2nd Amendment Foundation Says ‘Gun Control Hysteria’ Reason for March NICS Spike

BELLEVUE, WA – A record number of background checks initiated with the National Instant Check System (NICS) for the month of March demonstrates once again that gun control hysteria pushes more Americans to exercise their right to own firearms, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

According to raw data from the FBI, last month saw a record 2,767,699 background checks initiated with the system, which is up 334,607 over the number of checks for March 2017, and up 244,434 NICS initiations in March 2016. While the raw data shows the number of NICS checks initiated, the FBI notes in its monthly reports, it does not reflect the actual number of firearms sold for that time period.

But SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said the spike is significant because of the anti-gun emotional tidal wave following the tragic incident at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February that was quickly exploited by the gun prohibition lobby.

“There is only one reason gun sales may have hit a new record high last month,” Gottlieb said, “and that’s the attack on Second Amendment rights that has reached a fever pitch. Even before the victims were identified, the anti-gun lobby was hard at work demonizing gun rights and young adult firearm owners at a level we’ve never witnessed before.”

He noted that this is hardly a new phenomenon, and that gun control extremists apparently haven’t figured out that with each new alarmist campaign, they compel more Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

“The question now is whether student David Hogg and his gun ban buddies in the media finally learn that calls for more new gun control laws only increase gun sales,” Gottlieb wondered. “When you blame people for crimes they didn’t commit and attack their rights, they will defend those rights by exercising them.”

As we discuss the Second Amendment we must remember and articulate in our arguments, that it is an enumerated Constitutionally protected right. No government gave us this Right. It is an inherent Right of Natural law, given to us by God [Providence], and developed through over 800 years of English Common Law experience. All of the enumerated Rights in the Bill of Rights are intended to constrain and prevent the gathering of power by the Federal and State governments that compose the Republic. The Founders understood through their education and experience that the collection of such power would be a… Read more »

Author and SAF/NSSF/NRA supported Fix NICS, not to mention ERPOs and this silly bump stock ban. (https://tinyurl.com/y9t7owzc https://tinyurl.com/y7alcgan https://tinyurl.com/y7fgdu6c )
Shouldn’t be that way. They’re more responsible for the spike in NICS checks because the goalie has benched itself, advocating for the other team to score!

Of course hysteria is the reason for the dramatic increase in NICS checks; which should prove to the anti-gun crowd that pro-gunners aren’t about to give up their firearms, and they’re buying more just to offset the possibility of prohibition. No matter what happens with the current cries by the antis, supporters of the NRA and the second amendment will continue to adhere to the adage credited to Mr. Charlton Heston, “FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS”.

I got mine! I thought it was just me ? But another AR with a longer barrel became justified. I gave an Armalite MTAC 18” a new home with lots of other Foster Firearms to play with. A happy home is one with precious metals adourning it’s walls.

Not Hysteria ! BUT COMMON SENSE ! Anytime something (living) is threatened it reacts to the threat . People who truely Feel that something , no matter what is a threat ,( unless their cowardly) they will generate toward what is ( not being able to protect it’s self ) being threatened .To stand united against the threat and to protect against any harm or foul . They will gather resources to fight against a larger opponent or deadlier one . In this case the threat against the 2nd amendment (gun ban) , going up against a larger, deadlier (… Read more »

The constitutional rights we have in this country were given for a reason. Chiefly and foremost to protect against a tyrannical government. The chipping away of these rights is insidious. Each new law that restricts these rights diminishes the very freedoms that America was founded upon. The rising up and resisting needs to be by the citizen patriots to fight against the loss of our constitutional rights.
