FORT WORTH, TX — A 37-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday morning after breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in northwest Fort Worth, leading to what authorities are describing as a case of self-defense.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded to a call about a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2900 block of Watermark Drive, near NW Loop 820, around 11:30 a.m. on February 9. When they arrived, they discovered the body of Michael James Andree on the third-floor landing.
Investigators say Andree had forced his way into the apartment and waited for her to arrive to “confront” her. He then confronted his EX-girlfriend and another man as they were entering the home.
The man accompanying the woman, whose identity has not been released, pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at Andree, hitting him at least once.
Andree was pronounced dead at the scene, and police have confirmed that no arrests have been made. The shooter is cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
Texas law allows the use of deadly force in self-defense, especially when an unlawful entry occurs. This incident appears to fall within the state’s well-established Castle Doctrine, which protects individuals who defend themselves, their families, and their property from intruders.
