Fairfax, VA –-(Ammoland.com)-  The June 2014 issue of Shooting Illustrated, on newsstands now, features Remington’s new semi-automatic pistol built around a century-old design.

The result is an all-new handgun crafted for concealed carry. While the delayed-blowback mode of operation dates to a Pedersen design from the end of World War I, the R51 is a thoroughly modern offering. See how it performs in Richard Mann’s hands as he puts it through numerous torture tests.

If home-defense considerations are what you’re after, we have a look at the FNH-USA P-12 pump-action shotgun. Based on the robust Winchester Super X Pump, the P-12 is a no-nonsense design that couples high functionality with useful upgrades, including some you might not expect in an entry-level home defensive arm—like a barrel threaded for choke tubes.

It’s not in the shotgun portion of 3-gun shooting where our Handbook will help—it’s the rifle stages. Five tactical riflescopes optimized for the sport are reviewed, along with a handy guide for determining the best scope for your 3-gun needs. Recent developments, things to look for and more are discussed in this in-depth guide to scopes. If you’ve been thinking about starting out on the 3-gun circuit, or are considering an upgrade to your optic, this is a must-read.

The gas tube of the AR-15 rifle is often misunderstood, so Rifle Editor Steve Adelmann explains the function, types and common failures and fixes of this integral component. The carbine, mid-length and rifle-length systems are compared and contrasted, a little bit of the science behind the system is explained and some fixes and tweaks that can help your rifle function to its fullest potential are shared. Help get the most out of your favorite sporting rifle by learning about this critical part.

I ‘ve had an R51 for 3 months now. I have shot 115gr FMJ Blazer Steel, Blazer Brass, 124gr HP Geco (awesome ammo), 135gr +P Hornady Critical Duty and I have had only 1 FTE in almost 500 rounds; it was the last round in the magazine, might have been a limp wrist issue. I had two FTL after the first round fired, that was my error, I put the slide stop lock in wrong, so it was locking back after one round was fired; fixed it and no issues. It is extremely accurate (very impressed) and was way easier… Read more »

After almost three mos., I finally got a refund from Remington. They say production halted, no fix’s approved yet.

I bought a R51 before I had read any negative comments. The slide is a little clunky to rack, but other than that I like it. I haven’t had any of the problems I’ve been seeing in the reviews. Maybe I got a random good one, I don’t know, but I can see myself using it as a carry gun.

I bought one of these it would not cycle stove pipe firing pin would come out when the slide would go forward and you would have to re rack it its UNSAFE

I carry the R51 every day. I had a lot of trouble for the first 250 rounds. I haven’t had a problem since. 400 rounds later. I like it… Ya just gotta make sure you break it in.

The Remington R51 is a loser from everything that I have read. Unfortunately, this issue will give it a raving review and people will waste their money on a gun that has had production halted for a redesign.

Initial reports on the R51 in the forums have been disappointing. I’m going to wait on this one.
