Professor: “How Can I Say I Don’t Want to Support Students Who Are Gun Enthusiasts…”

Fairfax, VA -(AmmoLand.com)- More evidence that America’s institutions of higher education have given up any pretense of providing a bastion for the free exchange of ideas came this week in the form of a commentary published in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

The piece, authored by an anonymous college professor, explains the author’s reluctance to write a recommendation for a former student after promising to do so. The student’s sin? She exercises her Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

It’s no secret that the faculty at America’s colleges and universities have an overarching political bent. Newspapers and online resources are replete with accounts of students facing ridicule or worse for sharing conflicting political opinions; and some researchers have done testing and surveying to expose the biases in academia. While sizable portions of the U.S. population ranging across the political spectrum enjoy firearm ownership and respect our Second Amendment rights, the left-wing orthodoxy prevalent at many schools is decidedly anti-gun. However, even in this hostile environment, the piece in the Chronicle stands out as particularly bigoted.

In a practice that has become cliché, the author starts the piece by explaining that she grew up in a house with firearms; which, of course, grants her the authority to pass judgement on all of America’s 100 million gun owners.

The professor then introduces us to her gun-owning student, making sure to politely denigrate her academic prowess, writing, “Her academic abilities were not strong but she had great energy and was a class leader. Definitely a process, and not a content, type of gal.”

This is followed by a similarly condescending portrayal of the largely pro-gun community surrounding the school.

The author goes on to explain that at some point in the last year the student asked her for a recommendation for the student’s application to a teacher-credential program. The professor agreed to write the recommendation, but following a high-profile shooting and recalling the student’s gun ownership, she is having second thoughts.

To justify her intolerance of the student’s choice to exercise her rights, the author projects her own father’s struggles with mental illness onto the student. The piece cites no evidence of erratic behavior or a propensity for violence on the part of the student. The professor only learned that the student enjoyed firearms after the student shared and account of a range trip with her class, and when the professor overheard the student telling a classmate about acquiring a Right-to-Carry permit.

Despite this, the author writes, “I don’t know if the student understands emotions, or what rage feels like. It seems to me no person who has truly experienced the full impact of their own emotions would ever go near a gun.”

Later on, the professor is more frank, finally admitting, “How can I say I don’t want to support students who are gun enthusiasts without getting put on some sort of list?”

This episode comes on the heels of other high-profile instances of anti-gun college faculty revealing the severe extent of their bias. In a 2015 Newsweek piece titled “Will Guns on Campus Lead to Grade Inflation,”

Texas Woman’s University Professor of Sociology Jessica Smart Gullion declared her opposition to the Right-to-Carry on campus by posing to readers, “Will we soon see a new sort of grade inflation, with students earning a 4.0 GPA with their firepower rather than brainpower?”

More recently, University of North Dakota Professor Heidi Czerwiec penned a letter to the Grand Forks Herald regarding her intention to call 911 every time the ROTC program drills with firearms on campus. Czerwiec contended that the ROTC program’s use of firearms during on campus exercises was “highly inappropriate” and “irresponsible.”

As ridiculous as these instances are, it is safe to say the author of the Chronicle item broke fresh ground in academic intolerance of gun owners and gun rights supporters by openly admitting that she allows her prejudices to govern academic decisions.

While this screed will certainly live in infamy, we have no doubt that another narrow-minded professor will eventually come along to set a new low.

As a so called public school if you deny or attempt to deny any student of their constitutional rights you should be denied any tax dollars paid by the parents of these students!!

High school teachers are not much better. Taught in a public school for 35 years. My best friend, and fellow shooter and hunter, were viewed as “nuts”. BUT… when there were bad students or fights who did they look to for help? You know the answer. Anti-gunners are for the most part hypocrites. Ready to mouth their opinions until the going gets tough. Then, their speed of retreat is the only thing faster than their mouths.

