“We must move at the speed of relevance” ~ U.S. Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson.
Big talk, but scant change!
Our new Secretary of War is aggressively emphasizing “The Warrior Ethos,” and inspiring all our troops to embrace his way of thinking:
Everyone who serves must be individually ready to defend themselves and our nation, instantly and enthusiastically, with lethal force when necessary.
It’s about time!
Indeed, isn’t that what armies are for?
I love the rhetoric.
Yet, the most recent fatal armed attack on two of our uniformed National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C., by a lone Islamic terrorist, unfortunately, reveals that little has changed at the base level.
Pray tell, why aren’t all US military commissioned officers and S/NCOs now required to carry pistols (in an appropriate state of readiness for instant personal defense), concealed or openly as the situation warrants, all the time, but particularly when deployed in uniform in high-crime, metro sewers, like Washington DC, Chicago, etc?
Why did a major in our Army National Guard, while on active duty in Washington DC, have to resort to using a pocket knife to defend himself and his troopers against an armed, AA-shouting, Islamic terrorist?
Why aren’t all our officers and S/NCOs taught how to, and expected to, continually carry issue pistols, round chambered, instantly ready to fire? [and Donald Trump promised to, “mandate that soldiers remain armed and on alert …”]
Isn’t that what all these pistols the Pentagon ordered are for?
Americans deserve to hear honest answers to these questions.
It appears that the very notion of loaded firearms and ammunition, in a continuous high state of readiness and in the hands of our military personnel, still frightens the snot out of our senior brass.
Obviously, our Army is still afraid of guns!
With all due respect, our Honorable Secretary of War needs to put up or shut up!
/John

Trump Asked to Remember Pledge about Military Base Victim Disarmament Policies

So here is the short answer. The left destroys everything it touches. Speaking as a Vietnam combat vet who stuck around and suffered through the rebuilding of our armed forces in the early 1980’s I can tell you it is a long process, in many ways a generational process and real warriors usually don’t survive the zero defects environment imposed by leftist, losing administrations. Rock painters and sand rakers get promoted, warriors are too scary to be trusted with command. Troops participate in dog and pony shows and not real interactive, risky training in order to avoid ‘unpleasant’ incidents. As… Read more »
“Americans deserve to hear honest answers to these questions.”
You & I both know that won’t happen. Not now, not in the future, not ever.
I understand the reasoning behind this colossal cluster-F, but vehemently disagree as any red-blooded American ought to. Let me walk you through it: When people join the military, they’re being trained to KILL THE ENEMY. They are NOT trained in law enforcement TTP’s (that’s tactics, techniques & procedures for all you civilian types). In spite of the Posse Comitatus Act, there are situations where military units are deployed domestically to assist police. This exception creates a hazard for the troops when they’re put on the street, instead of behind desks fulfilling a support role.. We learned that if you put armed… Read more »
When I first heard about the NG shooting, I KNEW what had happened. Two NG’s were shot, THEN the perp was shot by a third NG. Before even hearing the story a week later, I KNEW that the 3rd NG had to DUCK for cover, DIG for his ammo/mag, LOAD his weapon, and THEN return fire.
God forbid that our NG, while in harms way, while peace keeping or crime fighting, have a loaded weapon to defend themselves! <sarc
A shot troop is a hero.
A person shot unintentional or accidentally or wrongly is a real PITA to management.
You can thank Bill and Hillary Rodman for this. They got this ball rolling. And they better check the fleet in Pearl Harbor real close. Ms. Rodman and Honolulu liberals stripped them down years ago.
Since they are operating in an urban scenario and the hanky stompers don’t want them armed with loaded M-16s, arm the troops with loaded shotguns and sidearms. Set them up with a mix of buckshot and slugs for the shotguns. They are out there confronting armed criminals, so if they are not properly armed your putting them out there to die as the young soldier did last week. Enough, if the local thugs or terrorists want to throwdown make sure our soldiers and law officers are properly equipped for the situation.
There is very little firearm training in the Military. The safest gun is no gun or an unloaded gun. When I was in Iraq as a retired Federal Special Agent I had to carry an unloaded pistol. I asked many times when will there be training to draw and load a magazine. I was told many excuses why not. The same when we were allowed to have a magazine but no chambered round. I asked when will there be training to draw, rack the slide. No time for training. I then asked is that because there is no training for… Read more »
Why? Because everyone except maybe five people in our entire government are either anti-2A, do not understand the oath they took, or both. All of them.
