VA Homeowner Defends Home Against Violent Intruder in Fairfax County ~ VIDEO

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — In the early hours of Wednesday, a Fairfax County homeowner was forced to defend his home and family when a man attempted a violent break-in. The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on Oakwood Drive near Lake Barcroft, a normally peaceful neighborhood that was disrupted by the sound of gunfire and police sirens.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), the homeowner contacted police after noticing an intruder trying to force entry into his residence. While waiting for the police to arrive, the homeowner, who was on the line with 911, reported that the assailant persisted in his attempts to enter the house.

Left with no other choice to ensure his and his family’s safety, the homeowner used his firearm, shooting the intruder in the upper body.

Responding officers found the suspect with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The preliminary investigation revealed that the same man had assaulted another individual at a nearby home before attempting the break-in, escalating the concerns of area residents.

John Fishwick, a criminal defense attorney and former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, affirmed that Virginia’s Castle Doctrine provides robust legal backing for individuals defending their homes.

“In situations where an intruder poses a serious threat, residents have the right to use force to protect themselves and their loved ones,” Fishwick explained.

This legal protection emphasizes the sympathy that judges and juries often have for homeowners forced to take defensive actions under threat.
