LEWISTON, Idaho –-(Ammoland.com)- The New York City Police Department recently awarded Speer with a long-term contract for its 124-grain, 9mm Luger +P Gold Dot Duty ammunition. This five-year contract, up to $18 million, reflects the company’s industry-leading technologies and longstanding commitment to excellence in manufacturing Law Enforcement ammunition.
“We are proud to support a majority of the nation’s law enforcement agencies and we will continue to focus on providing the best ammunition to their officers each and every day,” said Speer Ammunition President Jason Vanderbrink. “We are honored to be the ammunition brand of choice for the nation’s largest agency, the New York City Police Department. Speer Gold Dot duty and training rounds have a 20-year history supporting more than 35,000 NYPD officers who protect and serve their communities.”
“Speer is the world leader in law enforcement and military ammunition,” continued Vanderbrink. “It is the company’s heritage and foundation. Our unwavering support for the brave men and women who keep us safe is not subject to political rhetoric or winning a contract. We are proud to stand with our law enforcement agencies through thick and thin.”
Gold Dot was the first handgun ammunition loaded with true, bonded-core bullets. Speer’s exclusive Uni-Cor construction process bonds the jacket to the alloyed lead core one atom at a time. This process virtually eliminates core-jacket separation while guaranteeing uniform jacket thickness for superior accuracy.
Each Gold Dot hollow-point cavity is tuned by caliber and bullet weight to ensure optimum expansion and penetration. Additional Gold Dot features include ultra-reliable CCI primers, plus high-powered, clean-burning propellants and nickel-plated brass cases for smooth function and extreme durability.

For what it’s worth, the 9mm defensive ammo ballistics tests I’ve seen (such as those on Lucky Gunner) have shown Federal HST 124gr +P to be arguably the best performing round available as well as reliably expanding. It’s also very reasonably priced (around 35¢/Rd at targetsports) for a top notch defensive round and I will continue to purchase those.
I think it’s awesome that we live in a country that allows us to voice our opinion through our pocket books. But I have to ask… NY is a big state. I’m sure there are agencies with contracts with Hornady, Federal, Winchester, etc. Do you plan on boycotting all of those?
Speer lost my business. Thats why i choose Hornady Ammo plus its better. The firearms Industry better start standing up. The 2A community is watching. If your not standing up for our rights you will not get our business. You will be ran out of the business. Their Officers should be made to carry what they allow the public to buy. After all that’s the only threat they should be facing right. Everything else is banned.
Considering that I haven’t purchased a single round of centerfire ammo. rifle or pistol, in the last 38 years this won’t affect me much. And it won’t stop me from using Speer components either. While I think that companies owned privately that withhold their products is great, publicly held firms have a duty to make money for their stockholders. Are you also going to get bent out of shape with the supplier of the FBI? We all get to decide which windmills we are going to “tilt at” and that is a good thing.
The best way to send a message is via the $$$$. I’ve stopped doing business with Dicks, Field and Stream, and Bank of America. Have I missed anyone? Add Speer to the list and keep’m coming folks. There’s plenty of options out there in this great country of ours.
And one more thing Clark Kent……
Police State Police…….police that that take AN OATH with no intent to understand what it says OR no intent to abide by the oath in the first place and no intent of honoring such oath………what do you call that?
Respectfully……how could you possibly call yourself an oathkeeper while working in a state that requires you to SPECIFICALLY VIOLATE THE OATH YOU TAKE??? And when you violate that oath the first, the fiftieth and 500th time what do you tell yourself???
What should us common cannon fodder believe?
Spear steadfast for the second amendment?……..spare me.
