Scott City, MO — A Scott City, Missouri, homeowner took care of business (TCB) on Saturday, August 24, 2024. when a man kicked in his back door in the middle of the afternoon, resulting in the intruder’s timely death.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. when the Scott City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a burglary in progress. According to the homeowner, the intruder, later identified as Jason L. Vermillion of Scott City, kicked in the back door of the house. Rightfully fearing for his safety, the homeowner used a handgun to confront the intruder.
Upon arrival, police officers, along with first responders from the Scott City Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, found the homeowner, who led them to the scene of the shooting.
Officers immediately began life-saving efforts on Vermillion, who was subsequently transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Despite these efforts, Vermillion was pronounced dead (DRT) shortly after arrival.
Scott City Police Chief Christopher M. Griggs confirmed that the department investigated the incident as a potential homicide but found the homeowner’s actions to be in self-defense.
Chief Griggs stated, “At this time, we are not seeking charges against the homeowner. The evidence indicates that he was acting to protect himself and his property.”
This case demonstrates the importance of the right to self-defense, especially in situations where individuals feel threatened within their own homes. The homeowner’s swift response prevented what could have been a more dangerous situation, highlighting the necessity for responsible gun ownership and the ability to protect oneself in the face of immediate danger.
The Scott City Police Department, with assistance from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, continues to investigate the incident, but as of now, no charges are being filed against the homeowner in this obviously justified home-defense shooting. This incident serves as a reminder of the legal right to defend one’s home and family from potential threats.

To all those people who say that the death penalty does not deter crime. I present exhibit A.
First paragraph of the article; I really do like your writing style!
Screw that criminal A$$hole!!! Good riddance! Score another one for population reduction.
Our hero should get TAX FREE STATUS FOR LIFE AND THE KEYS TO THE CITY for a job well done.
Saved tax slaves millions in prosecution and incarceration costs, saved fellow citizens from future predation and saved idiot judges the embarrassment of one of their precious criminals re-offending
Indeed the home owner did just that “TCB” and took the trash out at the same time .
Not doing law abiding gun owners any favors showing an execution style picture.
Let me quote a Wizard of Id cartoon from years back.
Man standing at gallows about to be hanged:
“Capital Punishment does not deter crime.”
King of Id:
“I’ll believe that when I see you again.”
Lesson 101 on capital punishment.
