Disaster on the Gulf Coast:

As was the case when Hurricane Katrina swept over New Orleans in 2005, serpentine Hurricane Harvey has become a major catastrophe for the area, and the country.

As was the case in 2005, we are now seeing looting. In addition, gangs of armed robbers are preying on isolated homes, businesses, even rescue workers, because robbers know that calling for police assistance is impossible in many areas. Even when police can be notified, response will be slow, or police will be unable to respond at all!

Authorities right now are mostly occupied with rescues. Affected area is vast, and resources are spread thin!

Thus, in many areas of the Gulf Coast, people trying to live through it in their homes and businesses are utterly “on their own,” and will be for some time.

Accordingly, many citizens will be compelled to handle multiple “security emergencies,” entirely by themselves. Opportunity to “get prepared” is long past. You’re either prepared, or you’re not!

“Nature is altogether indifferent as to whether, to man, her system is understandable or not” ~ Galileo

Stay armed, stay safe and stay dangerous.

I had stopped reading John Farnum’s blather quite some time ago, because he provides virtually zero information that is useful. What he is good at doing, providing condescending in manatees that help no one!

The quotes are the only thing worthwhile in his so-called articles

Lou

I have a friend/neighbor who tells me that he doesn’t think that it’s a good idea for him to have a gun in his house. He’s not really against guns. When he was a kid, there were a couple of guns at home. He just feels that at this time in his life, he wouldn’t feel comfortable having a gun around. I said to him, “Golf Club, or Baseball Bat”? He looked at me quizzically, smiled, and replied, “Golf Club, next to my bed”. I noticed a moment of doubt in his eyes. He asked if I thought we live… Read more »

The fact of the matter is that we are all on our own. This fact does not disregard the kindness of strangers (i.e., Cajun Navy-types) or the best intentions/biggest ideas of government. Storms like Harvey prove the limits of all kinds of outside help, and define the limits to which we must go to provide for and protect ourselves.

Wild Bill

@Dubi Prather, I agree that ultimately we are on our own. Storms like Harvey also show how fast, hard, and completely disaster can overtake us. If and when it does, having a little something put away can mean the difference between making it and not making it. Even if one lives in an apartment, having a few extra canned goods can help.
We bugged out years ago. We bought, built, and retired to where we would bug out if we ever needed to bug out.

OK, let’s be honest here, but how many of you thought Ammolnad was going a little soft-porn on us?

So, ya’ think a ‘single barrel shotgun’ would not have gotten our attention to this story…;)

What a loon! Snowflake morons sure do confirm their stupidity when they post. Super Dud strikes again!

One good thing is that this disaster occurred in the great state of Texas where you can be armed and open carry rifles. If something similar happened in Commiefornia there would be looting on a scale unimagined as a great majority of people would be absolutely helpless.

And when (not if) the Great Earthquake severs Kalifornia along the San Andreas Fault, that “unimaginable” scale of social breakdown WILL occur, becoming “imaginable” reality at a rapid pace.

I, for one, will regret – but will shed no tears for – the Liberal “low-information” voters’ plight (they brought on the social rioting, all by themselves, and thus deserve the consequences). My tears are reserved for the innocent and vulnerable children…

‘Stay dangerous’? How about ‘stay prepared’? That sounds a lot more defensible in court than ‘stay dangerous’.

Wild Bill

@"MCCLOUD!", Once again you have put your keen mind to the task of reinventing… political correctness.

Dave in Fairfax

“defensible in court”? How about, shotgun rounds aren’t traceable, and turtles need to eat too.

BJI

My guess is that primer marks can be matched to your shotgun so make sure the empty shells are GONE FOREVER and you clean the gun after the varmint shooting!!!

Old 1811

BJI and Dave:
Your plan to dump the shells and the body are the surest way to turn a lawful self-defense shooting into a murder.
What do you plan to do about the witnesses who were attracted by the sound of gunfire? They may not have seen the shooting, but they probably saw the aftermath, i.e., you disposing of evidence.
You really should base your self-defense plans on reality, not keyboard-commando fantasies.