Another example of the nearly daily proven adage: Those that can’t do – teach. Weak, worthless, and in this case dishonest sc*mbag humans so clueless about what real life is all about that they penalize and discriminate in grading against those they disagree with. I really wonder if the assessment of the girl’s academic prowess is solely based on her pro-gun stance. Totally legal behavior I might add.

This professor is discriminating based on social biases. I demand that she be fired immediately!

The professor should quit . If you can not even openly debate a subject you don’t belong teaching . Next go read the Constitution and it’s origin and the perverse socialism, fascism , sharecropping we have today..
13 years education a lifetime of property tax , the sharecropping of your property for local government.

Sometimes we do not see the forest for the trees …when people of gender or minorities are not hired at colleges we see public outrage that there is “discrimination ” …but more subtle ( perhaps ) has been the purposeful discrimination against anyone who is not “left wing” ( and especially anti 2d Amendment ) on most of the “institutions of higher learning ” .. The prejudice is so patently obvious that it seems to be overlooked as a rational part of the system …that all “Professors ” are left wing ..yet ignores the reason …intentional discrimination against non believers… Read more »

Czerwiec threatens to call 911 every time the ROTC drills with firearms. Many high schools, colleges and universities use an ROTC color guard to raise and lower the American flag every day. Some even play “To the Color” and “Retreat” while they’re at it. She’s obviously unhinged and should not be allowed to interact with students.

Cowardly Professor…When are these institutions of “higher education” going to actually teach higher education! Today only a few colleges and U’s do a fair job. Others, should be closed down, professors of hate jailed and those higher up in the regime should also be imprisoned for allowing hate to spew into young minds.

No wonder this “professor” chose to not identify herself by name. If she ever is publicly identified, she deserves to be terminated, tenure or no, for this violation of this student’s First Amendment rights. How DARE this individual behave in such a Nazified manner and still be able to hold on to her job. I wonder how many OTHER students have been victimized in a similar manner by this dictatorial witch–or how many MORE will be similarly mistreated by this individual. Identify and FIRE this petty little dictator NOW.

Being open minded and tolerant only applies to the liberal mind set, you have the right to agree with them. Otherwise you are a ignorant, stupid, homophobe and racist. If you are a minority and disagree with them you are a traitor, ignorant and stupid.

oldshooter

Let’s all HOPE Ms. (or is it, God forbid – DR.) Czerwiec actually follows through with her ignorant rhetoric and DOES call 911 when she sees the ROTC drilling on campus. The police will then be able to hold her accountable for her stupidity by charging her with misuse of the 911 system, and she will have to pay an actual price for her behavior (there is no price for mere statements, under the 1st Amendment, of course). And they ought to do it every time she acts that way, every single time, until she learns what the 911 system… Read more »

It seems to me that this professor needs to have a psych evaluation to address her inability to separate teaching from her personal bias. These students have paid dearly to attend these so-called “institutions of higher learning” and don’t deserve to be put down for or limited job opportunities because some insecure LIBERAL professor doesn’t like someone embracing their Constitutional rights.

Vanns40

My Dad had some really good advice for me, way back when; if you’re going to say something have the guts to own it.

This professor, by authoring an article anonymously, has shown not only that she is a coward but also that she lacks the courage of her convictions.

Kenneth Waggoner

I am so glad my college is pro-gun, we even have a indoor gun range.

Matt in Oklahoma

They can say things which is covered under the 1st but they being educated and all should look up “infringe” for the 2nd. Why do we keep calling this “higher” education?

munchie

No, the first amendment does not apply either, when it’s something they do not want to hear.

I love the part where teacher states she is emotional unable to control her, “…rage…”. Therfore, no one has the emotional control to control rage. Heck, I’m 59 years old and felt rage many times at the savagery done to people across this worid. Yet, never went ‘postal’ and I have safe filled with firearm.

Only, good part she understand she is emotional unstable, and stays away from firearms. In academic terms, we say she is has a iow ’emotional IQ’…as do many liberals, they can’t control their angry. Hence, making them dangerous people.
