New York – -(AmmoLand.com)- A new bill introduced to outlaw body armor in New York would make it illegal for civilians to purchase body armor and could find them guilty even if they have owned body armor for years.
If the bill is passed, body armor owners would be required to turn in their life-saving gear at law enforcement agencies such as local or state police, FBI, or DEA.
Failing to surrender their “body vests” within 15 days of the effective date of this new law could have severe repercussions.
What Is the Penalty?
Breaking this new law would result in a class A misdemeanor. Repeat offenders could potentially earn themselves a class E felony, and depending on their circumstances, the penalty could consist of fines, probation, and even up to 4 years in prison.

Unlike firearms, body armor often can be worn undetected. Let the authorities penalize you afterwards, when your precious life has been saved. You know exactly what to say to the policeman: “Why? My life isn’t as valuable as yours?”

I think this is a great idea. As a former NY Jewboy now a Texas American, I think getting shot repeatedly maybe the only way these chuckle heads will wake up! Who is the brainless dolt behind this? How much more INSANE can a bill be to keep ANYONE from owning or wearing body armor? I bet the sleeze ball behind this has a provision for him/her to have an exemption after all we live in a society where all the animals are equal, it’s just that some are more equal then the rest. The first responsibility of the Government is to protect the people. What better way to protect the citizenry then to allow body armor?
These are valid arguments against this proposal, but another angle of attack should come from our children…especially school-age children. Obviously, the proposal lacks funding to harden schools, so why can’t kids wear body armor and Kevlar back packs to school? And teachers, etc. for that matter? Maybe the teachers unions should be encouraged to weigh in on this passive form of self defense.
