Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Department of Justice is proposing to amend the regulations of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, clarifying that bump stocks fall within the definition of “machinegun” under federal law, as such devices allow a shooter of a semiautomatic firearm to initiate a continuous firing cycle with a single pull of the trigger.
In making the announcement, Attorney General Sessions made the following statement:
“Since the day he took office, President Trump has had no higher priority than the safety of each and every American,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “That is why today the Department of Justice is publishing for public comment a proposed rulemaking that would define ‘machinegun’ to include bump stock-type devices under federal law—effectively banning them.
After the senseless attack in Las Vegas, this proposed rule is a critical step in our effort to reduce the threat of gun violence that is in keeping with the Constitution and the laws passed by Congress. I look forward to working with the President’s School Safety Commission to identify other ways to keep our country and our children safe, and I thank the President for his courageous leadership on this issue.”
On February 20, 2018, the President issued a memorandum instructing the Attorney General “to dedicate all available resources to… propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns.”
This NPRM is in response to that direction, and would make clear that the term “machinegun” as used in the National Firearms Act (NFA), as amended, and Gun Control Act (GCA), as amended, includes all bump-stock-type devices that harness recoil energy to facilitate the continuous operation of a semiautomatic long gun after a single pull of the trigger. If the NPRM is made final, bump-stock-type devices would be effectively banned under federal law and current possessors of bump-stock-type devices would be required to surrender, destroy, or otherwise render the devices permanently inoperable.
The comment period for the NPRM is 90 days from the date of publication in the Federal Register.

@Mike: The original device was a shoelace and when the individual was charged with a felony, by ATF, and taken into Federal Court, the judge asked him to explain how his “device” worked. He did and the judge not only dismissed the case but laughed ATF out of court along with the prosecutor. That’s when ATF had to first revise their definition.
That IS NOT the same as the Accelorator which operates differently and is currently illegal.
So whats next after the ban on bump stocks? Belt loops? Isn’t that what inspired the design of the bump stock?
Come on Trump and Sessions!!! You know this law is unconstitutional!! Leave our rights alone!!
An unconstitutional law is not a law. When Tyranny becomes law, resistance becomes Duty. Tyrant Season is about to Open year round no limit !!!!!!
How many We The People will be KILLED by the BATFE in the name of legal confiscation of a once Legal firearm accessory. Just like the MK-Ultra group at Waco. The One World Order Alien (Deep State) folks are chipping away at our Rights and Trump & Sessions is helping them. The U.S. Constitution states that a citizen cannot be deprived of property without due process and or appropriate compensation.
Author of this piece is wrong. Call it what it is. Confiscation and a 90 day grace period to turn in a gun accessory to the government is not a ban!
Like Vanns said be sure and comment to the ATF when the they make it available. There are a lot of good comments here and they need to be heard by “the powers to be”.
It’s time for law abiding citizens to stop whining and start standing up for our rights. Talk is not going to do it any longer. We need action. We need a leader to spearhead a movement and we need to remember that the 2nd amendment was written to provide for a citizen Militia to overthrow the government if necessary. So, you may have to fight in other ways for your rights. Are you willing to do that? Because the government is not listening the the people that elected them.
The comment period is VERY important. Please register your comments, be polite, tell them they are violating the law and you will never vote for an administration that so clearly ignores the Second Amendment and the Constitution. If tens of thousands register comments we can force them to back off. Now is NOT the time to sit back and just scream on Ammoland.
They ain’t done anything to ILLEGAL immigrants but are passing this on law abiding American citizens. The fix is in and the agenda is still on
