In a strange and unsettling incident in Dearborn, Missouri, a homeowner shot and killed a man who attempted to force his way into their home on the morning of September 18, 2024. The Platte County Sheriff’s Office reported that the intruder, identified as 37-year-old Joshua C. Hinderliter, displayed erratic behavior before the deadly encounter.

The incident began around 9 a.m. when Hinderliter, partially clothed, arrived at the residence on Masonic Drive. According to the homeowner, Hinderliter prayed to a horse before suddenly attacking the family dog. The homeowner, fearing for their safety, called deputies and tried to manage the escalating situation. When Hinderliter attempted to break into the home, the homeowner acted in self-defense and shot him.

By the time law enforcement arrived on the scene, Hinderliter had been fatally wounded and was found dead at the entrance of the home.

As a precaution, nearby North Platte High School was put on lockdown for about an hour. Once authorities confirmed that the incident was unrelated to the school, the lockdown was lifted, and students resumed their regular activities.

While the incident remains under investigation, the situation appears to be a clear case of justified self-defense, with the homeowner protecting themselves and their property from an unpredictable and violent intruder.

Clearly, Mr Ed did not grant Hinderliter success in battle, as requested.

Our hero should get tax free status for life, a new gun, ammo and the keys to the city from a grateful public.

Saved tax slaves millions in trial, housing and medical costs. Saved judges the trouble and embarrassment of releasing the dirtbag to prey on your wife and children.

Saved society having to wait FOREVER for justice!

I’m sure that the temporary closing of the school was now documented as a school shooting.

Having grown up in rural Missouri in the 60s and 70s it was necessary to take situation like this into your own hands and deal with them accordingly. The nearest law enforcement was at least 30 minutes away. My father shot a criminal stealing gas from our garage one night. Blasted his ass with 12 gauge #8 shot from about 100 feet away. When the sheriff finally got there about an hour later the thief was gone and he told my Ol’Man the next time if you happen to kill him be sure to carry him in the house. We… Read more »

I’m in a similar living situation. On weekends, there are two county sheriffs who patrol an 800 sq mile county. I’m in the unincorporated section of the County, which means that they are the only ones responding to a 911 call. In a real emergency, it might be better for me to call 911 Fire Department. They have a response time of around 20 minutes. Luckily there are plenty of powder powered hole punches available in my house and surrounding buildings.
