LEWISTON, Idaho-(Ammoland.com)- The New York City Police Department recently awarded Speer with a long-term contract for its 124-grain, 9mm Luger +P Gold Dot Duty ammunition. This five-year contract, up to $18 million, reflects the company’s industry-leading technologies and longstanding commitment to excellence in manufacturing Law Enforcement ammunition.

“We are proud to support a majority of the nation’s law enforcement agencies and we will continue to focus on providing the best ammunition to their officers each and every day,” said Speer Ammunition President Jason Vanderbrink. “We are honored to be the ammunition brand of choice for the nation’s largest agency, the New York City Police Department. Speer Gold Dot duty and training rounds have a 20-year history supporting more than 35,000 NYPD officers who protect and serve their communities.”

“Speer is the world leader in law enforcement and military ammunition,” continued Vanderbrink. “It is the company’s heritage and foundation. Our unwavering support for the brave men and women who keep us safe is not subject to political rhetoric or winning a contract. We are proud to stand with our law enforcement agencies through thick and thin.”

Gold Dot was the first handgun ammunition loaded with true, bonded-core bullets. Speer’s exclusive Uni-Cor construction process bonds the jacket to the alloyed lead core one atom at a time. This process virtually eliminates core-jacket separation while guaranteeing uniform jacket thickness for superior accuracy.

Each Gold Dot hollow-point cavity is tuned by caliber and bullet weight to ensure optimum expansion and penetration. Additional Gold Dot features include ultra-reliable CCI primers, plus high-powered, clean-burning propellants and nickel-plated brass cases for smooth function and extreme durability.

Headquartered in Lewiston, Idaho, Speer has a long-standing reputation for making the world’s finest bullets and in 1996 became one of the first U.S. ammunition manufacturers to achieve ISO 9001 certification for quality. The company manufactures a variety of bullets and cartridges for law enforcement, reloading and sporting applications.

For what it’s worth, the 9mm defensive ammo ballistics tests I’ve seen (such as those on Lucky Gunner) have shown Federal HST 124gr +P to be arguably the best performing round available as well as reliably expanding. It’s also very reasonably priced (around 35¢/Rd at targetsports) for a top notch defensive round and I will continue to purchase those.

Roy D.

And Federal and Speer are part of the same corporation. Now what are you going to do?

SSgt JDH

I’ve used the Fed HST 124gr +P in real world situations down range and they perform as advertised. Since retired, I carry the same round in my everyday carry 19X and G17. Semper Fi.

I think it’s awesome that we live in a country that allows us to voice our opinion through our pocket books. But I have to ask… NY is a big state. I’m sure there are agencies with contracts with Hornady, Federal, Winchester, etc. Do you plan on boycotting all of those?

GARRY

Speer lost my business. Thats why i choose Hornady Ammo plus its better. The firearms Industry better start standing up. The 2A community is watching. If your not standing up for our rights you will not get our business. You will be ran out of the business. Their Officers should be made to carry what they allow the public to buy. After all that’s the only threat they should be facing right. Everything else is banned.

Roy D.

Considering that I haven’t purchased a single round of centerfire ammo. rifle or pistol, in the last 38 years this won’t affect me much. And it won’t stop me from using Speer components either. While I think that companies owned privately that withhold their products is great, publicly held firms have a duty to make money for their stockholders. Are you also going to get bent out of shape with the supplier of the FBI? We all get to decide which windmills we are going to “tilt at” and that is a good thing.

The best way to send a message is via the $$$$. I’ve stopped doing business with Dicks, Field and Stream, and Bank of America. Have I missed anyone? Add Speer to the list and keep’m coming folks. There’s plenty of options out there in this great country of ours.

BillyBob Texas

Yeah, you missed one. Target. Unless you want some scumbag pervert going into your 9 yr old daughter’s bathroom or the fitting room…..I haven’t darkened their door in 5 years.
Brand new Dicks and Field and Stream here in my neighborhood. Would love to go in and look around….NOPE. My shadow doesn’t go to their doorstep either.

John Galt

And one more thing Clark Kent……

Police State Police…….police that that take AN OATH with no intent to understand what it says OR no intent to abide by the oath in the first place and no intent of honoring such oath………what do you call that?

Respectfully……how could you possibly call yourself an oathkeeper while working in a state that requires you to SPECIFICALLY VIOLATE THE OATH YOU TAKE??? And when you violate that oath the first, the fiftieth and 500th time what do you tell yourself???

What should us common cannon fodder believe?

Spear steadfast for the second amendment?……..spare me.

