While You Celebrated Memorial Day with Your Family – Democrats Passed SB1966

Illinois FOID Cards Top 2,000,000 Gun Owners
the bill which raises the cost of the FOID card to nearly $100 for 5 years

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- The House members were called to Springfield Sunday evening and early Monday morning a committee passed SB1966, the bill which raises the cost of the FOID card to nearly $100 for 5 years ($20 FOID fee + $30 fingerprint fee + $38 FBI background check fee) instead of $10 for 10 years. Fingerprinting of law abiding citizens is still mandated, and private firearm sales are banned. The bill now goes to the House floor for a vote at anytime.

This bill also seeks to undo what our friend Otis McDonald fought so hard for in Chicago with McDonald vs Chicago. The bill will keep many law-abiding people in the poorest and most dangerous neighborhoods from being able to legally purchase a firearm. The following statement is from our friends at the 761st Gun Club of Illinois:

“SB1966 could be called for a vote today in the House. We know that there are a few members of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus not feeling this bill as this WILL cause a disadvantage for the Black community. Give them a call today at their Springfield office to inform them to vote NO for this bill. If you are a member of this club you know the history of the FOID card. Educate them. Flood the phones today and tell them to vote No!”

Representative Willis may not even be aware that her “Fix the FOID” bill, SB1966, will end firearm purchases for IL Medical Marijuana card holders. MM users can only purchase firearms through private transfers due to federal law. Once private transfers are banned, so is the right to legally purchase firearms by MM card holders. The same will be true for recreational marijuana users if the recreational use bill passes.

RIGHT NOW!

Call your State Representative, express your opposition to SB1996 in any form. Explain that the process used to push this though is a slap in the face of open government, and a slap in the face of all Illinois residents. Calls should be made to the Springfield offices.

“House members were called to Springfield Sunday evening and early Monday morning a committee passed SB1966.”

Am I reading this correctly, was this bill passed on the sly Sunday evening into Monday morning, after hours? Were they afraid they couldn’t get it passed during the regular session and so they go about it being dishonest?

How quaint, Democrats making people pay for the privilege of exercising a Constitutional Right.

As with many comments on such subjects, those who advocate using the power of the vote are quite sorrect but tend to miss one very important point. That being: In order to truly make meaningful changes, the most important time to vote is not necessarily in the general election but rather in the PRIMARY where the candidates who will appear on the ballot in the general portion are chosen. How many time have we heard “None of these candidates are worth voting for!”? Hmmmmm…….could that be due to voters simply allowing each respective party to pick and choose their candidates… Read more »

These traitorous politicians only get away with it because the American people are now keyboard warriors instead of real warriors. The people must rise up against tyranny or the government boot will always be on their throats. I moved out of Illinois almost 30 years ago, when it was still a fairly red state, to a state that was mostly blue. Things have completely changed in both, politically. The state I live in now has constitutional carry, meaning a resident without a felony conviction or domestic violence charge can carry concealed most places without q special license. It is a… Read more »

I’m 74 yrs old and have been voting pro-gun in every election since I turned 21. Illinois has a population of around 12.5 million, cook county has a population of around 6 million. Cook County has been raping the rest of the state for decades. downstate has no say in Illinois government. There are 3 ways I see that things can change;( 1 The governor should be elected as the President by an electoral college type election.;(2 term limits for all politicians.;( 3 DOWNSTATE SECEDES FROM ILLINOIS. If the general assembly won’t do this it must be on the ballot… Read more »

The IL State Police and Fed database systems fell flat on their faces recently when it came to the Aurora killings. There were plenty of safeguards in place already – if competent people were involved. The additional fees and procedures proposed are bullshit. As usual, the only people affected will be the law-abiding citizens who have been following all the rules already.

I do believe that it is the right, and the duty of the people to ignore illegal, unconstitutional laws. It should also be the duty to charge these TRAITORS with the appropriate crimes and hold them accountable. As long as these pissants continue to do what they are doing with little or no response from WE THE PEOPLE, they will continue to push the envelope further and further. However, on the other hand, if some of their ilk was to hear that one of them was dragged out of bed at 3 am, taken outside to a waiting military tribunal,… Read more »

At times I must laugh at these idiots who are trying to set up a major gun control. First, we all know and agree any such issue for Gun Control is unconstitutional and empowers the responsible gun owner. What the world of government people pushing for gun control forget….they are becoming responsible for creating “THE WORLDS LARGEST GUN BLACK MARKET”….right here in the US alone. It is well know in any country,,if you want a weapon of any type you go to the country’s black market and buy what ever you need. How do I know this??..I have this several… Read more »

Gee, another tax imposed from a fat rich guy who removed toilets from his one of his mansions, called his tax assessor buddy who declared the place “Uninhabitable” due to the lack of toilets, assessed the property at millions below market and reinstalled the toilets as soon as he was done.
I hope he ends up sharing a toilet with Blagoavich.

