passion, from the early mornings to the late nights, the hard work, and the fleeting moments of triumph. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most challenging pursuits are the most rewarding.
“Chasing White” is not just a film about hunting; it’s a tribute to the dedication and passion of snow goose hunters. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or new to the sport, this film offers a glimpse into the relentless drive and camaraderie that define the world of snow goose hunting.
So gear up, embrace the chaos, and join the hunt.
Considering the war on straight, White, christian males globally, I’d be more interested in a movie about that… But Hollywood would never make a movie exposing that.
Tastes like flying liver , fun to shoot but not too eat. No thanks !
Bill Clinton was once asked did he supported the 2A? He responded “certainly, I’ve always admired hunters”.
Ok, I hate to sound stupid, but, I hope they eat the goose or give them to people that would eat them and I can only assume that since they really have no way of knowing who hit what goose that they just count them up and divide them equally amongst themselves for those who want them.
If I was a land owner, they would have to give me some goose cleaned and ready to freeze or cook to get my permission but we would both win.