John Galt

Hey clark kent… YES…..Police State Police. These are the assholes from one of the states that says they will take our guns. These states need to be CUT OFF. No police agency should be able to have any weapon you can not own and everything that goes with it. States and agencies also get waayyy better prices than us plebs……and we subsidize them ( on top of supplying them out of our tax plunder). Speer should be beholding to the common citizen, not the police state. They can GO TO HELL. If they are honorable, constitution abiding police THEY CAN… Read more »

Spooky

If ya really wont to do something other rant, get in touch with Speer by e-mail or phone. It’s exactly what I did, because at this point I have absolutely NO USE for them. I will line the barrels of my pistols with the copper of a different ammunition company. Screw them!

ROBERT TULLER

“SPEER`S RESPONSE”
Robert, thank you for your inquiry. Like you, we support the Second Amendment and are committed to our shooting sports user communities. One of these communities is our first responders. Speer is the world leader in law enforcement and military ammunition. It is the company’s heritage and foundation. While there are many political conversations taking place in our states and our nation, our unwavering support for these brave men and women is not subject to political rhetoric. We are proud to stand with our law enforcement agencies and provide them with the products that keep us safe.

Wild Bill

@Robert Tuller, Thank you for your response. I know that your time is valuable. Where do you stand when the states pass unconstitutional statutes and the heads of these law enforcement agencies give orders to violate the civil rights of citizens, and the those men and women act to carry out those orders? Do you think that because Speer is a supplier to anti-Second Amendment Civil Rights states, those states will show Speer any mercy?
You need not answer, Mr Tuller, but you better look at the situation through a Civil Rights lens rather than a business lens.

GARRY

Supporting a first responders in a city where the citizens cannot purchase the very same Ammo. Is not Supporting the Second Amendment. You just lost 100 times the profit of this contract by signing it. Vista outdoors restructuring isn’t working very well if this is the direction your heading. You’ll be out of business in a year. Glad I don’t own your stock.

Laddyboy

@garry, I am not trying to argue or belittle you. However, you have been duped, as many across America have been duped, by the rhetoric of the DemocRATic communist/muslem party.
The “first responders” ARE the people AT THE SITE of whatever is happening, while it is happening.
The Police, Firemen, Emergency personnel are the “SECOND RESPONDERS”.

Lawrence Thibault

I never knew that speer was owned and run by liberals that want to disarm us.

Scott Boura

Say it ain’t so. One again the short term mighty dollar outweighs the long term.

BillyBob Texas

I (and probably others on here…..) didn’t know about the politics involved by NY. Thanks for the heads up – and BUH-BYE to Speer and their Gold Dots that I have used for years…!!

Laddyboy

Sell your ammo to an ANTI-CONSTITUTIONALIST city like ‘new york’. When you stop supplying this anti-American city, I will again purchase your ammunition. Till then, STARVE!!!!!!!!

James Kit Cooper

You can count me out of all business with you! Great ammo but politics are important. I will never buy your product again.

BillyBob Texas

Just wondering how many they are buying for the 35,000 cops for 5 years. Assuming ALL of the 35,000 trained every year – (DOUBT THAT ) I’d bet a lot of rounds that the readers on this blog probably outshoot (quantity, and therefore quality, too…) those 35,000 by about 10 to one.

HankB

I don’t view companies that sell to rabidly anti-gun state and local governments as supporting my 2nd Amendment rights, and I endeavor NOT to buy their products myself.

Vanns40

I totally agree. I have carried Gold Dot for more years than I can begin to imagine, no more. When firearms and ammo companies decide to stop doing business with anti-gun States those States will take notice, until then it’s business as usual.

Greg Newman

Guess Speer lost any of my business, That is why Hornady told them to kiss it. NY is one of the biggest hypocrites to guns & ammo rights.

Brian

Great. Speer is off my list now. Selling ammo in non-free states. Supporting governments that oppose the 2nd amendment. No big loss – Federal HST and Rem Golder Saber test better anyway.

SSgt

Yes, exactly right. Remington Golden Saber is fantastic ammo right up there with HST. Have no experience with the GS down range but in living tissue, GS performance is 100%. SF

hippybimer

F@ck Speer! Bravo for Hornaday!!

John Galt

If speer was a supporter of the second amendment they would cut off new york like Barnes and Barrett.

I will not consciously do business with companies that supply kalifornia, new york, mass, ct police that will use their products to confiscate citizen guns.

If speer wants my business they should STOP DOING BUSINESS WITH TOTALITARIAN STATES!

We should insist that companies we do business with are on our side and not sacrificing the public for police state police

Clark Kent

You would not know a TRUE ‘totalitarian state’ if it bit you in your fat azz. Grow up. P.S. ‘Police state police’? What a crock of BS; how old are you, twelve?

Barry Allen

Spare us, Supes. We’ve all seen the tyrant you are in Injustice.

ROBERT TULLER

The only reason they got the contract is because Hornady refused to sell there ammo to them because they banned ammo from sales to the general public. Way to go Speer! that’s sticking up for us law abiding citizens!!!!