As a resident of this godforsaken state, I am now actively looking to move and take my tax dollars with me to a more friendly place. I am sick of being persecuted for lawfully exercising a Constitutional right by this state, simply because we are burdened with the cancer that is Chicago.

This state is a monumental fiscal failure, and this just guarantees that more people like myself, who pay mountains of taxes to the state already, will leave and never look back. I refuse to continue to fund a completely unrepresentative government ruled from Chicago.

Born and raised in Chicago, left for Arizona in 1984 at age of 46, never missed Illinois and wish I had come here sooner. Low real estate taxes home prices reasonable and least firearms restrictive state in the country.

Where do the get the right to charge you for a federal ncic check? Are they now paying the FBI salary? That should be an automatic federal lawsuit..$30 per hour for 5 minutes of finger printing during normal business hours? Do they charge criminals for that? Do they charge their employees that when they fingerprint them? That should be another lawsuit..

Say a prayer for Mr Otis McDonald on this one. His struggle to protect the rights of God fearing, decent men who happen to be black is far from over. Jim Crow is alive and well in Illinois. Land of Lincoln?

All gun laws are race based. They are aimed at suppressing the Second Amendment rights of black people. The largest number of arrests for crimes involving firearms are people of African descent. Since the prison population is more than half African American, you can bet that a firearm owned by a felon charge will a black person. Black neighborhoods are more likely to have drugs, yet another hot ticket arrest. The only thing a democrat fears more than a black man is a black man with a gun!

what’s next will we have to pay Illinois ( extortion ) money to get a permit to exercise or 1st amendment right as well. This is unconstitutional they shouldn’t be able to tell use we have to pay them to exercise a constitutional right. We shouldn’t have to be finger printed to exercise any of or constitutional rights ether. This is a great example why are for father’s gave us the second amendment in the first place. The second amendment is what gives are constitution it’s teeth so that we may be able to protect the rest of are rights.… Read more »

The Bill passed the Illinois house about 6 hours ago. The way the bill is written “ALL” private transfers must go through an FFL at a fixed cost of $10 per transfer. This is below the cost of a transfer. Add in the fact that Illinois has a new gun dealer licensing law that allows the state to control gun sales and transfers, it is the end of the 2A in Illinois. The Finger printing cost and new FOID cost that was going to be $205 Plus under amendment one; has now been changed to around $88 plus under the… Read more »

These idiots have overstepped so far this time, that now is the time a drown them in a sea of lawsuits and have the odious FOID card declared unconstitutional once and for all. It won’t take long for someone’s rights to be violated under this new garbage (which Fat Boy Pritzker will gleefully sign), and that is all the legal standing needed to destroy the FOID once and for all.

How many gun owners and hunters voted for these mentally unstable, psychotic, meth using, democrats politicians? And this is just the beginning, next they will require a 30 or 60 day waiting period to purchase one firearm! And when filling out the forms you will have to provide the name, address, phone number (and your medical history) of your physician and psychiatrist, oops don’t have one? Sorry, you can’t purchase a gun! The power crazed politicians say this is for your own good! We are your masters and we know it all and you will obey us or go to… Read more »

The Illinois governor probably wants to be governor again. Perhaps you all should let him know that if he signs this bill it will cost him the next election. Maybe picking some replacement candidates for the next election would be helpful. GOA and SAF probably have a law suit prepared, maybe they could use some financial help.

What part of “Shall Not Be Infringed” do these idiot’s not understand? The Retards from the ghetto, known as Chicago, SHOULDN’T be making law’s for the rest of the State. How are those strictest gun law’s working for the city? 800 murders a year in “gun free zones”, from gun’s should tell all politicians their “law’s” are the problem!

Wake up people, shit like this is TREASON against the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which applies in its entirety to ALL the states. People who commit treason and war against the Constitution have no authority, cannot hold office, MUST be arrested, and be held to account.

If you’re not willing to pick up a gun and actually use it to fight tyranny, then you’re the worst sort of hypocrite and a fudd. What the hell are you waiting for???

Good luck finding a company that will provide fingerprinting services for a mandated maximum fee of only $30. No one will offer the service at that price, which means no fingerprinting, which means no FOID…for anybody. Well played, Rep Willis, well played. But too clever by half. See you in court.

How do people in their right mind continue to support and vote for the democrats? I just don’t get it. Who are these people who want the government to tax and regulate your life to death? The gun grabbers will never stop their pursuit unless they are taken out of elected office by voters. They must pay a price for their actions. This nonsense must be stopped in Illinois and within this country.

@S, I hear ya, when I got my concealed carry, the instructor was an ex-police chief, and now operates his own P.I. service, and has his own electronic finger print service registered with the state, and when you pass all the tests, he offers to take, and send your prints to the state with all your paper work, and the police has an instant record of your prints, and no additional waiting time, but his price for the prints are $65.00, but since you took his class he knocks off five bucks. I know it’s only five bucks, but for… Read more »
