In a developing story out of Onslow County, North Carolina, a man was shot and killed last Monday morning in what authorities are investigating as a domestic-related incident. Colton Bush, 28, was found inside a home on Bear Creek Road with multiple gunshot wounds. Bush later succumbed to his injuries at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene shortly after midnight on October 7th, 2024. They confirmed that Bush was under an active Domestic Violence Protective Order and was not a lawful resident of the home where the shooting occurred.
Bush’s criminal history shows a conviction in Onslow County last year for violating a protective order.
He also faced pending charges for breaking and entering to terrorize, domestic criminal trespass, and simple assault. It remains unclear if the shooter, whose identity has not yet been released, acted in self-defense.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
While the Sheriff’s office has yet to release further details, the situation highlights the potential consequences of violating protective orders, FAFO, and the possible use of firearms in self-defense during domestic disputes. Pro-gun advocates are likely to view this case as another example of the importance of the Second Amendment in protecting oneself and one’s home.
As the investigation continues, many women in similar circumstances within the community will be watching to see if this incident is deemed a justified case of self-defense, a right many Americans hold dear.
