U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- The House members were called to Springfield Sunday evening and early Monday morning a committee passed SB1966, the bill which raises the cost of the FOID card to nearly $100 for 5 years ($20 FOID fee + $30 fingerprint fee + $38 FBI background check fee) instead of $10 for 10 years. Fingerprinting of law abiding citizens is still mandated, and private firearm sales are banned. The bill now goes to the House floor for a vote at anytime.
This bill also seeks to undo what our friend Otis McDonald fought so hard for in Chicago with McDonald vs Chicago. The bill will keep many law-abiding people in the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods from being able to legally purchase a firearm. The following statement is from our friends at the 761st Gun Club of Illinois:
“SB1966 could be called for a vote today in the House. We know that there are a few members of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus not feeling this bill as this WILL cause a disadvantage for the Black community. Give them a call today at their Springfield office to inform them to vote NO for this bill. If you are a member of this club you know the history of the FOID card. Educate them. Flood the phones today and tell them to vote No!”
Representative Willis may not even be aware that her “Fix the FOID” bill, SB1966, will end firearm purchases for IL Medical Marijuana card holders. MM users can only purchase firearms through private transfers due to federal law. Once private transfers are banned, so is the right to legally purchase firearms by MM card holders. The same will be true for recreational marijuana users if the recreational use bill passes.
RIGHT NOW!
Call your State Representative, express your opposition to SB1996 in any form. Explain that the process used to push this though is a slap in the face of open government, and a slap in the face of all Illinois residents. Calls should be made to the Springfield offices.

How quaint, Democrats making people pay for the privilege of exercising a Constitutional Right.
As with many comments on such subjects, those who advocate using the power of the vote are quite sorrect but tend to miss one very important point. That being: In order to truly make meaningful changes, the most important time to vote is not necessarily in the general election but rather in the PRIMARY where the candidates who will appear on the ballot in the general portion are chosen. How many time have we heard “None of these candidates are worth voting for!”? Hmmmmm…….could that be due to voters simply allowing each respective party to pick and choose their candidates… Read more »
I’m 54 and for first time I will not be voting for the Democratic Party. I cannot vote for a party that wants to take away 2nd amendment ♂️The party has left me
These traitorous politicians only get away with it because the American people are now keyboard warriors instead of real warriors. The people must rise up against tyranny or the government boot will always be on their throats. I moved out of Illinois almost 30 years ago, when it was still a fairly red state, to a state that was mostly blue. Things have completely changed in both, politically. The state I live in now has constitutional carry, meaning a resident without a felony conviction or domestic violence charge can carry concealed most places without q special license. It is a… Read more »
I’m 74 yrs old and have been voting pro-gun in every election since I turned 21. Illinois has a population of around 12.5 million, cook county has a population of around 6 million. Cook County has been raping the rest of the state for decades. downstate has no say in Illinois government. There are 3 ways I see that things can change;( 1 The governor should be elected as the President by an electoral college type election.;(2 term limits for all politicians.;( 3 DOWNSTATE SECEDES FROM ILLINOIS. If the general assembly won’t do this it must be on the ballot… Read more »
The IL State Police and Fed database systems fell flat on their faces recently when it came to the Aurora killings. There were plenty of safeguards in place already – if competent people were involved. The additional fees and procedures proposed are bullshit. As usual, the only people affected will be the law-abiding citizens who have been following all the rules already.
At times I must laugh at these idiots who are trying to set up a major gun control. First, we all know and agree any such issue for Gun Control is unconstitutional and empowers the responsible gun owner. What the world of government people pushing for gun control forget….they are becoming responsible for creating “THE WORLDS LARGEST GUN BLACK MARKET”….right here in the US alone. It is well know in any country,,if you want a weapon of any type you go to the country’s black market and buy what ever you need. How do I know this??..I have this several… Read more »
Gee, another tax imposed from a fat rich guy who removed toilets from his one of his mansions, called his tax assessor buddy who declared the place “Uninhabitable” due to the lack of toilets, assessed the property at millions below market and reinstalled the toilets as soon as he was done.
I hope he ends up sharing a toilet with Blagoavich.
As a resident of this godforsaken state, I am now actively looking to move and take my tax dollars with me to a more friendly place. I am sick of being persecuted for lawfully exercising a Constitutional right by this state, simply because we are burdened with the cancer that is Chicago.
This state is a monumental fiscal failure, and this just guarantees that more people like myself, who pay mountains of taxes to the state already, will leave and never look back. I refuse to continue to fund a completely unrepresentative government ruled from Chicago.
Where do the get the right to charge you for a federal ncic check? Are they now paying the FBI salary? That should be an automatic federal lawsuit..$30 per hour for 5 minutes of finger printing during normal business hours? Do they charge criminals for that? Do they charge their employees that when they fingerprint them? That should be another lawsuit..
